How do you guys like your GFX5900XT's???

Hey im in the market for a new computer and Ive been searching around for a good video card for the money.   Well i came across PCSTATS review of the MSI
FX5900XT.
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1543
It blew me away that a card priced less than half could overclock so high and reach 5950 Ultra like speeds while still being stable.
I came here to ask how you guys find your 5900XTs and what (if any) overclocking issues you may have.  Is it really that good?
Thanks

I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MINE AND CAN' :angryfire:T MONITOR TEMPERATURA
FAN RPM AND VOLTS
BUT HAVE VERY GOOD RESULTS IN BENCHMARKS

  • How are you guys powering your laptops in your cars ???

    Hi guys,
      Although I have been using computers since the first pc appeared, I only recently decided to get a laptop.  I got a Lenovo B560 and have been absolutely delighted with it.
     However, I am perplexed at the fact that there does not seem to be any easy options for using the laptop in the car on long trips etc ?  I do not see any type of 12 volt adapter listed in the accessories ??  A google search shows a few "generic" brand power converters but I have always been leary of using anything but oem type equipment.
     Anyway, how are you guys powering your machines while mobile ??
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Your tip size is 2.5mm x 5.5mm,  19volts, and your current adapter is 90watts, right?
    Your tip size is the same as what is in the y450, y460, y550p, y550, y560, and the y730.
    The y730 is listed under the adapter listed above as taking the 4R 4319 tip, which is the same size as yours.
    The tip, Pt. # 46 4319 is listed as an optional tip for the ultraslim adapter, Pt. #4IN8460, that tip has to be ordered separately from the adapter, it doesn't come with it.
    Scroll to the bottom of the link for the adapter and you'll see the listing for the 19 volt tip, pt. #4R 4319.
    All this is assuming that you have integrated graphics.

  • How do you guys upgrade the DDL of your apps?

    This is to start a brainstorming discussion, just like the one you would have between DBAs and developers around the watercooler...
    I am considering revamping the way DDL upgrades are done in-house.  I was wondering how you guys go about doing that, whether you are an Independent Software Vendor or the developer for an in-house application.
    if you're an ISV, how do you supply and implement new versions of your DDL to your customers?
    if you are responsible for the development/maintenance of an in-house application, how do you carry out your DDL upgrades?
    I would like your responses to be around the methods and the tools you use to upgrade the SQL code (mainly the DDL) of your applications.
    Looking forward to everyone's input.

    In a modern application, a developer should seriously consider Edition Based Redefinition (EBR) - a feature (comes with the database)  every customer has since 11g R2.  With EBR, have the ability to install new versions of your code (plsql, triggers, views, synonyms -etc) in the database without impacting (blocking, locking, overwriting) the existing version.  So you can install version 2 of your application while version 1 is still running.
    Additionally - taking it a step further - if you put editioning views in place (a special kind of view that allows you to only select from a single table, no where clause, just a select list - sort of like a synonym with a select list), you can achieve many online DDL upgrades as well.
    for example, let's say you wanted to add a new index to a table, change the format of an existing column from number to varchar2 (to allow for alpha-numeric values in the future) and drop an existing column that is no longer needed - you could (assuming the editioning views are in place):
    a) create a new edition as a child of an existing edition.  It'll be as if you copied all of your code/synonyms/etc - you haven't, but it will feel like it
    b) add a new column of type varchar2. (this column will NOT be visible to version 1 at all in any way)
    c) put in place a forward edition trigger that will take any modification of the existing number column and reflect it in the new varchar2 column
    d) use dbms_parallel_execute to update the existing number column to itself ,this update can commit every 100 rows or so (no locking issues really) and will cause the new varchar2 column to be populated for all existing rows.  any new rows added by version 1 of the application will automagically be reflected
    e) in version 2, create a new editioning view that selects out the right columns from the table (don't select the number, select the varchar2 and alias it as the old column name if you want)
    f) put your new plsql/synonyms/grants whatever in place in version2
    g) create an invisible index on the table you wanted to index - you can do this online.  the index will be invisible so it won't affect ANY existing query plans (you haven't tested the old sql with it - you just know that version 2 likes having it)
    Now version 1 is running and version 2 is ready to go.  Easiest way to roll out would be to schedule a tiny maintenance window - alter the databases default edition to version 2, make the index visible and restart your app servers.  the are now running version 2
    a) drop/set unused the old number column
    b) get rid of the forward edition trigger

    Hi,
    how would you guys block portable Apps like Skype,firefox,Kproxy and gtalk etc etc ?
    it just runs from USB / Local HDD .
     obviously I could just block all USB ports but is there a better way?

    Hi,
    Preventing users from running portable applications can be done through:
    Configuring specific User Account Control Settings
    Software Restriction Policies
    AppLocker
    More information, please check this similar thread:

  • How do you guys work around this trivial situation?

