How do you get iTunes to look at songs on only one drive?

I have my main music on the C: drive and a backup on the G: drive. I only want it to see the music on the C: drive.

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How do you get ITunes to STOP automatically scanning my hard drives?

    How do you get ITunes to STOP automatically scanning my hard drives for files? I have a number of audio and video files located all over my computer. However, my music folder is located in one place. I only want ITunes to look there to ad music to my IPod? I don't want to add any videos to my IPod however, it automatically scans for this as well. Infact... I don't want ITunes to automatically scan for anything. Why is this doing this?

    You can configure iTunes to sync only a subset of your music. Create a playlist in iTunes of the music you want on the iPod, and change the iPod sync settings. More info is here.

    How do you get Itunes to go to the free radio station list, I'm not talking about the one that lists the price next to the song that's playing, I'm talking about the one that gives you 50 diffrent genes to select from?

    This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
    But answering quickly, if you mean the streaming stations, click the Internet item:
    If you don't see that item, checkmark "Internet Radio" in the General preferences in iTunes.

  • How do you get iTunes purchased songs to automatically play one after the other

    How do you get iTunes purchased songs to play automatically one after the other without having to hit play for each song ? Also I lost all my pictures on my iPad when I installed iOS 7 upgrade. Any way to get them back? Thanks. Dr Ron.

    Hi Dr. Ron,
    By your question, I am wondering if you are playing your music from the iTunes app rather than the Music app?
    In the Music App, you can go to any of the options at the bottom and click on a song to play and it will then continue to play the songs in that category. You can also select "Shuffle" to shuffle them.
    As for your Photos, did you have them backed up anywhere?
    Cheers,

  • How do you get Itunes to sync an album that exists only on the iPad?

    Easy enough to sync iTunes albums to the iPad, but how about albums that currently exist only on the iPad? How do you get iTunes to import photo albums it doesn't currently know about? For example I have an app that saves it's files to an album called 'Saved'. I want iTunes to make a local computer copy during 'sync'. I was transferring files from the iPad to the computer via WiFi, but at least on my iPad, WiFi is extremely unreliable, often dropping the connection during data transfers. I finally gave up and decided to do this via USB until Apple gets their act together.

    Easy enough to sync iTunes albums to the iPad, but how about albums that currently exist only on the iPad?
    If you are transferring photos from iPhoto on your Mac, you mean the iPhoto albums that are available to select under the Photos tab for your iPad sync preferences? if so, this is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPad.
    iTunes does not handle the import of photos from your iPad, which can include photos imported from a digital camera or from a digital camera's storage card with the Camera Connection Kit, or a photo saved from a received email, from a website, or by a 3rd party app that is capable of saving a photo in the same location.
    It sounds like the app developer has allowed for transferring photos saved by the app in the app's "Saved" area to your computer via an available wi-fi network that both your computer and iPad are connected to. Unless the app developer allows for saving the photos from the app's "Saved" area to the same location where a photo saved from a received email or from a website is stored, there is no way to import these photos via iPhoto or the Image Capture application on your Mac, which is used for importing photos, not iTunes.

    Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

  • How can you get a compilation album to show up as one album rather than be split up but song and artist?

    how can you get a compilation album to show up as one album rather than be split up by song and artist? I've got loads of albums on iTunes that are compliations and they are all mixed up by track/ artist. Even when you click 'show album' it still just shows the album title and then the artist in alphabetical order - so the album is replicated several times
    Can anyone tell me how to amalgamate compliation albums please?

