How do you get it to recognise a Palm?

Acquired this MacPro and am still getting used to its quirks - it certainly doesn't seem to have any of the easy-to-use ness that the publicity claims - but that maybe because I am used to Windows.
I started by downloading a load of software updates - about 100Mb, lots of things seem to assume you have high speed internet access (eg iTunes always wants to connect to some shop or other), I guess Macs simply not usable if you are on dial-up. Fortunately this one is at work but I could never have one at home on this basis.
I plugged in my Palm so I could transfer my contacts and diary expecting it to recognise it and install the appropriate software automatically like it does on a PC - but nothing happens.
I found an application called isync with just two buttons labelled 'sync devices' and another labelled .mac. The .mac button is something to do with the internet so I tried the 'sync devices' button which seemed logical. It then asked me to add a device and then says it can't find any device. There is no help button on this application so I don't know what version it is but it didn't update when I downloaded all that stuff so I assume it is the latest - can anyone explain how to add a Palm (well Sony Clie TH55 actually) device and transfer the data?
I think the MacPro is now running v10.4.11 if that helps.
So far my Mac experience is not good, I was toying with getting a MacBook for my personal use, but it seems a lot to pay for something that is less easy to use than WindowsXP. Incidentally how do you guys manage without a right mouse button - Firefox underlines mis-spelt words as normal but there is no right button to correct them...

The Palm Desktop is available to download from the Palm site:

though this doesn't list the Clie devices and you may need to check which version you should be using. The Desktop will run on 10.4.
The 'Apple' key is the Command key.
You may need USB Overdrive - a useful program - unless the mouse comes with a Mac driver (some Miscrosoft mice do). Apple's Might Mouse will work fine.
USB overdrive usefully allows you to assign the same mouse click to do different things in different programs.

Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

My friend has a palm treo 680 and we used it to record some stuff today, but he cannot figure out how to get it to his computer.
Is this possible? If so, any help would be great because I really would like to get this to my computer.

With my TX, there was the option to "Copy to card" for voice memos (older version of the Voice Memo program that I copied to it).
On my Centro, there is the option for sending the voice memo either by BlueTooth, Email, or SMS. Does the 680 have either of these?

That is a very good warning provided by the Download Statusbar extension. Something like that should been built into Firefox. I filed this Bug report a couple of years ago, about the lack of a warning like that. <br />

DO you mean, how to put a Library on an external?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Select you device from the left sidebar of iTunes and navigate to the Photos tab at the top. Do you have the Sync Photos With checkbox checked and set to iPhoto?

Hi Mark, my problem is very similar. I have registered myself as Service Provider at the OCP member-only page, after it I have created my account on the ePeople site where I registered my certifications, but the status is "Pending".
Does anybody know what to do?

You must be referring to OS X 10.6.4, because there is no iTunes version 10.6.4. You can download iTunes 10.6.3 here:

Any reason why you have not updated to OS X 10.6.8? If you did, you could then run iTunes 11.0.1.

You do not mention what version of iMovie you are using, so I will assume it is the same as mine, iMovie '11, version 9.0.8
When you launch iMovie you should see, just above the Event Library, a camera icon. Click that.
Once you click it you will see a new window labeled "Import From: Built-in iSight." In the bottom right corner there will be a button labeled "Capture." Use that when you are ready to capture your video.

Hmmm... Submit button doesn't need a double click at all. Maybe you are talking about the two-step process? When you click on Submit, the feedback appears with the message to click anywhere or press Y. Is that what you are talking about? If you are talking about a real double-click, something must be wrong in your file. And which version are you using?
