How do you format your hole Macbook Pro to brand new?

Hi,
I'm selling my Macbook Pro to someone. And they want the hole thing formated to new.
How does one do it? I can't find anything on google which I found odd. I only know how to with Windows.

Boot to your recovery media or partition by holding Option on startup and selecting it, then when you come to the install screen, select Disk Utility fromt he Applications menu on the top bar and then Erase the disk you want wiped (Usually Macintosh HD). Then exit disk utility, and install!

I don't quite understand what you are saying? If i recieve and read an iMessage on the iPhone and then switch on my Mac, I don't get a notification about a new message, but that iMessage appears on the conversation.

The easiest way for you to do this is to transfer the information to an external drive as an intermediary, then transfer the information from your drive to the internal drive on your iMac. We have an article that explains the steps for doing this, and it can be found here:

Is there anyway to either trade in your old Macbook Pro for a new version, or get a new power cord when the old one has been damaged?

Well i was just wondering.. since i do have a older version of the Macbook Pro.. and the fact that the power cord has been damaged

You can always get a price on what an Apple affiliate would give you for your old MacBook Pro by going to http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/faq.html and reading the instruction for the reuse program. Or you can sell your old one on eBay (that's what I did - you'll get more for it). Apple doesn't do a simple trade-in.
Your cheapest route is just to buy a new adapter. If you don't know which adapter to get, call Apple and they can tell you, or visit your local Apple Store. They're about $80.

I really need this issue resolved it is driving me insane!!! How can the images appear perfectly fine on my laptop then when transferring over to a USB stick they just corrupt!?

How do I format a 2008 macbook pro

I am getting a new Macbook Pro and want to give my 2008 to my grandson. I have the original Macbook Pro OSX disks (2), but had upgraded to Leopard and then to Lion. Lion is the current OS, but that was a download. I no longer have the Leopord disk as I gave that away with a Imac I formatted to a local charity.
All I really want to do is clear all of the hard drive space since I am not too concerned with security and would like him ot have the Lion OS.
Should I be doing a full format so he gets a 'clean' mac, or is there a way that i can clear all of the data and leave the OS as is?

Create a new user with Admin privileges, and then delete your current user ID. That will take out anything you installed, outside of the operating system. For completeness, I would then bring up Disk Utility and erase free space.
Alternatively, you could boot into Lion recovery mode (command and R keys held down while booting), bring up Disk Utility, erase the hard drive (recommend writing zero's to the hard drive, as this also resets the hard drive bad block table), then reinstall Lion. That's as clean as it gets. If you have any other software to load from backup, do that. Done!

Can we assume that you have iTunes 10.x installed? Can we further assume that iTunes recognizes your touch and it appears in iTunes under Devices in the left hand navigation column?
If your touch has not automatically transferred it's purchases, you can plug it into iTunes, and click on File > Transfer Purchases.
As to not syncing, there will be nothing to sync until you have content in your iTunes libraries and you have set your syncing preferences. When your iPod is recognized, you should see a series of tabs that you would click on and setup your syncing preferences.

How to migrate from my old MacBook Pro to a new one with less disk space and an external hard drive?

I have just bought a new MacBook Pro and an external hard drive.
Yet I have problems migrating data from my old MacBook Pro (more internal disk space with around 500 GB data) to my new one (internal disk space less than 500 GB).
I have connected all 3 devices but it seems the Migration Assistant does not have an option for us to select to migrate to an external hard drive.
Any other way to do it?

How do I connect my 2008 macBook Pro to my new iMac?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro ( model 1261 ), and I want to use my iMac as an external monitor. The laptop has a DVI output, but no thunderbolt port, and I have tried connecting the two computers via the DVI on the laptop, and the thunderbolt port on the iMac with the appropriate cable. Unfortunately, this didn't work, ( unless I did something wrong ). I went into system preferences, but it wasn't telling me that there another screen to prioritise. Am I using the wrong cable/ports, or doing something wrong in the set-up?
Any help will be much appreciated
