How do you convert aiff files to aac and keep them organized in new folders

I have spent several hours trying to figure out how to convert my thousands of aiff files to aac files.  I want to keept the originals and have the new aac files created and then stored in a file system identical but separate to the one that stores the aiff files.  Will itunes do this or is there another program that will?
Thanks,
Jeremy

You can override iTunes' preferences setting to keep your music organized, but then it is off for everything you do.  If you have this preference set then iTunes keeps your music organized the way it wants to.
I suppose another way would be to use a third party converter such as Max or XLD to convert the files to AAC separately. I then believe if you drag the files to iTunes while holding down the option key (not 100% sure if that's the key combination) it will not copy them to the iTunes folder but leave them where you have them.  If you have iTunes set to organize your music and do the conversion inside of iTunes it will want to have its way.

How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what. When you have several thousand photos it is difficult to determined what is what.
Why does iPhoto have the ability to put photos in events and to give them descriptions if it doesn't transfer this info with the photo. I want to back my photos up to an external drive.

The simplest way to achieve what you want is to back up the iPhoto Library. That will get everything.
You sem to be exporting from iPhoto to the Finder. The Finder does not have the same organisation capabilities as iPhoto. If you're going to do that you need to understand some of the differences between the two.
Event Name will become  Folder Name.
'Description Name' I guess is the Title you give the Photo
Jpeg Number is the File Name assigned by your camera.
    So: File -> Export
    Set your Kind to Jpeg
    Select your preferred Quality
Check the Boxes at 'Titles and Descriptions' and Location Information
    Under FIlename select 'Use Title'
Click on Export. In the Next Window choose a New Folder as your export destination and then Name that as you prefer

The only way you can do that is to import them into your library first, but you may have done that already.
The easiest way to tell is to select a photo from the photostream album in iPhoto and ctrl-click on it, if it gives you the option to import it isn't in your iPhoto library, if it offers you the option to show in library it has already been imorted.

  • How do you convert WMV files to either .mov or mpeg4?

    Hi,
I just wanted to know how you convert WMV file to either .mov or mpeg 4. I can't seem to find any software that will do it.

  • How can you determine a file creation date and know if it's been altered since the creation date

I need to know how to determine a file creation date on an ipad.  If someone creates a document/note on an ipad how can you tell when it was created and if it has been altered since?

Unless you are using a third party app that provides that functionality, in iOS the only thing youcan access is the last edit/save date and time, which is fairly evident in the user interface for documents and notes. Some apps that handle MS Office files may provide that, but ican't say first hand.

  • How to convert AIFF files to AAC

When I import tracks from a CD they appear as AIFF files which are rather large. How do I convert them to smaller AAC format files to load onto my iPod?
My last version of iTunes had an option of what file type to import the files but this seems to have disapeared on Vs 8.2.1.

    Hello John Cellario,
You can change the import settings by going to the iTunes drop down menu and choose Preferences When the window pops up, you should be under the General tab. Towards the middle should a button labeled "Import Settings." Go ahead and click that. From there, you should be able to choose "Import Using AAC" and then whatever setting you wish to set it at underneath that.
As to the songs that are already encoded as AIFF, you should be able to control->click on them and choose the option to convert to AAC.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date

Hi everyone! does anyone know how to convert .AVI files for using in iMovie without losing the original clip time and date? Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

  • How do you convert a file from .mov to .avi in quicktime pro

I'm using a kodak Z50 digital camera that records video files as .mov files. I was told I could convert the files to .avi files using quicktime pro, but I can't figure out how to do it. Anyone know?

I am assuming you already are able to open the movie
in QT Player. Use Export in the File menu, choose
Movie to Avi in the drop-down Export Menu and then
click on Options to choose one of the pre-loaded avi
codecs for the compression. You may also want to
search for and install one of the newer codecs, such
as 3ivx or divx since the preinstalled codecs are all
    rather old.

Thanks for the help. It worked, but the quality of the video is poor. Is there anything I can do about this?

  • How do you convert managed files to referenced files?

