You can also reset the home screen layout and the icon will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

You have been syncing the iPhone with iTunes on your computer without a SIM card inserted in the iPhone for how long?
If the iPhone says connect to computer, this means there is a problem with your iPhone that requires restoring the iPhone with iTunes. As already provided, not having a SIM card inserted in an iPhone does not prevent or shouldn't prevent syncing the iPhone with iTunes. Depending on the iPhone model, it is required in order to restore the iPhone with iTunes.

I think I figured out how to access the genius Recommended Songs sidebar. This should help those of you who, like me, use genius to find new music from the iTunes Store, instead of just to create genius playlists. It appears that you CAN access my beloved Recommended Song list from iTunes 11...only NOT from your library's Songs page, but through the Albums or Artists pages.
1. Click on a song you want to see Genius Recommendations for so the song row is highlighted.
2. Go to either the Albums or Artists page by clicking the appropriate button at the top of the library screen.
3. Click "In The Store" at the top right of the new popup screen:

Restore the phone to the backup you made of the device before you did the update. That is where the contacts and messages are.

With the replacement phone, I set up the cloud storage for back up offered by Google but it only accessed the data on the phone's main memory and not the separate SD Card that is installed. NDBeartrap, Let's help get your daughter's info back! If the info was backed up the cloud, you would be able to download it back to the device. Can you verify that there is info on the sd card? this can be done by inserting the sd card into a reader w/adapter or phone that is compatible. Please let us know what happens.

If you don't have a backup, well you can't. Start storing your contacts in a supported contact application on your computer & you won't have this problem in the future. And, backup your computer.

If so: check www.icloud.com and log in there, go to Contacts
If they're there, you can sync them back at Settings - iCloud - Contacts

If they are on your MacBook, open contact on your Mac, click on All Contacts on the left-hand side, click on a single contact to the right and press Command-A to select them all (they should all be highlighted). Then go to File>Export>Export vCard and save the file on your desktop. Then email this file to yourself, open it on your iPhone and tap the attachment to import them back to your phone and to iCloud.
If you have multiple accounts on your phone you might want to first go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and be sure this is set to iCloud. This will ensure that the contacts will be added to iCloud when you import them.
