How do you fit still images (jpegs) to match clips in Final Cut Pro 7?

The images are too small and the clip can be seen on the borders.  I tried making them bigger b/f dragging but that distorted the image.   I shot the video in 16:9 and shot the pictures with my IPhone not using HD.

Now, are you asking about a procedure in FCP7? Cuz this is the FCPX forum. But, if you are asking how your conform images to fit "LIKE" FCP7, but in FCPX... Here's how. In addition to the transform / crop tools, go to your inspector. In the "Spatial Conform" section there is a drop down for "fit."

  • How do you import a Widescreen Quick Time File captured by Final Cut Pro?

    Hi
Here's my workflow: I captured HD 1440X1080 footage in Final Cut Pro. FCP creates a folder of Quick Time Files in a Scratch Folder. A month ago, I had no problem importing the Quick Time files into IMOVIE HD 6 and preserving the widescreen format.
Now, for some reason, when I import the same files into IMOVIE HD, it is squashing the image (stretching it vertically) and leaving a gray bar on the left side of the screen.
Can IMOVIE HD import Widescreen QT files created by FCP? If so, how?
    All help appreciated.
    Phil

iDVD does everything automatically for you. With DVDSP and Compressor, all steps must be done correctly. The trade off is that you achieve better quality using Compressor over iDVD.
    1. First thing to do is export your sequence as an uncompressed interlaced 25i 720 x 576 16x9 Anamorphic QT.
    2. Determine your optimal bitrate by using a bitrate calculator. Here's a good one. Remember you need to account for all video on the disc, including motion menus.
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
    3. Bring your down converted QT into Compressor and use the manual settings set your bitrate. Also encode out a Dolby digital AC3 file. These files take up less bandwidth than uncompressed audio. Also remember to match your upper fiiled dominate filed order as well in Compressor. This must be consistent throughout the export and encoding stages.
    4. bring your encoded video and audio files into DVDSP and author

  • How can you make 3d models work in Motion 5 or Final Cut Pro for under 100$

How would you be able to make a 3d model appear in Final Cut Pro or Motion and work, for cheap.

Not sure what you mean by work or cheap but if you're looking to do 3D modelling on the cheap I'd suggest looking into Google Sketchup or Cheetah 3D- http://www.cheetah3d.com/. FCP X and Motion are not 3D modellers.

  • How do I zoom in and out on a clip using final cut pro 6?

I have searched around and I haven't found anything about how to zoom in and out on non-still video. I am sure there is some simple explanation as of how to do this but I can't seem to find it. If you guys could help me out that would be great. Thanks.

Double click the clip in the Timeline, to place it in the viewer.
In the Viewer window click the Motion tab. Adjust the "Scale" control and set keyframes as needed.

  • How to apply 3 way color correction to multiple clips in Final Cut Pro?

I have multiple clips from the same time and space footage that need color correction. I have worked on one of the clips and found the settings I like.
Is there a way to apply that correction to other clips without starting from scratch on each one?
    Thanks!

SoCal (above) listed one way. Another way you can do it if you like the color correction that you have done and want to save it, you can click the picture of the hand in the color correction tab and drag it into the browser. This saves that specific arrangement of colors, highlights, etc.
Also, this might be a little easier but instead of pasting attributes and right clicking you can just grab the hand (that I just talked about) and drag it onto the clips you want to apply the same color correction to. The hand is located in the color correction tab (in viewer) and is under the "numeric" button.
Note: All of your clips in your timeline will have different contrasts, brightness, colors, etc. NO clip is going to have the EXACT same attributes as another. It doesn't matter how expensive and professional your camera is. Every shot is different whether you are using artificial lighting or the natural lighting. Having that said, you will probably still need to adjust your different clips a little bit to make them look like they are in the same room at the same time. Hopefully if your lucky or had perfect lighting for all of your shots, you will not have to do much messing around with your contrast, brightness, etc. Good luck!

  • How do I achieve a high quality PAL SD DVD from Final Cut Pro?

