How do you input guitar in GarageBand on iMac

I've tried to input my guitar into GarageBand on my iMac, but have not been very successful. How can i do this?  I have iRig, and plug it into the back port, but that doesn't work.  I also have a USB Guitar Link that works with Amplitube 3 that is on the same iMac, but doesn't work with GarageBand.  I've tried changing the input choices under preferences, but no luck.  With the USB Guitar Link, the Audio Preferences menu gives me the choice of "USB Audio CODEC" and I choose that...but, that doesn't work either.  The ONLY thing that has worked is the "Built-In Microphone"...but that records everything in the room...and its of very low quality.  Any help is appreciated.

the iMac has separate input and output jacks, it does not work like your laptop's jack

You can install additional sound fonts, see GarageBand '11: Play Soundfonts in GarageBand
or install Jam Packs: If you buy (for a moderate fee) Mainstage 2 at the AppStore, this will install all five JamPacks, so that the loops and instruments can be used with GarageBand. This way you will get all Symphonie orchestra instruments, World Music, Rhythm Section and many more.

What info do you want to transfer and from which app(s) ? If it's contents/files of apps then for some it'll be via the File Sharing section at the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, other apps may have wifi functionality so you can transfer files to/from your computer via your wifi network.

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

AFAIK, you can't with the internal speakers. Contact Apple's Support, formerly Apple Express Lane, and see what they say.

There is a Ubuntu 10.4 version for Mac with PPC architecture; not sure
how that would work in the computer you may consider running it in.
Some leads on that kind of discussion can be found by using a Google
search, and the words: *ubuntu for PPC G4 Mac* + read through results.
Or choose to search using these terms: *Open Source Linux PPC G4 Mac*
A few results point back to Apple Discussions, where there were inquiries.
Note the version of a Linux-type of OS, compatible with Mac PPC hardware,
on the following page-link: *• Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS (Lucid Lynx)*
    http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/10.04/release/
{You would have to put the image, as downloaded from such a site, on a CD
    for use as an Installer; then follow any instructions as available to install it.}
An old page (from 2007?) with some details, some not up-to-date,
may be of help to a limited degree, from here: Ubuntu PPC wiki

These wiki groups are like communities, with rules & other such considerations; you
may be able to also find +Open Source+ sites with information and builds of suitable
Linux versions capable of running well in an older PPC Mac. There are newer ones
that would have no problem on a newer Intel-based Mac, of course.

    • Comparison of Linux distributions:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparisonof_Linuxdistributions
Hardware support in the older PPC G4 Mac computer should be considered, in order
to have the better experience possible with the Linux-based OS; and some specs in
an old Mac may not be ideal. The graphics processor unit and amount of dedicated
RAM for the graphics alone, could make a difference; depending on what you had in
mind when running a Linux-based OS in a PPC Mac. So consider hardware specs.
Some hardware in the computer may or may not be supported by the Software; and
then, there may be some problems implementing a Linux OS version in your Mac.
If you had an old Mac Mini (PPC or early Intel) & considered running Linux, there's
a page of general ideas worth a peek: http://sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/
You may not have enough room on the existing internal hard disk drive inside the
iMac G4, for a complete OS X 10.3.9 or Later OS X, and a partition for Linux in it.
And, you may find through reading further, if you need to (or don't) start fresh and
have a partition for each different OS, or not. For organizational purposes and ease
of removing one system or the other, a partitioned hard disk drive may be best.
There probably is a way to have Linux on an external bootable hard disk drive; &
that would have to be compatible with the Mac hardware requirements to be seen
and used by the computer, and also the ability to restart from Linux into Mac OS X
would have to exist in the system software. Hopefully without incident.
You will have some degree of a learning curve in this matter, from reading up on
the details of any viable Linux versions, through the ones likely to work in your
old PPC G4 Mac, and then if there are more than two or three good ones, of those
what one would be most likely to be worth the additional effort to attempt to use in it.
Depending on the version and specifications of your iMac G4 computer, there could
be different versions of linux systems capable of running it. However, some items
may not be supported which you would need to have working, such as wi-fi internet
and sleep mode, etc; among others. Searching the net does bring up more info.
{You may find, that going to OS X 10.4.11 would be more worth the effort, in that
most everything would 'just work' and you can still find many good software bits
and some fine freeware or low cost shareware to run on it. Linux versions vary
    so much on what they can and cannot do, I would not recommend running it.}
Since I am not an expert in the matter, hopefully someone with a experimental time
and results in a similar vintage Mac as yours will reply and give you insightful info.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Besides all of that, you can purchase Apple Care which will extend your warranty to 3 years just like you can on a brand new iMac.
If you're considering a "refurbished" iMac, buy it ONLY from Apple.  I believe it's your best bet.

