How do you copy from Ipod?

I just got a new computer as my old one died. is it possible for me to copy my ipod songs onto my new computer??

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
PodPlus Software (Windows)
TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
1 - Open iTunes
2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough Backup Strategy

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How do you copy from one itouch to another

We have three itouches for the kids. the oldest two have purchased songs, games etc. separately on each device. The newest itouch had nothing on it and is brand new. I believe that every application that we want on this third device has to be paid for separately. That is, even though one of the kids has an application on his itouch if the other kid wants the same application I have to buy it all over again for that device.
Someone at work told me that this is not necessarily the case because more than one device can share an itunes account. However, I have a couple of ipods we used to use (the cheaper ones without a screen) that we used to use. But when we tried to download songs from one device to the other you had to copy the whole hard drive from one device to the other. So anything you had on your device to start with would be completely overwritten and you'd loose whatever you had on the device just to get a song from the other device.
Is there any way you can avoid having to buy the same application for each itouch you have in a family? It would seem that there would be some sort of discount program or family license for stuff you downloaded. I understand that to do that would be less $$s in Apple's pocket but it seems that it doesn't make sense to have multiple devices in a family. Since the game everyone wants to play is on one itouch then the other ones are just sitting collecting dust. It's like haveing 3 TVs in the house but only one cable box. I wonder if Apple would make more $$s by giving away the itouch and just have everyone download apps like crazy. Sort of the same model as Razors - they give you the razor for free but you pay throught the nose for blades for the rest of your life.
Just wondering if there was a way to make the purchase of these Itouches worth while. We're sort of kicking ourselves for letting the kids each get their own itouch. Would have been much cheaper to just get one device and let them each buy applications with their gift cards. They fight over the itouch that has the most desireable game. Seems like the marketing of the whole itunes thing was not all that well thought out, at least not not for families with kids.
    Thanks.

You really are not getting this.
"I guess I am still completely shocked that as a parent we can't download something for everyone to use."
Why do you continue to think this although we keep telling you that this is not the case.
You do NOT have to purchase anything twice.  You can share the music with as many ipods as you like in your household.
The ipods are designed to sync with your computer regularly.  You should have been syncing these other ipods with your computer all along, thus transferring the purchases to your computer where that music can be synced to as many ipods as you like.
Take on of the ipods with the music in it.  Open itunes on your computer.  Plug in the ipod.  Do not sync.  Click File>Transfer Purchases  This will transfer the purchases from the ipod to the computer.  Make sure that you have authorized your account on the computer:  here are directions for that. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
    Unplug the ipod.
Plug in the other ipod with purchased music.  Do not sync.  Click File>Transfer Purchases  This will transfer purchases from the ipod to the computer.
You can now plug in any of the ipods, select what you want to sync and sync.
Have a look at the manual for the ipod.  http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_touch_iOS4_User_Guide.pdf

  • How do you copy automation from one track to another?

How do you copy automation from one track to another? Occassionally I mistakenly blow away a track's automation. I open up an earlier version of the song to try to get the automation. It doesn't seem that you can copy and paste the data. After some struggle, I find a way. Is there an easy way?

    1. Copy the track containing the desired automation to another track. (create a track below it to keep things organized)
    2. Double click on the region and delete the notes.
    3. Now copy the region to the desired track.
P.S. Of course when Logic asks if you want to copy the automation data you say yes)

What may work is to restore the iPhone fom the backup of the iPod.  However, if the two devices ahve different apps that come with the device, that may mess up some of the folders.

I would like to know I am a newbie when it comes to this program so please make your statement understandable for me, thanks. Also, I am having problems creating a drop down menu for each of my web pages. When I go to highlight a specific box on my homepage I want the dropdown menu to appear vertically and not horizontally. This is difficult to understand.   How are you copying templates from another site?
If you have all the files that make up the template, then it's only a matter of saving all the files to a folder on your hard drive and setting up a site definition pointing to this folder.  You then work on the files as usual.

Without seeing the page it's difficult to judge what your problem is.  If possible, please upload the files to a remote server and provide a link to the page. It's the only way people can help - if they see your page in action.

If your IpadMini hasn't got a USB port then the only way I can think of is to email the photo to yourself and then retrieve it by logging to your email account using IpadMini.
This method is fine if you have few photos only.  To transfer 1000s of photos require completely different device that can handle volume on an industrial scale.
    Good luck.