From a PMW-EX1 camera file edited in Final Cut Pro I am unable to produce a high quality PAL SD DVD using compressor and DVD Studio Pro (tried multiple combinations).
Using Final cut pro and Magic iDVD I can achieve a high quality SD DVD with no changes in export. But am limited to the iDVD restrictions.
From discussions it appears using compressor and DVD Studio pro it is not achievable, it is very frustrating that the Apple product you have to buy is not as efficient as the free one?
If not possible then how do I access the encoded file from IDVD?
My Final cut pro sequence settings:
    General - Aspect ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9) 1920x1080, square and upper(Odd)
Quicktime video settings compressor: xdcam ex 1080i50 (35 mb/s vbr)

  • How to fade background music out and fade in video clip audio Final Cut Pro X

I am putting together videos and photos made during one of the trips, and I have background music running throughout the whole movie, but I want to fade this music during some parts of the video to hear the original speech/sounds of it, and then increase the volume of background music again. I know that in iMovie it is done in a few simple steps, and it almost automatically fades the music in/out. But I cannot find any similar options in Final Cut Pro X, how do you do it there? (I have 10.1.2 version)

This is very easy to do.
Press the letter R to switch to the Range tool. Drag the appropriate range in the audio clip. Press A to go back to the normal arrow tool. Drag the volume down. (Alternatively, instead of pressing R and then A, you can just hold down the letter R while you drag; then release and you are still using the arrow tool)

  • Image quality using iMovie 08 vs Final Cut Pro

I read in November's Macworld that if I use a tapeless camcorder, "you won't get the best image quality if you use iMovie '08 because the software converts each movie clip to smaller, more manageable size. To get the highest quality you'll need to be running Final Cut Pro on a Mac Pro with at least 2GB of RAM." Do you all agree with this? And if so, please consider the following. I used a mini DV camcorder to transfer all my tapes to my computer and to an external hard drive. Have I already lost that image quality in doing so using iMovie? If so, can Final Cut Pro import from iMovie and improve that quality by decompressing or will I need to retransfer the tapes using Final Cut Pro or will the difference be too negligible to be noticed and not to bother. Thanks, SWestD

To get the highest quality you'll need to be running Final Cut Pro on a Mac Pro with at least 2GB of RAM." Do you all agree with this?
It depends on the format. In general, the consumer tapeless cameras shoot some highly compressed variant of the mpeg2 or mpeg4 format (delivery formats). These formats are not designed to be edited but rather to be displayed directly from the camera to the TV. In order to edit the material, you must first convert the files from their delivery format to something editiable. This conversion usually results in LARGER not smaller files. There is the potential for some minimal alteration of the image in the transcoding process. This is the trade-off for shooting with such a compressed format.
And if so, please consider the following. I used a mini DV camcorder to transfer all my tapes to my computer and to an external hard drive. Have I already lost that image quality in doing so using iMovie?
No, capturing DV material from tapes using iMovie is a direct digital transfer. DV/NTSC or DV/PAL video as captured from tape is the muxed (mixed audio and video) DV stream. It is an exact replica of what is on the tape.
If so, can Final Cut Pro import from iMovie and improve that quality by decompressing or will I need to retransfer the tapes using Final Cut Pro or will the difference be too negligible to be noticed and not to bother.
FCE and FCP capture material from tapes slightly differently than iMovie. While iMovie brings the material from the tape unaltered, FCE/FCP uses Quicktime during capture to pull the audio and video into separate streams with in the resulting file. By having the audio demuxed, the programs are able to edit multiple video streams simultaneously while iMovie is limited on one at a time. The video quality is not altered in this demuxing process.
If you choose to shoot with a tapeless camera and edit the material in FCE or FCP, FCP has a wider range of formats that can be handled by the program, but in no way will it deal with them all. Many still need to be converted into an edit friendly format before you bring them into the program.

  • How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card to Final cut Pro 5.1.4

How can I import HDV-Files from a CF-Card (recorded with the Sony HVR Z 7E) to Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 – is this possible at all?
I managed to import the files to Premiere, but it was just a test. I am working at a very huge documentary project with Final cut Pro Version 5.1.4 thats why I would prefere not to change the program or the version.
Simply exporting from Premiere back to final cut is also very complicated.
    Thanks for any ideas.

First, copy the card to a hard drive connected to your fcp workstation.  I always back up all card based media at least 2 or three times.  All hard drive will eventually fail.  It's a question of when, not if.
I'm not familiar with this particular camera, but examine the contents of the copied files and see if you can find any .mov files.  You can try importing these directly into fcp.
If you don't, you can try something like clipwrap
    http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap
    or
    Magic Bullet Grinder
    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/
But, I'd really advise upgrading to at least fcp6 or ideally fcp7 if you can find a copy.  HDV is a problematic format.  Although you can certainly work with it and it's a fcp approved format, converting your media to prores would make your life much easier.

  • How do i delete .lock video files on my iMac in final cut pro

I'm trying delete video files in Final Cut Pro X but they come with cant delete because of .lock how can i get rid of these?

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.
