How do you disconnect an iPod if it is stuck with "Do not Disconnect"

I connected an iPod. It says "do not disconnect". But, it appears to be dead. iTunes does not say it is connected to the iPod. It does not show up in iTunes, so i cannot "eject". Nothing is happening. So, not knowing what to do, after about 10 minutes of waiting, i did disconnect. Now, the iPod is disconnected from the PC, but it still says "do not disconnect". The iPod does not respond to any button, such as "menu" or holding the Play button which would normally shut it off. I guess i can wait until the battery dies.
Any better suggestion?
Thanks, tom.

Hey tomcon!
Happens to me lots... all you've gotta do is toggle your iPod's "HOLD" button on then off again, and then hold both the "SELECT" (Centre of Click Wheel) and "MENU" buttons for about 7-10 seconds.
This will perform a soft reset of your iPod and all in the world will be good again!
Hope this helps!

take 2 fingers and "rotate" themwhile they are on the display and you will think you are so cool that you can reposition the way the screen looks (or even photos).  It is like going from landscape to regular position.

Try Resetting your iPod. Hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display. Have a look at this link as well:

Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".
If you are having difficulty putting your iPod into Disk Mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center. If you are still unable to put your iPod into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.