I have exported all the files that I mistakenly saved to my aperture library.
since I've exported them by year and month I can easily incorporate them into my referenced files on various external hard drives.
but how do I now actually get the managed files in the aperture library out of the aperture library? (I am trying to make the aperture file smaller so that it can more easily stay on my laptop).
and is there a way to get rid of the managed files without having to reimport all the files and reimport all the metadata …

    As I understand it:
You had a bunch of original image files and imported them into AP using managed.
At this point the original files are totally separate from AP, since AP has copies of the originals in its library file (a package). If you relocate, AP will not put the files back where they were, especially since you have moved some files around in the database.
If you haven't done much editing to the masters, consider creating a new library and a new import. Otherwise, try relocating a small amount of your projects to see how AP sets up the folders on the disk.
But AP will not automatically write the masters back to where the originals were - the relocate process involves you indicating where the files will go. As I recall, you have to choose a folder structure from several choices and these may not parallel the originals. Plus, as I said above, since you have moved files around the database, you will definitely not get the same layout as the originals.

  • How do you convert Raw files into jpeg.

I have never shot in Raw before and I have a huge project due tomorrow. I need help Asap. What is the easiest way to convert Raw files into jpeg, can Light Room convert the files. I have tried so many different ways and nothing seems to work.

It depends on the sofware you have.  ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) hosted by Bridge or by Photoshop can convert ("open") raw files, as can Lightroom.
However, not all camera models are supported by all versions of the software.  We need to know the make and exact model of the camera that generated the raw files to advice you further.
We can also assist you with the conversion through ACR hosted by Photoshop.
Olease note that there are dedicated forums for Lightroom, for Adobe Camera Raw and for Bridge.
Here's the list of which cameras are supported by each version of ACR.  Note that later versions supporte all camera models supported in previous versions of ACR.

    Note that the latest version of ACR to run in CS4 is ACR 5.3;
    CS3 runs ACR 4.6;
    CS2 runs ACR 3.7;
    CS runs 2.4.

  • How do you convert psd files to jpg files?

Raw photos were converted to psd and then to jpg. The jpg files were imported and some got reconverted to psd files again. How can I convert them back to jpg files so that I can put them in a photo book?

the basic answer is to open them in Photoshop and save as a jpeg to the desktop and import the JPEG into iPhoto

perhaps a bit more information would allow a better answer
And remember to never go into the iPhoto library directly and never make any changes to the structure or contents of the iPhoto library

  • In Photoshop 2014 how do you use the clone stamp tool and keep the image panel from moving

I don't quite know how to use the clone stamp tool in the Photoshop 2014 version.  When I click on the clone stamp it creates a duplicate of the image and it moves around and I can not apply the clone stamp to the area I want to correct.  How do you lock it down to keep it from moving?

    Hi Smoothery4501,
The Photoshop clone stamp tool allows you to copy one area of an image and copy it onto another area.
Click on the clone stamp tool then press the alt key on the keyboard and click on the image to define a source point.

  • Converting .docx files to .eps and keeping the text editable (not outlines)?

I'm trying to batch convert a number of .docx files that each contain figures that have been created in Word (boxes, lines etc) in Acrobat 9 Pro to .eps.
I can create an .eps, using the document processing (batch processing) route, but when I open the files in Illustrator CS5 all of the editable text in the document has been converted to outlines. Ideally, I want to keep the text in the figure editable (and to create a slightly smaller file size)
I have checked the convert from PDF settings for Encapsulated PostScript and it shows 'Convert Text to Outlines' as false, the transparency settings have also been setup not to convert to outlines), can anyone help?

My thinking behind doing it via Acrobat 9 Pro was that I could take say 20 .docx files and via the document process function automatically convert them straight to .eps without having to make the PDF first. I also find using this route that I have an .eps that is already cropped to the four edges of the images (with no hidden characters making the image frame larger than the actual four edges of the figure).
When I import a PDF into Illustrator, I find that I'm getting the end of paragraph (hidden) markers from Word appearing (normally at the end of the image in Word, and some also appear before the figure where the author has hit return a few times). I then have to manually remove them so that the artboard fits to the four edges of the image. I guess I'm just trying to save a little time without having to go back into 20+ files and tidy them up by removing this character.
