How do you crop a part of a bitmap image in precise dimensions

I have created images of navigation bars and others using Fireworks CS6. However, I notice that selecting a navigation bar does not allow your to crop that image using Crop Selected Bitmap on the Edit menu. Please someone advise me how to crop an image in precise size from Fireworks so that I get a navigation bar in the ideal size I want.

Not sure if my answer is what you are looking for but here goes.
You can crop/delete any part of a bitmap by using the marque tool, I think the default shortcut key is the M key.
Another tip - using the marque tool you can select areas of your bitmap then go to Select (menu) then select inverse... now when you select the delete key it will delete everything outside of the selected marque.
A little more advanced but extremely useful:
The way I work in FW is a bit different. I alsmost never use bitmap graphics, rather I use vectors. Using these handy, quick custom commands that I created http://fireworksinstructionalvideos.com/commands/selectPoints.zip, you can resize any object from any side with a simple shortcut key.
Once you have these four commands installed you can set up some really useful shortcut keys:
Grab points:
Left - shift + alt/option + L
Right - shift + alt/option + R
Top - shift + alt/option + T
Bottom - shift + alt/option + B

How do you crop an image, then modify that cropping?

This takes the cake for simpleton question of the day.
Cropping an image in Illustrator or in InDesign is a breeze.
But how do you control it in Fireworks?
I make a selection with the marquee tool, go to edit and choose crop selected bitmap.
Now, do you mean to tell me that there is no way to modify that crop after the fact?
Can you at least delete the crop without deleting the image?
This cant be this unintuitive.

Masks, yes, masks are great! If you just want to hide parts of your image from view, create a mask. Masks can be other bitmaps or vector objects. Create and position your mask object over your original bitmap. Select both then Modify > Mask > Group as Mask. You can easily undo the masking. White areas in a mask reveal the underlying object. Black or transparent areas in the mask cause your original image to be transparent for those pixels. Grey or semi-transparent produce a proportionally transparent result.
There's also the Paste Inside option, where you can paste your bitmap into a vector shape. The nice thing there is that you can move your bitmap around. (I'm pretty sure, anyway. I don't use this feature.)
Anyway. You have lots of options to remove or hide pixels. The approach you take depends on your needs and preferences.
If you have an image to share and a goal to achieve, we might be able to advise you better.

How do you crop an audio that is in the background for it to then start again in another point in iMovie?

I'm working on this project and it has background music. I need the background music to stop (i.e crop the background music) and then make it start in another point. In simpler words I just need to crop a part of the audio out and continue by fading, or to simply add two background audios.

You're in much more control with your audio, when you do not use the 'background' feature (which is meant for a very convenient 'auto mode'), but use audio as 'clips':
drag your background music onto the first video-clip of your Project
it appears as a green bar
you can process this bar as any other clip in iMovie:
move it, shorten it, split it, copy it. plus, you can apply fades at front at end ....

How do you crop shapes?

I was making a video the other day and I wanted to crop an image so it would fit into a thought bubble I had put on the screen. but I was only able to figure out how to crop top, left, right and bottom. I wasn't able to crop in shapes at all. How do you do this?

When you draw your shape its a open bezier
when you are finished its a closed bezier
When you turn it into a shape to use as a matte for the track matte effect you change the Graphic Type to filled bezier and set the color to pure white.
If you need to animate the matte you place a garbage matte on a white solid instead of using the Titler. Unfortunately the garbage matte does not go beyond 16 points and no bezier handles.
You can feather a matte by adding a Fast/Gaussian Blur to the shape.

How can you loop a part endlessly?

Recently bought Garageband an am really happy with it. I've made a song with two parts, A and B. A is the introduction while I mean for B to basically loop forever, like in most video games, without part A to repeat as well. Now is my question, how can you do that?

