How do you do a "type build"

hi. i'm trying to have two lines of type on the screen, but at different times.
for example:
"Line 1" fades on, and stays on (or a logo)
2 seconds later
"line 2" fades on underneath, and both lines stay on screen.
how do i do this?

You can build them as one card (which is often the best way to be able to adjust text for composition) and then duplicate the card (of course you can just edit the one card into the timeline twice but describing it this way seems a little clearer to me). Edit one card onto a video track for the entire duration and crop it to just include line 1. Place card 2 on a higher video track where you want line 2 to appear and crop it to just include line 2. Keyframe opacity for face ins or add dissolves to head of clips.
There are other ways to do this, but particularly if you are supering the text over live action, this seems the best way to me.

What type of backup was it? I'm hoping you were using Time Machine or creating a Bootable Clone using Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner. If that is the case then I'd recommend starting over so you can restore all your data, applications, settings etc... You missed your first chance when you turned on the new system and it asked if you had another Mac you wanted to migrate from. You can get a second chance to do this and migrate. Please carefully look over Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips beginning where he talks about Second Chance....and make sure you have the proper cable before starting. If your backup EHD has a USB connection that will be fine if it has a FireWIre 400 connection you will a cable like this one from Amazon.
You can find these at your local computer store, Walmart, Radio Shack etc..

How do you mix data types with Producer/Consumer?

I am trying to build a VI using Producer/Consumer architecture and trying to learn how to do it. I am measuring two types of data that must be used "simultaneously" to create output commands. The attached vi is a simplified version that I am using to try to understand how the data flows before I build my much larger more complex VI.
I will be collecting three values in an array from a DAQ sequence, and then one single value (also from another DAQ function) in another loop, so, the two loops are labelled THREE VALUES and ONE VALUE. The DAQ's run at different rates, so, that is the reason for the producer/consumer architecture. I want to take each of the three values, and pair it with the most recent one value, (hence the LOSSY ENQUEUE set to max size 1) and create a serial command to be output. (Actually, I would create 3 serial commands, one per value from the THREE loop.)
In the attached VI, I create an array of 3 values, but, I see only one of them during execution. I am trying to see all 4 values, but, I see only one of the THREE, and one of ONE. I think I should see 1, 23, 44, and 99, but, I see only 44 and 99. Where did 1 and 23 go? I want to be able to use (see) 1 and 23 in my consumer loop.

Close to right Apok, A problem. Two solutions possible:
1)The slowest notifier needs to be waited first and have the ignore previous boolean T (Not sure which is slowest) This "Slow Loop" then throttles the slave loop and the "Fast Loop's" notifier looses data between slow loop samples.
2) Wait the Fast loop's notifier first. and leave both notifiers ignore previous =F And, set the slow loop timeout to 0. This duplicates the slow loop value for each fast loop acquisition.

How do you *unset* Content-Type when using HttpURLConnection ?

I am using HttpURLConnection to set some http headers. It all works fine except that this utility is setting Content-type to text/html even though I cam not coding it to do so. I can overwrite Content-type by setting it to say, a blank, explicitly in the code, but Content-type still appears as a header (eg if I view the headers in a proxy.)
My question is - how do you completely unset Content-Type? Here's the code snippet :

thanks very much for trying this, the background to this is as follows :
I am testing a software server caching product which is giving me weird behaviour; the actions the cache performs are supposed to be based on the various http headers. I am using a debug proxy ("Charles") (limited freeware-for-a-short-period) to see exactly what http headers are being set by the calling browser, or in this case, the java program. I am setting the headers directly in the code above to match what my browser is setting, as revealed by Charles. Trouble is, I'm getting different reponses back: The browser gets a http 304 from the cache and my java program gets a 200, so I have obviously failed to emulate the browser.. and the only difference I can see is that the Conetnt-Type is not set when I call the page from internet explorer, but with my program above, Content-Type is set, to a default of text/html. I want to get rid of it so I have copied the browser http header settings 100%.
- I tried compiling this code and running it from the prompt (outside of development environment) and Content-Type is still showing up. So from what you are saying... if your attempt does not set this.. then it looks like Content-type must be getting set via some other means?

I'm new to Keynote and would like to take an existing Power Point presentation and make it more interesting by adding some special effects with the type and images.
I can't seem to figure out how to do that.

I need to know more here to help answer this question. Do you mean animating text, graphics, etc., like in traditional presentation software.
If so, you would use the Inspector and lick on animation button and set your build in and build out options, the order of the effect, etc., in Keynote. There are many effects you can choose from and can apply them to both text and graphics.
If you are speaking of more complicated stuff, let me know and I can help you with that as well.

How do you change app type?

I want to update an app from v25 to v27 and change it from "Multi Folio" to "Multi Folio with Entitlement and Subscription." When I go into app builder, the app type field is grayed out and defaulted to "Multi Folio." There is no other option or drop down function. Can I edit the existing app to make these changes, or do I have to create a new app to change the app type and version?

