How do you identify mail in the junk folder as "not junk"?

I came across this answer on the Apple support site:
Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button in the Mail toolbar.
Unfortunately, I don't see "not junk" in the banner of the message (not entirely sure what a "banner" is, but I'm looking everywhere) or a thumbs up button on any toolbar.

CTS wrote:
I do not see that option. The messages in my junk folder do not have those buttons on them.
Then they weren't marked as Junk by Mail.
Things can end up in your Junk folder in one of three ways:
1) Mail's junk filter reviews the message and determines it is junk. It then marks it as junk and moves it into the Junk folder (if prefs set to do so).
2) An email server marks the message with spam headers because it thinks it is spam. Mail will move those messages to Junk if you have the prefs set to trust junk mail headers. It does not mark those as Junk because it doesn't know why they have the headers set, just that they do.
3) Your email provider has moved the message to the Spam folder on the server and you are using IMAP (or other server-based account). Again, Mail will not mark those as Junk as Mail did not make the determination that they were Junk.

  • How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?

How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?
I have been using iPhoto since iLife'05 and have always upgraded with each iteration of iLife. Without exception, I had just recently upgraded to iPhoto'11 when iLife'11 came out. Because I have used iPhoto to store all my photos and videos taken over the last 5 years or so, my iPhoto folder/file has become bigger and bigger over time and so I moved it to an external hard-drive. My main iPhoto'11 folder/file has 14,367 photos, 995 videos and is indicated to be 83 GB by iPhoto'11. But "Get Info" in Finder reports a whopping 130 GB.
I started to think that this is getting a little crazy and I had wanted to better manage my photo collection, so I decided to "divide and conquer" this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file into several smaller, more manageable sized ones. So I made a duplicate copy of this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file onto another external hard-drive, fire-up iPhoto'11 again to delete away almost 80% of the photos and 90% of the videos. Now, my "slimmed-down" iPhoto folder/file has 3,000 photos, 75 videos and is indicated to be 6.8 GB by iPhoto'11. But despite the new "slimmed-down" status, the "Get Info" in Finder reports a still very huge 44 GB. Where did all those bulk come from? I have emptied both the iPhoto'11 Trash Can and Mac OS X Trash Can and these steps did not seemed to change anything at all.
Therefore, I wanted to see what the "Get Info" in Finder will report if I were to delete 99.99% of the photos and video to leave just one (1) photo in iPhoto'11? Guess what is the result? My "One Photo experimental" iPhoto folder/file has 1 photo, 0 videos and is indicated to be 2 MB by iPhoto'11 yet the "Get Info" in Finder reports a mysterious 36.3 GB. There must be something hiding inside!
    Help! What can I do?

I went on to try trashing away some of the folders and files inside and found that I could actually do it quite neatly if I go by the year which the photos are taken. After a lot of trial and error working on duplicate copy of my iPhoto '11 library, I am able to do away with all the clutter within the library and still open it normally.
Now my 44GB obese iPhoto'11 library has been slimmed down to just a little over 7 GB (5 GB as reported by iPhoto'11) and I am just comfortable dealing with 2 GB of "don't-know-what-info" of clutter within the library.
Remember my "One Photo Experimental" iPhoto'11 library that was 36.3 GB? I managed to bring it down to the realistic 22 MB size. This size is still double that of a brand new iPhoto'11 library I created to import 1 photo. However, it sure beat having 36.3 GB of clutter.
So, now what I am gonna do is to "divide and conquer" the duplicate copies of my iPhoto'11 library into smaller sized ones according to their year. But I think I'll still keep the original bloated, gigantic 130 GB intact and continue to feed it with photos and videos until maybe it becomes 1 TB! Yikes!
Anyway, million thanks for your tip and I really appreciate it! Have a Happy holidays!

  • When I mark a mail in the junk folder as 'not junk', is there a way to have it automatically move to the inbox?

Apple Mail keeps putting good messages into the Junk folder. I mark them as 'not junk', but then they just sit there. It is really tedious to have to move them back to the inbox, and change the colour back to black. Is there any way to do this automatically?
I originally placed this question on the Snow Leopard group, but since then I have updated to Lion. I was hoping that Lion would have provided a solution, but it seems not. In the Snow Leopard group, somebody posted a script which apparently works in Snow Leopard, but I have no idea if it works in Lion, as there doesn't seem to be any way to load scripts.
    This is the script, anyway.
It was given to me by <Bernard Hills> but I don't know who wrote it.

OK, I've discovered how to access the library.
    It's here: http://techheavy.com/2011/07/access-the-user-library-folder-in-lion/
But I don't really want to try that script in case it screws something up. I know zero about scripting.

  • How can I move mail from the offline folder inbox to a local folder?

I have an IMAP account and my provider lost all but the last week of my emails. I still have them in the offline folder in Thunderbird so as long as I stay offline I can see the emails but I want to move them to local folders so I can go back online and sync the account without losing them all. How can I do this?