  • How do I get iTunes to look for music on my computer

    Here's the problem: So on my old HP laptop I had around 5500 song files saved/stored in various locations all compiled for easy access through iTunes, as in I could access all of them there; standard, no problems, what everyone expects.
    On it's last limb I completely backed the computer's C drive contents to an external harddrive. What I didn't expect was that there would be no organizational structure of the backup: merely 3 folders each containing a series of ~50-300 subfolders of backed up content (zipped, at that time, mind you). Around 88 GB in all, which is interesting because it was 140GB in size on the hp before being backed up.
    Towards the process of unzipping all of them, I unzipped only the very first sub folder which contained around 50 song files (this isn't to say each folder just has songs; there's tons of other random files ranging from documents to programs to random coding) before opening iTunes for the first time.
    This part is critical to understanding my issue. When I opened iTunes for the very first time and it was initializing its components, doing a startup etc., I had only unzipped that one folder; none of the hundreds of others had yet been unloaded onto my mac's harddrive and viewable as downloads.
    During the guided installation process iTunes prompted me at one point and asked if it wanted to "search for music already on this computer" or something like that. I said yes and it seamlessly uploaded the 50 or so songs.
    The problem is I wish I had waited until I unziped everything because I don't know how to access that feature again, in that I do not want to manually dig through each download folder and upload songs individually when I know there's a feature that can look through my computer's hard drive for me and upload mp3 and similar files in a fraction on an instant. For example, when I downloaded and opened Spotify, it did this on it's own (although it included a bunch of duplicate files so there's around 7700). Some may question why I don't just use Spotify for my library then and I'd respond by saying I don't like it, I'm not used to it, and iTunes is more compatible/easier to customize, create playlists, sync with iPhone, iPod, etc.
    I've even tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes (using this method: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4045) to no avail; once I opened it again for the first time after reinstallation it already has included only those ~50 songs and doesn't prompt that "search for music on this computer" feature or whatever. I actually think that feature accompanied my mac as a startup, when I started the computer for the first time from factory settings.
    I'm hesitant to completely wipe my computer because one, I've already been using it for a couple weeks and don't want to do another back up (I'm not very mac savvy if you can't already tell) and two I don't even know if that will work.
    I want all my songs from my computer all accessible to one area: iTunes. Please help!

    In itunes preferences, Advanced make sure the two following options are checked
    Keep Itunes Media Folder organised
    Copy files to itunes Media folder when adding to library
    The box above that should have your iTunes Media folder path
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/itunes Media.
    If you still have the original 50 songs on your harddrive delete them form itunes. Then drag your external Hard Drive icon into itunes  and it should identify and copy all your music files to your new machines.
    Check that everything is there then you can do a freah backup to the external drive with everything in its correct folder

  • How do you get iTunes to list JUST broken or dead links?

    I would like to know how to get iTunes to show just broken links (aka Dead Links) much like how you can select it to show just duplicate songs/links
    My Internal Harddrive (HD) had a glitch afew weeks ago and I had to reformat and reinstall. Before any of that happened tho I had made a complete backup copy of the "My Music" folder (Which included the iTunes folder with its database and everything else) to a external HD.
    After getting the interal HD back up and running, I just copied everything within the "My Music" folder off the external and into the "My Music" folder on my Internal C Drive. During the copy process is when I found out that whatever glitch had happened had also affeced some of the MP3 files I had backed up on the external. Windows was able to copy all of the iTunes folder with its database and half of the MP3's The other half it couldn't tho.
    Now when I open iTunes being that the database was copied over and all songs that were recovered are exactly where they were before they show up I have no problems there. But the songs that were not recovered are listed in the iTunes Library, just has broken links tho since they do not exist anymore.
    It would make things ALOT easier if I could just get iTunes to show only the broken links. This would make a PERFECT list of all the songs I have missing. I could then know exactly which songs I need to rip again using iTunes or download so I can point these dead links to files and finish updating my iPod.
      Windows XP

    OK I have finally got this question somewhat answered, I went and used the Javascript at http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/FindDeadTracks.txt the first time, followed the rules of using "Save as" and changing the .txt at the end to .js and got errors running it.
    The Second time tho, instead of just using "save as" I realized the first lines of this text are not code but just directions. Someone might know of a shorter way of doing this but I Highlighted only the code itsself and saved that (Example Below):
    /* Rename me to FindDeadTracks.js
    Double Click in Explorer to run
    Script by Otto - http://ottodestruct.com */
    var ITTrackKindFile = 1;
    var iTunesApp = WScript.CreateObject("iTunes.Application");
    var deletedTracks = 0;
    I just skipped the "Rename me to ........" Highlighted "var ITTrackKindFile " And everything below it. After saving this and running it, The script opened iTunes poped up how many dead tracks it found in a pop up window and (Without saying) had made a Text File of all the songs that were dead tracks in the "My Documents" Folder.

  • How do you get Itunes to have control in the tray when you minimize

    A little while ago, before i messed around with some of my computer settings, i was able to control Itunes while it was minimized so instead of having a button for itunes it was a play and two skip buttons on the bottom, how do i get my itunes to do this again

    You can get a taskbar toolbar by right clicking anywhere on your taskbar. Select toolbars and put a check mark next to iTunes. Then, in iTunes Preferences: iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Advanced Make sure the box Minimize iTunes to the System Tray is UNCHECKED.
    Now when you minimize iTunes you'll get the toolbar.