    Hi,
    I'm using GlassFish v2 and JSF 1.2.
    Since JSP can be run using the direct url of the JSP page and the JSF pages require some prefix like "/faces/" how do you guys deal with situations
    when somebody accesses the direct link of the JSF (that means without typing "faces/") ? - I noticed that GlassFish throws an error in this case which must be addressed I think.
    Any hint or constructive comment would be highly appreciated. Or is this an open problem when using JSF?

    Well thank you a lot, I did more googling before finding your second reply and found some info about filters, I will check your links as well and
    see if I can polish my solution based on your links.
    For those who might look for solving the same issue:
    I added to web.xml this (my faces are prefixed with "/fx" rather than "/faces", a matter of taste):
    <filter>
              <filter-name>JsfFilter</filter-name>
              <filter-class>xlinuks.JsfFilter</filter-class>
              <init-param>
                   <param-name>search_token</param-name>
                   <param-value>.jsp</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
                   <param-name>add_token</param-name>
                   <param-value>/fx</param-value>
              </init-param>
         </filter>
         <filter-mapping>
              <filter-name>JsfFilter</filter-name>
              <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
         </filter-mapping>And the filter itself is this:
    package xlinuks;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class JsfFilter implements Filter {
         private FilterConfig filterConfig;
         private String sSearchToken, sAddToken;
         public void doFilter( ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain ) throws ServletException, IOException {
              HttpServletRequest httpReq = (HttpServletRequest) request;
              String sUri = httpReq.getRequestURI();
              if( (sAddToken == null) || (sSearchToken == null) ) {
                   chain.doFilter( request, response );
                   return;
              int iIndex = sUri.indexOf( sSearchToken );
              if( (iIndex > -1) && (sUri.indexOf( sAddToken ) < 0) ) {
                   sUri = sAddToken + sUri.substring( sUri.lastIndexOf( "/" ) );
                   filterConfig.getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(sUri).forward(request, response);
                   return;
              } else {
                   chain.doFilter(request, response);
         public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {
              this.filterConfig = filterConfig;
              sSearchToken = filterConfig.getInitParameter( "search_token" );
              sAddToken = filterConfig.getInitParameter( "add_token" );
         public void destroy() {
              filterConfig = null;
    }

  • Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y'a

    Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y’all
    I wanted to know how I could record different folders using iTunes
    Cause when recorded 2000 thongs on the DVD
    There were 2000 songs to go through
    So I really wanted to have had folders and then the music recorded inside them
    So I could get right to where I wanted real quickly
    Could anyone please teach me how to do that real quickly?
    Can we do it with iTunes?
    I know we can do it with Nero.

    1) Go to file, select new playlist. Creat the playlaist.
    2) Download your music into iTunes.
    NOTE: CHECK 'Recently Added' before you download your music.
    If the select boxes has a check in them, turn it off by
    holding down the 'ctrl' key and selecting one of the
    checked boxes. This shold turn off all the checks.
    It would be better to clear 'Resently Add' of all
    previous downloads, but I don't know how to do that
    yet.
    3) under 'PLAYLIST' on the right, select 'Recently Add'.
    all of your song should show there with a check in the selection
    box.
    4)Hold the shift key and select the frist (selete records name),
    then the last recorded tune. All of the recordings shouls light
    up blue.
    5) While holding the 'shift' key, drag one of the records to your new
    playlist. All of the blue highlighted song will transfer to the new
    playlist.

  • Security flaw update - how do you know if your iPad and iMac are compromised/hacked?

    Can anyone explain how one might know if their iPad or iMac running Mountain Lion has been Hacked.
    I always use my wifi at home which is locked.
    On my iPad,
    messages popped up two days ago that the password for my apple    me.com account was wrong. When I tried to rectify that, I ended up with Apple freezing the account.  I checked the software and it says it is up to date.
    On my iMac
    On Friday and Saturday, messages intermittently popped up about certificates for one of my email accounts on their outbound server (GoDaddy but not Time Warner). On Saturday, I installed the latest update, but I am still getting the certificate message for the GoDaddy email,
    Does this mean I was already hacked?
    Is there anything else I should do?
    Thank you.

    Sounds like your Apple ID may have been hacked. If it gets hacked, it's entirely possible for the hacker to take control away from you entirely, by changing the password, recovery e-mail and security questions, or even enabling two-factor authentication. If they have done the latter, you'll never see your Apple ID again, as Apple absolutely will not assist in recovering an account that has had two-factor authentication enabled.
    Since you're unable to log in at this point, you'll need to contact Apple. However, keep in mind that they may not be able to help you. There's very little proof that you own an Apple ID other than the information that the hacker could have changed by now. Still, Apple is the only one who can help with this.
    Regarding the GoDaddy e-mail certificate, that's harder to say anything about. You'll probably want to contact GoDaddy support about that one. It's likely to be an issue on their end - perhaps an expired certificate, or a certificate that was compromised and has now been revoked, or a simple configuration issue.
    None of this is likely to be related to malware.

