How do you get a 4.36-gig file onto a DVD-R that will only take 4.28 gigs?

Hi there -- the kind folks in the iDVD forum explained why my 4.7-gig DVD-Rs won't actually hold 4.7 gigs, but the topic seems to have ground to a halt after that.
I have a 4.36-gig video/movie file (suffixed "ISO," if that's relevant) that I tried to burn to a 4.7-gig DVD-R, but the DVD-R says there's only 4.28 gigs available. I tried this on three different disks from two different packages.
What can I do to burn the file onto a DVD-R?
I have Final Cut Express if that can be used to reduce the size a little bit -- I've never used the program, so any instructions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Al -- thanks for your reply. I actually e-mailed the file's originator and he suggested using Disk Utility instead of just trying to drag the files onto the DVD-R. He said it would fit if I did this, and darned if he wasn't right!

Photos are not stored in iTunes.
Photos available on your computer, which can be transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, are not stored in iTunes, but iTunes can handle this transfer process.
Photos captured by your iPhone are just like photos captured by any digital camera. These photos must be imported or transferred from your iPhone to your computer in the same or similar way as photos are imported from any digital camera to your computer - which is not done with iTunes.

If they are in a supported format then you can add them to your computer's iTunes and then sync them over to the iPad - the video formats that are suppored by the iPad are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
If you can't get them into iTunes then you can probably use something such as Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr) to convert them. If you can get them into iTunes but not onto the iPad (not all formats that are supported by iTunes are supported by the iPad), then Advanced > Create iPad Version in iTunes might create a version that can then be synced to the iPad.

There's a free downloadable program called Streamclip (www.squared5.com/) that will let you convert the audio format to .aiff audio that can be played by iMovie. I had a clip that wouldn't play audio in iMovie, and Streamclip was able to convert it so it would play.

How do I get iTunes to automatically drop files from it's list that I have deleted?

When I delete files (such as podcasts) for soeme reson iTunes does not see that it's gone. The file stays on the list oniTunes with a ! next to it as well as on the iPod. Is there a setting that will fix this issue?

iTunes manages all those simple tasks so that human beings can think about, and get on with, making the more interesting decisions in life. Reliving us of the drugery of life's chores is what computers are best at.
iTunes can remember the number of times any song has been played. While I personally don't worry too much about that, I do use the play count to manage my Smart Playlists.
ITunes offers Smart Playlists, where you set the rules and then iTunes adds and removes songs from the playlist for you, according to those rules. When a Sync (between iTunes and the iPod) takes place, the Playlists on the iPod are updated for you, which means that you don't have to manually move songs in and out of Playlists. (See my use of the iPod, below.)
iTunes can display your Music Library in many different ways, allowing you to find any particular piece of music in your Library, sort that music and generally manage your Library.
iTunes can list songs in last played order, so consider the following scenario: the iPod is connected to the car stereo, but as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, you are unable to find out the name of the song playing, because you're busy driving. But if you make a note of the time the song finishes playing, or a note of any other song played just before or after, then after the next Sync of the iPod with iTunes, it's then a simple task to get iTunes to list the Last Played times and you can easily find the song that you were interested in. (This happens to me all the time with new albums.)
Everyone has their own preferences for how they listen to their music. iTunes makes it possible to choose the options that suit you, as an individual.
If ever your iPod gets so confused that it needs to be restored, all content is removed from the iPod when you perform a Restore function (using iTunes). After the Restore has been completed, iTunes will put your Library back onto your iPod for you. So within minutes, a very large Library, complete with your Playlists, is added back to your iPod. You could not do that manually without missing out some of your choices or making errors.
When you replace your iPod, either as a result of updating to a newer model, theft or breakage of your old iPod, or simply because it's worn out, iTunes will put your Library onto your new device and you will have all your choices available immediately.
For my own use of the iPod and iTunes, I like to listen to a varied selection of songs, from different styles and moods, but without knowing what's coming next. To this end, I have a Smart Playlist which automatically compiles a playlist of songs, by looking at other Playlists and that fits my preference very well. When I Sync the iPod with iTunes, that Playlist is automatically updated, and songs that have been played are removed from the list. New songs are added. Some songs are left out of that Smart Playlist for:
2-star rated songs, thireteen months
3-star rated songs, 5 months
4&5-star rated songs, 4 months
unrated songs, not played for 14 months, 50 songs only added to this list
...and 80 songs I have never played are added to the list
It's like having my own radio station, with my own personal choice, not that of a music streaming service, and I never get "bored of hearing the same song too frequently". Imagine managing that manually!
Of course, none of this may be enough for some people. It's a free world, choose an alternative make of media player. There's no need to come here and moan about iTunes though, we don't need to know.
I would be curious to know what came first. Tossing the iPod into a box, or creating this thread.

so i had my itunes account from years ago on my pc, and my ipod nano with the video camera. then i got an ipad and descovered i could buy music right on there. then i got a laptop and downloaded itunes onto it. i signed into apple and my whole library of music (containing all of the music from my ipad) showed up. i wanted to know if i could get all of the songs that i didnt have on my ipod from my new purchases on it so i erased everything on my ipod and when i went to download the music in my library to it there was no way to, so now my ipods empty. how do i get my music on my iopd nano? the same music thats on my library and ipad.

How can I get an iMovie on my iPad onto a DVD?

Hi! I wish to move an iMovie from my iPad onto a DVD. I do not have a mac but I have an asus computer and blank DVDs. I've been trying to get it to work by accessing my videos then copying the video to the desktop, then moving the video to the desktop and then burning it to the disk, but it's not working. It always says error. Is it in the wrong format? What do I do? I really have to get this done tonight so all answers appreciated! Thanks so much!!

My turning it into a standard video DVD in mpeg2 format - which is what iDVD does.
Alternatively export it as a Quicktime file.

I need help urgently!!! How do you get a button to open up a menu or something that has more buttons on it.

I need to find out how to create a button that when pressed will bring up a menu with other buttons on it. I am doing this for a school assignment. Basicly, i select "Shoes" and that brings up a menu where i can chose from a bunch of different shoes. Please help!!

create a submenu movieclip that contains the additional buttons.
you can then add a listener to your main button the causes that movieclip to be added to the stage (eg, by using addChild).

For photos, you need to sync from old device to computer then from computer to new device. Use Itunes to make a backup of the old device then restore to the new one.

How do you get your download photos to go in in the order that you download them in?

Everytime i download my pictures from my iPad or iPhone, into the main and into thier albums, the album gets completely mixed.
They dont go in in order. In the "arrange by" window, i cant find the option that makes the photos in the order that i put them in, in... please help!!!

The order that photos appear in iPhoto on the Mac is controled by the iPhoto sort options - in events under the view menu ==> sort events

How can I get music from two diff devices onto my phone if it's only synced to one?

I have a desktop an laptop both windows with iTunes on both with same Apple ID. Both have diff music on each But the laptop is sync to my iphone & when I have tried to sync my I phone to my desktop it wiped my music. Assuming it isn't purchased content from the iTunes Store, then your only way is to put all the music onto one computer and sync with that.

My Laptop was stolen. How can I get my photos from my iphone onto my new laptop that are in albums, not the camera roll?

I have photos in albums that are stored on my iphone. My laptop that I had everything backed up on was stolen. I would like to be able to re-sync my iphone with my new laptop (Windows 8) without losing the photos that are in my albums.