    Hi,
Previously iChat had tried a Last Chat/IM option when using Saved Transcripts - which itself was an option.
iChat has also tried "Saving" the Last Chat by leaving a Chat window open and using something similar to the Lion method of showing an app in the state is was closed in.
In Messages the option to Save Transcripts has been removed and Chats or all types are saved as a matter of course.
What this tends to mean for your iChat style Buddy Chats is that it opens all the Transcripts  for that buddy as a sort of History you can scroll back through if you want  (I have  some Buddies with saved chats gong back to 2004)
With the Syncing of iMessages with iPhones and iPads (or Touches) then it seems this works slightly differently.
Although you can delete the chat and the contents of the Chat as separate action it is true that in the Beta as soon as you connect to the same Contact that the contents of the previous chats are shown to you.
I have found that Messages stores a data base of info on iMessages in Your Home Folder/Library/Messages
I have found that deleting this chat-db removes the "History" that keep popping up.
By default the Saved "iChats" are also stored in the Home Folder/Documents/iChats (At least this is the default place iChat used and they go to the same iChats folder where ever you had it)
Some people claim removing iMessages saved here stops the "History" reappearing.
In Lion the only access to the Home Folder/Library is via the Finder's Go Menu and hiding down the ALT key

  • Security flaw update - how do you know if your iPad and iMac are compromised/hacked?

Can anyone explain how one might know if their iPad or iMac running Mountain Lion has been Hacked.
I always use my wifi at home which is locked.
    On my iPad,
messages popped up two days ago that the password for my apple    me.com account was wrong. When I tried to rectify that, I ended up with Apple freezing the account.  I checked the software and it says it is up to date.
    On my iMac
On Friday and Saturday, messages intermittently popped up about certificates for one of my email accounts on their outbound server (GoDaddy but not Time Warner). On Saturday, I installed the latest update, but I am still getting the certificate message for the GoDaddy email,
Does this mean I was already hacked?
Is there anything else I should do?
    Thank you.

Sounds like your Apple ID may have been hacked. If it gets hacked, it's entirely possible for the hacker to take control away from you entirely, by changing the password, recovery e-mail and security questions, or even enabling two-factor authentication. If they have done the latter, you'll never see your Apple ID again, as Apple absolutely will not assist in recovering an account that has had two-factor authentication enabled.
Since you're unable to log in at this point, you'll need to contact Apple. However, keep in mind that they may not be able to help you. There's very little proof that you own an Apple ID other than the information that the hacker could have changed by now. Still, Apple is the only one who can help with this.
Regarding the GoDaddy e-mail certificate, that's harder to say anything about. You'll probably want to contact GoDaddy support about that one. It's likely to be an issue on their end - perhaps an expired certificate, or a certificate that was compromised and has now been revoked, or a simple configuration issue.
None of this is likely to be related to malware.

  • How do you run a diagnostics on my iMac

How do I run A diagnostic on my imac?  Some of my programs keep unexpecticly quitting. And I have one that i have to repair every time I open.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How do you remove totally an application in Imac

how do you remove a program or application totally in Imac?

    It depends -
if you installed it by dragging it to your Applications folder, simply drag it to the trash.
If the app has its own installer, then check to see if it also has an uninstaller as it may leave bits and pieces in various places
Do not delete/trash any application that came preinstalled with the system - if yoiu don't want it, simply ignore it.
