No, you won't be able to do it that way. Music is intended to go from your computer to the iPod. Going the other way is contrary to the design and is not trivial. To extract music from your iPod requires the assistance of third party utilities.
If you purchased music from the iTunes Store, no worries, you can simply download it again with the one caveat that the music is still available in the Store.
Due to the prevalence of viruses and other crud that infests Windows computers, there are many questions every day on Apple Support about Windows computers that crashed, leaving iPods, iPhones and iPads without their backup. Macs are not totally immune from crashes but they are much rarer, and every Mac sold has software that makes the tedium of backing up your data completely forgettable. All you need is an external storage device - an external hard disk or a Time Capsule. The Mac takes care of everything else.
If you replace your crashed notebook with another Windows box it is just a matter of time before this happens again.
Until then read this helpful guide. There may be hope for you yet: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

How do you sync music from my iPhone 4 to a new computer ?

Take a look here:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141  I think this is what you need.  I just did a clean install of OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard on our iMac (mid-07) and used this guide to get my wife's iPhone to sync with it again...without losing the apps.  This page from OSXdaily is also useful:  http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/29/sync-iphone-new-computer-without-losing-data/  I do use Time Machine, and backed up my drive before I did the whole wipe and install, so I did have all the backup files for the iPhone...  It took a little time, but I did manage to drag all the music and photos over so I didn't lose anything.   Hope this helps.

I have 2 ipods with music from my old computer on it and now my new computer doesnt give me the option to download my music to itunes. I REALLY WANT TO BUY NEW SONGS! please help us figure out how to do this! thanks

You need to transfer the music from your old computer to the new one. You can use Migration Assistant or just copy the files from one to another.
If they were purchased from the iTunes Store all you have to do is "authorize" the computer to play them. You can authorize up to five computers.

  • How do you move itunes to a new computer, keeping the songs in the library?

I have a laptop now and would like to move the itunes from my home computer to my laptop. Is there a way to move it and keep my purchased songs in the library?

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the default location on the new computer. On a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\ (or C:\Username\Music\ in Vista). You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have and iPod, some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch): How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • How do I transfer music files to new computer...

I thought all I had to do was copy the itunes folder in My Music to a hard drive, and then copy that to my new computer in the same path. But when I open the itunes music folder, it is clear that only a fraction of my music files are in there. I want to do this right, so can anyone help?????

Well, you can take all of your music on your iPod and put it onto your HDD...

EDIT: My mistake if that's not what you're looking to do...didn't really understand your question.

Syncing it's one way street, computer iTunes to iPhone (except content bought from the iTunes & App Stores).
To sync muisc from computer iTunes to iPhone:
1> Connect and select iPhone in computer iTunes left sidebar
2> Select the Music tab, and select all the songs you want to sync to iPhone (As many or as few, you don't have to load all 30 GB of music)
    3> Click the Sync button.
If the music on iPhone is not from/on your computer iTunes, you need a 3rd party software to upload it to the computer.

  • How do you copy all podcast information (new/deleted/downloaded) from one computer to another.

I am changing my itunes computer and am trying to move my podcast subscriptions from the old machine to the new one.
I want the new computer to know
    * which podcasts feeds I have subscribed to
    * which podcasts I have deleted
    * which podcasts I currently have downloaded on the old machine, so it can download them on the new machine.
Currently I have only been able to get the feeds transferred.  The trouble with this is that this only automatically downloads the most recent entry - even of the podcasts that I am completely up to date with and have already seen that episode.  And, for the ones where I am not up to date, unless I can transfer the information, I am going to have to go through and manually delete the episodes I've already watched.  (and unfortunately it's not just a case of finding where I'm up to and deleting all previous episodes (some podcasts are out of order, some I want to relisten to) )
Is there any way of doing this?  Old machine has iTunes 8.2, new machine has iTunes 10.2

Thanks - I used the Layer > Duplicate command and it worked great!
P.S. How do you drag and drop a layer? I tried dragging a layer to the other open image, but nothing happened. Do you have to hold down a specific key for this (I'm using Windows)?