  • Where do you guys get your clients? I need side jobs

    Sorry if off topic. I use premiere cs4 and AE. I work for a non-profit org so all my work is for them. I would like to start doing small projects outside of work. I placed ads on craigslist but all i seem to get is spam replys. production hub seems slow. How do you guys put yourself out there? I don't really have any connections.

    The MOD's will probably move this to the Video Lounge, as that is the proper place for it, so watch in case it "disappears."
    In my case, most of my clients come either from my still client-base, or via word of mouth. Many of the latter seem to come from my circle of "friends," and from people related to my social endeavors, i.e. networking.
    One possibility would be to offer to do pro-bono editing for other not-for-profit groups. With permission, add full credits, including contact info. I sit on a few charity boards and we often do some major AV productions for the events. As these involve much more than just editing, and I also have a full "dance card," we use some pro-bono (in kind donations) productions. All of our printed materials have full credits to the production houses, and we ask that each do a full credit portion. For materials that we hand out at the events, or use in pre-event promotion, we ask that those production houses put their credits on the printed discs. This obviously helps us (pro-bono production), so we want to help them. I will also donate editing time, where appropriate, to those suppliers, should they need additional work.
    Back when I was shopping my portfolio more actively, I donated my services to organizations like the Denver Art Directors Club, and the Denver Ad Federation. I picked up dozens of clients from the donated projects. It also gave AD's and Creative Directors an opportunity to work with me on the pro-bono projects, so that they knew my capabilities and personality - at no charge to them.
    Lot of good comes from doing a "favor" under the right circumstances.
    Good luck, and look for this to go to the Lounge.
    Hunt
    [Edit] I see that the MOD's DID move the thread to the Lounge. This is where I would have put it too. Hope that the OP finds it here. If they saw any of the early replies, should not be an issue.

  • How did you set up your spouses account?

    How did you set up your spouses iOS device, iCloud account, etc?  And what do you recommend?
    My wife and I have one iMac we share (with two login accounts - so basically two computers), an iPad, and two iPhones.  Since there are certain things we really like to share between accounts (PhotoStream, Find My iPhone, Documents/iCloud Drive), we've shared the same master iCloud account for the last few years.  This has had some drawbacks with things we *don't* want to share, such as we now have to sync our Safari bookmarks, and our keychain/logins for personal websites sometimes overlap, or the "Recent Contacts" shows the last people my wife contacted, not mine, etc.
    The pros have outweighed the cons, but it has always left me wanting.
    And now that things have changed a bit with iOS 8 and iCloud Drive, Handoff, and Family Plan. I figured now would be a good time to revisit our setup and what would work best for our family.  (Of course, this might be a bit premature, with the looming new Photos App from Apple coming, that might make us buy storage in iCloud, but if you have any forethoughts into that, I'd appreciate hearing them!)

    You may wish to look at alternatives to sharing the items you've been sharing. For example, you could use shared streams instead of my photo stream, in many ways it might be better, that way you share selected items rather than everything. You really don't need to share Find my phone, you can still use find my phone to find a device associated with any account if you sign in with that account, if you want to see where someone is find friends is a much better choice. You can also share links to iWork documents using iCloud document by document.

  • How do you guys do remote access?

    Hi All,
    I have a customer with a MAC at both office and home.  When she is a home she would like to remote into her work computer (okay'ed by her boss) to work on various things (she is a graphics artist).
    How do you guys do remote access?  Do you have anything like Linux's XRDP?
    What ports and what protocol (TCP, UDP) do you use?
    Many thanks,
    -T

    So  something like Goodreader or Dropbox would work...if the files are *.doc's you could use Quick Office Pro HD to edit  them. An iPad probably isn't the place to do complicated edits, however...either of these apps will allow a file local to the iOS device to be stored, then sent to another app such as Quick Office Pro HD...or you could also have the files stored in an email folder in say, Outlook, and then have that folder sync to the iOS device OTA with the iOS Exchange client...

  • How do you know if your Iphone app is connecting to the internet?

    I'm a brand new Iphone user and I have a question about apps.  I only have the smallest data plan.  I'm wondering how do you know if your app (or any app you download) once opened connects to the internet?
    For instance I have a Netflix subscription.  When I hit the Netflix app is that connecting to the internet?  When I watch a movie or tv in my own que is that still on the internet?
    Or what about the Kindle app or iBooks?  Is it on the internet to read?
    Those are just two small examples.  I'm having a hard time figuring out which apps to download based on if they connect to the internet for their use.

    As a general rule, if the app stores all of its data locally on your phone, a data connection is not needed for that app to function properly. If the app does not store data locally on your phone...streaming apps(Netflix), the built in Maps app, etc., a data connection will be required for the app to function properly. You can minimize your cellular data usage by only using such apps when connected to available WiFi. You also have the ability to turn cellular data completely off in settings: Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data>Off. Best to completely read an apps description before installing such on your phone. If a data connection is required for the app to function, it will state such in the app's description.