Ah! You are BRILLIANT!! Thank you so very very very much. Your solution worked PERFECTLY! I now have all the messages I had lost aside from the past two months as the only computer I still had the offline messages was two month out of date BUT losing two months is far better than losing 5 years. You are my new personal HERO! Honestly, I can't thank you enough. This was nightmare and you solved it simply, beautifully, and completely.

  • Does anyone know how to password protect Mail  from the applications folder

I know you can password protect with a screensaver, is that the only way?

That is simply because you have checked an option to remember the password. Open Mail preferences, click on the Accounts icon in the toolbar. In the dialog under your username you should see your password (not displayed.) Remove the password entry. From now on Mail will prompt for a password before attempting to fetch mail. This does not mask the Inbox in any way but it does prevent anyone from getting new mail without a password. There is no direct way to actually password protect the entire Inbox.
I'm still not clear as to why you need to do this or what specifically you want to accomplish. I don't know if simply logging out of your account when you aren't by the computer would not satisfy your security need or requiring a password to wake up the computer via the screensaver. Maybe you could explain things more to us.

  • How can you tag mail as junk on my iphone?

How can you tag mail as junk on my iphone?

If you have updated to iOS7, this is incorrect.
To mark and file your mail as junk on iPhone, do this:
When looking in your mailbox at the list of emails:
    1. Choose the email you wish to send to Junk (do not open it)
    2. Swipe it to the left.
You will see on the right 2 choices: Trash or More.
    3. Choose More
Now you will see the choice to move it to Junk.  When you do this it will create a Junk folder for that mailbox.

I did not have to delete and reinstall my email account.

  • How do you set mail to be left on the server.

When you receive mail on the iPhone how do you specify that you want the mail to be left on the server? That way you can also pick it up on your computer. This can be handy if a more detailed exchange is required. Thanks,

    Go to Settings > Mail.
    Select your POP account.
Select the Advanced button for the account settings.
Under Incoming Settings at Delete from server, the options are:
    Never
    Seven days
    When removed from Inbox
I believe the default setting when creating a POP account with the iPhone's Mail client is Never.

  • How do you disable the shortcut key in Mail that deletes all mail in the trash folder

Is there a way to disable the shortcut key in Mail in Mountain Lion that deletes all mail in the Trash folder in all accounts: <shift><command><delete> ?
I did it once by mistake and it deleted all my trash - it is very difficult to restore when there are thousands of messages in various emaiil accounts.
    Thanks

While you can't (so far as I know) remove it - you can assign a different (& less likely to be used accidentally) one via System Preferences - Keyboard - Shortcuts.
Go there, create a new one (or 2) for Mail only, and give it the exact name(s) if the menu item(s) in question, capitalisation & ... included.
Below is on 10.6, but the idea's the same

  • How to tag spam mails in iron port and foreword to junk folder?

How to tag spam mails in iron port and foreword to junk folder?

    As Dave has suggested.
Positively identified spam recommended actions would be to Drop it -- if you would like to review these emails and manually remove it, then send it to the spam quarantine
This can be changed under the GUI > Mail Policies > Click on Incoming or Outgoing mail Policies and edit the anti-spam settings per policy if needed.
Ideally suspected spam to be sent to the quarantine for further review.
If you do not wish to use a quarantine or drop the email, you can prepend the email as Dave also suggested and send it to the end recipient under [Suspected Spam] <Subject> for the end user to determine it.
However the IronPort will not make specific rules to deliver it to the MUA's Junk mail folder.
This type of setup is normally down to each specific end user to work with on their own MUA  (outlook, lotus, safari etc.)
    I hope this helps.

  • How do you handle multiple at the same address?

My wife just got an iMac. She is using the Birthday feature in Address Book and iCal to track our friends and family birthdays and anniversaries.
    Question:
How do you track it when multiple people are at the same address? For instance, our friends are a family of four, but they all live at the same address. Do you need to make a separate Address Book card for each of them, even the 1 year old baby? Or can you track multiple people in a single card with custom fields?
If you do need to make multiple cards, then how do you handle mailing lists? For instance, if I make separate cards for all four of them, how do I make sure I only send on Christmas card when I use my Mac to print labels?
    Thanks for any advice.

This is really an issue that you're going to have to resolve yourself since Apple's address book isn't really built with this in mind - darn it. For me there are three scenarios. First, a singleton. No problem. Second a family for which all members share the same information - acquantences to whom I don't send birthday greetings. These get one card and I'll put in both (or all) their names in the first name field (as in Bob and Jean). If there are children, in the last name field I'll add 'and Ken' or 'and the kids'. Third, a family for which some fields are different - perhaps cell phone number, birthday, etc.
For mailing purposes, I create a holiday group and put the people I'll be sending cards to into the group.
