How do you import maps like "Google Earth?"

Hi putting together a travel DVD and wanted to have maps of countries we had visited and then zoom in on smaller areas and towns. Anyone know a software package or web link for this? Cheers

If you are interested in adding motion, take a look at iShowU http://www.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html or Road Trip Effect http://www.solrobots.com/roadtrip/index.html
I've used Road Trip and it works fine. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done. The standard version is $9.95 USD. I've downloaded a demo version of iShowU, but have not used it. It's priced at $42 USD. I think you could use iShowU to capture the motion of a Google Earth "fly to" animation. It would certainly be less expensive than the high priced Google Earth option.

There are a number of tools for merging the files into one. Personally I don't bother, but you'll find links on my page which describes how to manage Audiobooks on iPods.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you import photos from a library on an external drive to the current library running in iPhoto?

How do you import photos from a library on an external drive to the current library running in iPhoto? I have a few different pictures in each library and would like to have all my pictures in both libraries. The library on the external drive is my backup. I would appreciate any help.

Depends on exactly what you want to do.
Just move some of the Photos? FIle -> Export from one and export the shots to the Finder. Then import them to the other.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Move the photos and all versions and metadata: use iPhoto Library Manager it's the only way to do this while preserving everything. Merge two Libraries into one?
If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • How do I import Map Info Tab files into Spatial for a map of europe?

How do I import Map Info Tab files into Spatial for a map of europe via FME and have oracle spatial draw the map without problems?
So far I've got to the stage where I can import the data, spatially index it (in oracle 9i) and get my SVG (scaleable vector graphics) application to view the map.
The problem is that countries that have more than one polygon (more than one row in the database) do not draw properly.
When I view the Map Info tab file in the FME viewer I can see that the data is fine, but I can also see that some of the polygons used to draw a country are donugts and some aren't.
This seems to cause a problem when I import the data into oracle spatial as I don't know if a row in the table needs to be inserted as an independent SDO_GEOMETRY or if it should form part of a larger SDO_GEOMETRY (as in 2 or more rows make up the polygon shape for a country).
I have a feeling that I'm not using FME correctly, because at the moment I have to import the tab file into Oracle then re-insert the data into a spatially formatted table (one with a spatial index) - I get the impression that FME should do that for me but as I'm new to this I don't really know.
    Any Help welcome :|
    Tim

    Tim,
MapInfo has a free utility called EasyLoader that allows you to upload a table directly to Oracle. EasyLoader creates the geometries and spatial index. You can download it free from http://www.mapinfo.com/products/download.cfm?ProductID=1044

  • How do you import copyright controlled cds into Itunes?

    Hi
how do you import copyright controlled cds into Itunes?
When i put the cd into my computer, Itunes does not read it like a regular cd. It does not show up in my source list.
I just want to put the songs on the cd onto my ipod.
The cd will play in windows media player and i was able to save the cd as wma files onto my computer, and then i tried to import those files, but Itunes says the file is copyright controlled, and the only way for itunes to import it is with the orignal cd? The original cd was in my D drive the whole time, but it still will not let me import.
I also tried physically looking into the CD for the music files, but those aren't there. The cd is like an enhanced cd where if you look into the drive for files there are no files except for 2 icons. The actual icon the open the player to play the cd and a uninstall icon.
does anyone know how to do this? PLEASE HELP!

I have downloaded the latest version of Itunes. I don't think that is the problem. Music companies have started issuing "copyright controlled" cds now especially on import versions of cds. I have the original cd, but Itunes cannot import it due to the copyright because it is protected. I read the "help" file on the cd, and what it does is you can play it as much as you like, you can make a copy of the cd only 3 times. The copy of the CD is also copyright protected. I have tried Itunes, WMA, Sonicstage, Sonic and etc programs, but nothing has worked.
Hopefully, someone from APPLE will now what I mean about the copyright controlled CDs. I only want to be able to listen to the music on my IPOD. Nothing has worked

  • How do you import motion 5 documents to FCPX?

how do you import motion 5 documents to FCPX?

