How do you get fonts to look normal after upgrade to snow leopard

fuzzy or blurred on both imac and external acer 24 inch monitor.
anyone know how to get them back to normal?

I was having the problem of fuzzy fonts in Terminal (which I use a lot, being a UNIX guy). I use 14 pt Bold Courier New a lot, and it was fuzzy after my SL upgrade on a 21" iMac (2 Ghz dual core). I finally discovered the "antialias text" button in the Terminal preferences. In my case it was turned on for all of my terminals that had fuzzy fonts. I unclicked this button in all of my terminal preferences, and voila, clear fonts again.

  • Safari looks odd after upgrading to snow leopard

As the title said, I just installed snow leopard I received today. Safari looks really odd (see the screenshot below. The toolbar and bookmarks bar have different colors). I had an unofficial theme installed on leopard. I didn't have it uninstalled before upgrading. Dose it account for this?? Anybody have idea about how to fix this? Thanks.
You can see the picture here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/41947024@N06/3865661667/

The file you need to locate and remove is found here:
    "~/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist"
I forgot to look inside it before I deleted it, but I can't imagine you're going to have any trouble after removing it.
For anyone who doesn't know how to remove this, you can pop open Terminal.app and paste the following command, which will put the file on your desktop for you to decide what to do with it. Then re-launch Safari.
    "mv ~/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist ~/Desktop/GlobalPreferences.plist"

  • Lost fonts (maximo and others) after upgrading to snow leopard

Did anyone else notice missing fonts after upgrading and/or updating?  I opened up a file created before the upgrade and I was notified of about 5 missing fonts...not cool.
    Thanks!

    mhh - bad news.
To the background: In Pages there are some templates. I took one of them (2-3 years ago) and redesigned it for my use. I didn't changed any Fonts. Some changes for borders etc - nothing more.
Before I installed the fresh Lion installation it works. On the harddisk was installed 10.2 - 10.7 (with all the upgrades).
My opinion is, that the Font is a part of the templates or a part of OS X 10.x. I have no problem to reinstall the font (all DVD's are working), but where should I start searching for the font ;-)
To buy the font is one way ... the last path.

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If it's a Mac, try Senuti or Music Rescue.

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
SL may have taken the initiative and quarantined what it determined were borked fonts and put them aside to avoid calamity.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
That said, rumor has it that the next update will correct some spurious font handling....best to wait if housecleaning doesn't help at this time.

  • HT1338 How do i get mountain lion when my system is pre snow leopard? Maybe 4 years old??

Cant get my mac to update, or it cant find any OS X updates.  The system is old, pre snow leopard i think

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • How do I get MBP back to factory condition then reinstall snow leopard?

I have a new Macbook Pro that came with Leopard installed and the Drop-in Snow Leopard dvd. I upgraded to Snow Leopard as soon as I got it home and then used migration assistant to migrate from a cloned back up of my old macbook which was running Tiger. I have also installed Logic Express and subsequently now seem to have a number of problems that make me think that the best thing to do would be to get everything back to the factory condition and start again. The only thing I need to preserve are my emails as I haven't really put anything else on the computer yet as all my photos and music are on an external drive. I have Mobile Me so my emails should all be stored on that somewhere ( I think?)
Should I do a erase and install from the original Leopard discs that came with the computer and then upgrade to Snow Leopard again from the drop-in dvd and then set everything up from fresh?
Or...should I just wait until I can get an appointment with a Genius at my local Apple Store? They are booked up until the middle of the week!

There is no reason to wait for a genius. Some say that you can do an erase and install with your Sno drop-in DVD. I would try that first. Then, if no luck, I'd reinstall Leo via erase and install and upgrade to Sno. I would not migrate from the Tig clone again. I'd just drag and drop my data and reinstall my apps by hand. Leave all peripherals disconnected during whichever install you do. But, stay connected to the internet. Doing so will facilitate joining your network, getting to the internet, and connecting with MobileMe. You MobileMe mail will show up when you start using mail; it may take awhile though. You will need to use your supplementary Leo DVD to reinstall iWork and iLife. Also, use your Leo install DVD to install QT 7 and Rosetta if you want them.

  • I took Lion off my Macbook Pro and put Snow Leopard back on and now I can't access Mail or iPhoto. How do I get Mail and iPhoto to work with the Snow Leopard I just put back on?

Hi. I was having slowness problems with my Macbook Pro and thought I would re-install Lion but put Snow Leopard back on by mistake. I bought the computer used with Lion on it and don't have access to the USB drive or a username/password to reinstall Lion. Now I can't access Mail or iPhoto since I put Snow Leopard on.
Is there a way to get my Mail and iPhoto working again with Snow Leopard or do I have to "re-upgrade" to Lion?
    Thanks!
    Steve

You can't. When you converted those libraries to Lion's format, you lost the ability to go backwards. Unless you saved a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous SL installation, you're up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle.

  • How can I get an HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?

Is there a way to get our HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?  This printer is a workhorse, and even though it is so old, our budget and common sense say not to get rid of it.

Install the HPIJS package. This is an open source set of drivers for older printers.  HP dropped support for a whole lot of printers when Snow Leopard was developed.  These drivers fill the gap.
You will need to install three components - Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and the hpijs package.  They are all on the HPIJS web page.  Once installed, restart your Mac, connect your printer.  You will probably need to go into System Preferences > Print & Fax to select the printer and set it as your default printer.  After that it works great.  And it also works on Lion.

  • Font Problem after Upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Has anyone else noticed this? I open a Keynote I had just done before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and the Bullets and font are all jumbled together, and don't play when I try to play the slideshow?

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my Epson printer drivers did not load and i get an error 'rasteroescpll failed'. I have tried reloading the driver to no effect. Can anyone help?

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and at the end of the upgrade the printer drivers failed to load. I have since updated them myself (Epson BX305) but still get an eror message 'rasteroescpll failed'. can anyone help?
I have an Imac previously running 5.8.0 and now running 6.3.0.
    thank you
    Hugh

The current driver version is 8.67.
    Delete you printer.
    Delete the folder /Library/Prnters/EPSON
    Delete the folder /Library/Caches/Epson
Unplug your printer from your computer for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.  You should be prompted to download the new drivers.
If all that fails, you can get the new drivers from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398

The main differences that can cause a problem are scripting additions (64-bit vs 32-bit and security reasons) and the usage of dates (it is not as forgiving). AppleScript itself is basically the same, so if empty paragraphs are what caused your problems the update would have just been a coincidence.