Unfortunately, you can't edit the app in App Builder to change the app type. Instead, you need to build a new app. Use the same mobileprovision files so that Apple knows it's an update to an existing app, not a new app.

How do you select paper type in Photoshop Elements 10?

Sorry to be a total technotard, but in the olden days, I could select paper type (e.g. glossy photo) from the print menu when printing from Photoshop. I now have a new iMac & Photoshop Elements 10, and there is no way to select paper type, at least not that I can find. Is this an Adobe Elements thing? Cuz I can't figure out how to do it, and it's driving me nuts!!!!!! Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are working in Full Edit you need to have an image open in the main window. Then Click:
File à Print
After selecting your print size and paper size, hit the Print button.
When the system print dialog opens use the Quality & Media and other dropdown menus.

How would you create a type book?

I asked about this yesterday in the context of creating outline text: a 416 page type specimen book with 3000 fonts, had 30-50 fonts where the numbers and basic punctuation failed to print (there were small rectangles instead). . . . thank you to everyone who tried to help yesterday.
CreateSpace (an Amazon company) was the printer. They said it was easy to fix by re-embedding the fonts. The fixed proof printed perfectly, but I had to make some small edits--about 6 typos. The print-ready file was a PDF/X-1a file. (I asked what they meant by "re-embed" and they would not tell me.)
The corrected file (also a PDF/X-1a) was uploaded, with a note saying they needed to re-embed the fonts. But this time CreateSpace said the file was "too complex to print." I argued with them a bit, and they finally fixed the file. The proof printed perfectly. This time, when I asked what they had done, they said they had to convert the text to outline: facing a third correction, I want to do as much as I can, hence my post yesterday.
Question
How should I prepare the latest corrected PDF from an InDesign file (authored in InDesign, if that matters) that would present the least problems printing? (I am working in Creative Suite CS 6)
CreateSpace will not tell anyone what presses they use (although I know that they use Indigo 5500 presses, at least at one time), what profiles, what RIP . . . they will give out no technical information.

When CS said the revised (6 typos) book was too complex to print (although they had already printed it successfully), they advised me to ask for help on the CS forum. If you go to the forum, you'll see that I am active there (ID--Walton), so in effect, they were telling me to ask me for help.
My experience with CS goes back to when it was BookSurge. The CEO told me that his policy was to not give out technical information unless the book in question was paid (uploads were $95 each). The catch was that you uploaded and paid at the same time. When you uploaded you didn't have a question. When they rejected the book, you had a question, but you were not paid up. I submitted projects that were 100% in accordance with their submission guidelines, only to have them rejected . . . because the guidelines were wrong! I found at least half a dozen mistakes in the guidelines, at $95 each! CS absorbed that culture of secrecy.

We are trying to type up a report for my son and he wants to state a temprature using the numbers and a degree charchter however we do no see how to do this.

I thought it was odd you asking that question but now that I re-read it, I see I skipped over the actual question (though I'm not 100% certain it was a real question) and answered a statement. In my defense, sometimes people "ask" questions that way.
I preface my responses with statements like "On the US keyboard", "In the US iTunes store" or whatever when there is some indication that the person asking is from outside the US and it might affect the answer. That didn't seem to be the case here.
Option Shift 8 is for the US keyboard. It might apply to other keyboard layouts as well.

I have the grid made, with tthe grid tool. I tried shear tool and that doesn't seem to get me there and I tried the free distort tool but that does not make it precise.
I know there is some way to grab the top two corners and pull them down and in closer but I am drawing a blank on what it is right now, please help if you can.

Simply apply the group to a perspective grid or create a warp with a simple rectangle as the envelope.

How do you make Robot type out a variable String?

I don't know why I'm having an issue with this. I want the Robot class to type out a string one character at a time as if I were sitting at the keyboard and doing it myself. There will be many, variable strings to type. Here is what I tried to do and it fails miserably:

p - instead of 'p', 'F1' is triggered and the Notepad help window pops open
l - instead of 'l', it gives me nothing at all
e - instead of 'e', it gives me another '5'
What am I doing wrong here? This was supposed to be easy...

I don't see a keycode conversion here, keycodes for a to z are the same as ASCII, what I do see is an int conversion of what ever character set you have running on your computer. If I take your approach to conversion, then I get different codes on different keyboards/systems also. What I finally ended up doing is making a map for my keys and everything started working fine.
For me, the problem expressed itself when I went from my Windows with MS-Keyboad to my Ubuntu with an earlier style MS-Keyboad. How do you transfer different types of data through a data socket (data types: clusters, images and boolean states)

I am attempting to transfer positional data (on a predetermined route) overlaid on a map and indications of boolean output states to secondary computer through datasocket (LabVIEW 8.6, Datasocket 4.5). Is it required to compress all these parts into an array which is bundled and transmitted to the secondary computer which then would have to be unbundled and separated out of the array? Is this the only option, or are there other methods? Also how would we go about these methods?