Well I guess for a CD you could put the CD player on "Repeat", no? After-all, a CD can only hold 80 minutes, so it won't play all day even if you did loop the same 20 minutes over and over, you could only do 4 iterations.
QuickTime Player is a simple solution too and will sound exactly the same a a CD --Hang

I hope we are talking about reducing the number of pixels of an image by cropping some of them away from a rectangle shape to make the square.
Make sure that the menu Window > Options (near the bottom) is checked "on." It would be much easier to have that tool bar available, as it allows you to set the width, height, and other crop options when the Crop tool is selected.
Launch your rulers if they are not on, View > Rulers
Make sure the rulers display pixels instead of some other units (inches for example).
Settings are under PS Preference > Units and Rulers, but the shortcut is easier, on a Mac I press Control key and mouse up and click the ruler to find the unit options. Pick pixels to make the crop easier.
Before you crop to a specific dimension, change settings in that Options bar, "1000" width and "1000" in the height field.
If the box adds "in" after your 1000, make sure to change "in" (inches) to "px" for pixels. Pixel-size image are typically used for the web or screen viewing, so you can add 72 (or whatever number is requested for resolution).
If you only have a couple of images to crop, you can just fill in the width and hold down Shift-key while you crop to get a square shape.
After you are through with the crops, be sure to "Clear" the entries, so those dimensions don't make you crazy when you try to crop other dimensions some other day.

You can't do that in ACR, but you can if you open it in Photoshop and use the crop tool there.

How can you adjust vertical photos in the interactive image widget?

It appears that adding a vertical image to the Interactive Widget automatically crops the top half of the image and won't let you adjust the default view.
Anyone else having this? Solving this?

Same problem. I cannot move the default position of the image. If you hide the Title, then at least the full image is visible, but it cannot moved and it is aligned to the top of the image area.

I have iPhoto version 2. I have printed the instructions in iPhoto Help for cropping photos, but I seem to need more help. Following the 4 steps in the iPhoto Help section, I seem to have isolated the part of the photo that I want to print and e-mail, but what comes next? Now that I have used the Edit button, and the crosshair pointer, and the Crop icon in the Edit pane, what do I do now? I want that part of the photo that I have identified. How do I get it?

Well, while I was waiting for an answer, I finally fumbled, bumbled, and stumbled to a successful conclusion--I hope (I won't know until my friend acknowledges receipt of the picture.
I have to say that in my case it wasn't a matter of "That's it". My first problem was getting the cropped photo by itself. I think that my problem here was that there were just too many EDIT buttons on my screen. I must have used the wrong one the first time I tried. After that there were problems at EVERY step. Also, even though I finally e-mailed the message, I couldn't quite cope with the ENHANCE and CONTRAST buttons. The problem was they seemed to be one-way streets. I mean that after discovering that I had gone too far and that I didn't like the results, I couldn't reverse things. "Undo ENHANCE" didn't do it, nor did another similarly named button. Finally, I found another button that did the trick. I hope that the ENHANCE, BRIGHTEN, CONTRAST, etc. features have been simplified and improved in future versions. I'll soon know when I buy my next Mac. Thanks for your help.

How do you crop a diagonal pattern in a way that makes it tileable for web?

At the moment I have just given up and made one huge image and kept it at around 800kb for a web background. However, I realize this is not ideal. I can't figure out how to make this pattern tileable. I figure there's some crazy math I have to calculate to figure in the crop size so that the cut off for the images fit perfectly, but I have no idea how to do that. Has anyone run into this situation before and found a solution?

You're doing it wrong! :-)
Use css to solve this problem. Although there is no css property to rotate a background image, you can apply a neat trick to create the same effect.
1) save your file as a regular rectangular pattern (17.6kb!) :
2) save this in your images folder in your site root.
3) to create a rotated background for your page, use this:

PS css transformations are unsupported in IE 8 - the background will still show, though (non-rotated). For IE8 you will might want to use a conditional comment in your html to create a conventional background pattern instead.
*update* I updated the example with a page wrapper element that uses the same background, but rotates it at a different angle. The trick here is to create a sufficiently large element that covers the entire box. Then you will have to set overflow:hidden; to hide the overflow so it contains the background pattern inside that box. It takes a bit of tinkering to get the working values for height and width, because it is slightly dependent on the actual content.