Yes it is 64-bit.  I'm still getting used to that and have see it does make a difference.  I am at work at the moment so I cannot run the conversion utility, but that looks promising.
On a related/similar note, before work this AM. since the catalog conversion failed, I decided to try to import all my images.  They are sitting on an external hard drive.  The good news is that when I started the import, PE13 recognized the tags that were assigned in PE5.  That was very important to me.  .
So, it looks like I may have two feasible paths to follow:
    1.  Re-import all the images and re-use my tags
    2.  Run the 64-bit catalog conversion utility and import/restore my catalogs
I frankly cannot tell which option is easier, better or preferred.  My objective is to get back to an arrangement whereby I can view all my photos in the organizer (by catalog).  My catalogs are quite simple.  Most all images were in a base catalog.  I was running on a 2006 WinXp machine using PE5.  The catalog had ~ 30000 images.  It was bogging down when I'd scroll through the catalog.  I recently created catalog #2 for some special activities (I.e., Kids Sports) so that I could view and retrieve them easily.  I might have 1000 images in this catalog.
My preferred viewing is to see everything in one catalog, and use tags to segregate them for specific viewing/usage.  I suspect that has a performance impact.  Any thoughts on best approach?
    Thank You

  • How do you import off of a DVD???

If you already have a DVD, how do you import this into Premire CS3? We have a dozen football games that were recorded on a DVD camcorder and immediately put into the share station to finalize. We want to make a skills video for college coaches from these.

    > Hook a DVD player to the "in" of your mini DV camera and capture through firewire as usual. Very simple.
Simple and crappy and slow. In addition to the unnecessary D->A->D conversion (the quality of which will vary greatly depending on your DVD player, cables, and DV camera) and the fact that "real-time" (+ the setup time of cabling and hitting the play and recond buttons and all that) is the best performance you'll ever achieve ... there is the difference in chroma subsampling between the two formats:
1.) NTSC DV uses 4:1:1 subsampling, while DVD is 4:2:0. To look at this another way, NTSC DV has oblong 4x1 blocks of color while DVD uses 2x2 squares. By converting from one to the other, you will end up with 4x2 blocks -- a serious degradation of the color information.
2.) PAL DV, like DVD, uses 4:2:0 chroma -- but it sampled differently. I'm not exactly certain of what would occur during an analog transfer, but it is likely that the vertical color resolution would be further degraded. This is certainly true (or truer) when the DVD source is Upper Field First (DV being "lower", always). This would result in 2x4 chroma blocks.
Also, should the alignment of the video in the analog signal be slightly shifted (very likely) the resulting chroma information can be further screwed up.
DV is really not the nicest compression in the world and it should be avoided whenever possible -- especially for re-compression of another digital format.
When dealing with digital formats (whether it's audio, video or photos) it is always best to work with the original material and to sacrifice quality (when it must be sacrificed) at the latest possible stage.

  • HT1349 how do you import video to Aperture from a dvd with a unix executable file

how do you import video to Aperture or imovie from a dvd with a unix executable file?

Allan's suggestion of using the iDisk will work but will fill up the iDisk unless you do housecleaning occasionally. Another, non Apple way would be to upload them to an account on Twango.com. It sort of like MyTube but for photos and videos and is more personal in nature. It's free (monthly uploads are limited to 250MB/mo) and others can easily pop into your public channel (individual sections of a person's account are called channels) and download whatever size you want. You can select the size of your uploads from full sized to 1600, 1024 or 640 pixels max. What I like about the site is that you can email photos to your account. Makes it rather easy. You can also add slideshows and a ticker tape type of display from Twango to web pages (they create the code to use for the channel you select) like this. It's not an Apple thing but I've found it's quick. May or may not be what you're looking for.
    Do you Twango?

    Here you go Karsten:
    http://www.hunterspec.com/content/i-kam-xtreme®-video-eyewear-0
Looks like it records in AVI format at 25 fps. I think that should import to iMovie OK - if not it should import to iPhoto and then be available in the iMovie Events Library under "iPhoto Videos". Importing shouldn't be a problem based on this extract from the web page:
"The glasses can be hooked directly to a PC with the supplied USB cable to view the video, or when using the Micro SD card, it can be inserted into a card reader to watch footage."

  • How do you import music from an ipod to itunes?

How do you import music from an ipod to itunes?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to import music from iPod to iTunes. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.
