How do you get movies on an external HD onto your iPad?

We are considering the purchase of and iPad2, however, we have a plethora of movies on an external hard drive that we would like to watch on the iPad2.  Can it be done? And if yes, how?
Thanks

If they are in a supported format then you can add them to your computer's iTunes and then sync them over to the iPad - the video formats that are suppored by the iPad are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
If you can't get them into iTunes then you can probably use something such as Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr) to convert them. If you can get them into iTunes but not onto the iPad (not all formats that are supported by iTunes are supported by the iPad), then Advanced > Create iPad Version in iTunes might create a version that can then be synced to the iPad.

How do you get mailboxes set up on Bt yahoo in safari onto your apple e.mail app?

When you say Mailboxes, do you mean actual folders or the overall setting up of Yahoo mail on iPad?  If overall setup then when you select Mail it should show some email suppliers, I believe Yahoo should be listed, if you select it, it should then ask for you details.
If you mean folders, if Yahoo is IMAP based if you create folders online via webmail, they should pull through to your iPad when the account has been set up.
Alternatively, if you have got mail up and running on your iPad and want a new folder, just select your account under the Accounts heading in Mail you should see a list of all the folders present, click EDIT in at the top of the screen, just to the right of where it is likely to say either Yahoo or BT and it will then give you the option to add a mailbox(FOLDER) at the bottom of the screen.

  • How do you get movies off one itunes library, and into another.

I recently bought a dvd, and it had a free download for itunes to i uploaded it. On a different user, on the same computer, i have another itunes library in which i have all my music. It didn't transfer this purchase, and is there i way i can get the file into my itunes library?

Open your other library, go to File>Add to library and navigate to the folder containing the files you want to add. Once they are in your new library delete them from the other library making sure that when you get the prompt to move them to trash say no. You should also back your purchases up to disc or to an external drive so you don't lose them of anything happens to your hard drive:

  • How do you get songs on an Ipod touch from your previous one?

My Ipod touch recently had a glitch that completely messed it up. As a result, I went to get another one. Typically, when we sync our ipods to the computer, everything that you've changed on the ipod is saved onto the computer as well. However, I had purchased about 15-20 songs on my Ipod touch and added about 6 or 7 new apps before it started to mess up on me, but I never had the chance to sync it in to the computer. So I'm wondering if there is a way for me to reclaim the songs that I've purchased because--well, because I've purchased them and I really do not want to pay for them again. If anyone has a legit answer, I'd really appreciate it if you posted a response!
    Thank you! =]

Here's a short and simple on the legit way since I actually had this happen to me as well.
Open iTunes, and go to the store. At the top right corner should be your iTunes login name (or "Log In"). Either way, click it and it will ask you to log in.
Once you log in (or re login), you should be brought to your account. Somewhere in the middle is an option to view purchase history. Click that.
Once it's open, it should pull up all your purchases (grouped somehow...I think by day?). Find the purchases you're looking for. And click the arrow to pull up the order (for multiple orders, you're going to do this a couple times).
The order should pull up with ALL purchases associated with that order. At the bottom is a button to report a problem.
When you click it, all items should now show a link that says "Report a Problem". For each item, click the link.
A new page will display with a drop down menu and a comments box. Pick the option "I didn't Receive this Song" and note that it was purchased with an iPod Touch that was unable to transfer to back to iTunes. Submit, and repeat for all SONGS.
For all your apps, find the apps you need to download, and iTunes will automatically allow free redownloads, which means you DON'T need to report a problem. When you finished reporting the problem, check your email box because you'll be spammed by the Apple Auto-Responses that an Apple Associate will take care of the problem. In several hours (or overnight), you'll receive a response from said Apple Associate (it will say the same thing all the time, practically automated) apologizing for you not receiving the songs. They will credit your account and you can "repurchase" that song (since you will technically receive a "gift card" on your account of 1.29 per song). That should solve your problem.

  • How do I copy photos from an external disk onto an ipad

When synchronizing using iTunes, either you get events you can select from iPhoto on our Mac, or, you can select photos from a folder on an external dirve attached to our Mac.  What we cannot seem to do is get both events we can select from iPhoto on our Mac and photos we select from a folder on an external dirve attached to or Mac.
      How do we get both?

You have to use itunes on your laptop, import the photos into itunes, and then sync to the ipad.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • How do I get the music from my iPod onto my iPad?

How do I get my iPod music onto my ipad2?

One has to assume the music on your iPod is in your iTunes music library?  From there, it's simple.  Simply connect your iPad to iTunes, and after it synchs (you can cancel the synch if you don't want to synch), then click on the iPad on the left hand side.  Your device will be up on the screen.  Click on music and check which music you want to synch to your iPad, then synch and your music will be there.......

  • How do you open a PDF using Adobe Reader on your IPad in IBook?

How do you open a PDF File using Adobe Reader on your IPad When in IBook?

You can't. When you're in most of the PDF readers, the Share button gives you the option of Open In another app. But iBooks does not.
You need to add your PDFs through the iTunes method which Alec wrote about here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1040579?tstart=0
Or you can use another way of transferring your PDF to the iPad, like Dropbox. You install the Dropbox app on your iPad and copy your PDF from Dropbox (cloud application). It opens in Dropbox app and you use the Share icon to move it into Reader.

  • HT1349 I have an iPad (1).  Connected a camera connection kit, then inserted a SDHC card.  Nothing happened.  How do I get the photos off the card onto the iPad?

I have an iPad (1).  Trying to load photos.  Connected a camera kit, inserted an SDHC card with photos.  Nothing....  How do I get the photos loaded onto the iPad?

    rSH8745-
At first glance, your iPad should have reacted to the presence of the SDHC card.
Are you sure the card is SDHC and not SDXC?  I do not think the newer XC format is compatible with the SD adapter in the Camera Connection Kit.
How did the photos get on the card?  The iPad expects them to be in the same format as if they had been stored there by the camera.  They should be in a folder named DCIS.  Their file names should have 8 characters plus suffix.
Have you tried connecting the camera's USB cable to the USB adapter in the Camera Connection Kit?

  • How do I get a Numbers v'09 Doc onto my iPad?

I created a Numbers document on my MacPro using version '09. I want it to show up on my iPad, using the iOS Numbers app (latest version installed). When I start the Numbers app on the iPad, hit the "+" button, window drops down to select from iTunes, iDisk, WebDAV. I transferred the Numbers document to my iDisk, but this does not work for the iPad. document is grayed out. I do not have a WebDAV address.
So, I went to iCloud on my desktop, selected iWork, selected the gear to upload the Numbers document, try to upload the Numbers document and I get this message: "File format not supported. Supported formats include Numbers '09..."
But, I am using Numbers '09 on my desktop.
Anyone have a way to transfer my Numbers document to my iPad (or iPhone for that matter)?

That's true, but that's also not the way iOS works. You don't access a file in B's sandbox from A but, instead, you select a file in B's sandbox to open in A's.
Moding is generally the same for all situations: With the file selected tap and hold it and see if you get an "Open In ....." splashscreen menu pop up and, if so, if Numbers might be one of the selections. If it is, great, you're in luck; if it isn't, not much you can do about it except provide feedback to Apple and/or the developers asking them to provide that capability.

What cable do I need to link my iPod to my iPad (retina display)

If the content is already on the computer that you sync the iPad to then as long as his account is authorised on it (via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option) then you should be able to sync it to the iPad in the same way that it was synced to the iPod (syncing music).
If the music isn't yet in that computer's iTunes then you can copy it over to it : copying music.

    You don't.
