How do you install a driver onto a current system from a live cd?

I just installed Arch on my laptop, but it seems that it doesn't install the Ethernet drivers and they don't appear to be on the live CD. How might I install the drivers?

your post title and the message within seem to contradict themselves.
More information from you might be helpful as in what packages did you install during the installation process? Did you have network connection during the install? Are there any errors that you get when booting.

How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive. Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure. You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume. Click on the Restart button. You should boot from the new drive. Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

Well as I pointed out in my post, "Sadly, my Text Edit documents are still all there, every single time I opened them and made a small change, there is another copy stretching all the way back to the day I installed Mountain Lion." so if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will concede that it is a good idea. Short of that, no I have been capable of making my own backups since I was 16 years old (16 years ago) I don't need my computer to endlessly do it for me in a way I am completely unable to shut off. That's what I have external hard drives, flash drives, a DVD burner, Drop Box, E-mail (as in emailing copies to myself) and icloud for. If I am doing something and I don't have access to a single one of those options, I don't know why I brought my computer with me in the first place. And I don't see how you can say it's an illusory gain in disk space, hundreds of copies of text documents, garageband files, Final Cut files, Motion Files and basically any program that makes files onto my comptuer that I can myself make incremental changes to, those all need to be stored somehow. Again, if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will agree with you that that is a good thing because IF it only saved for a week, it wouldn't be an issue. Sadly, no matter how many links you post, I still have text edit backups stretching from today back to July 26. They're not going away and I have no reason to beleive any other file I edit is going to go away either since they haven't been. They're all there eating up HD space and this imaginary "week" limit is simply not coming into effect. I hate it and there needs to be a simple way to simply shut it off. Specifically a system with a User folder located on more than one drive. I have programs installed on both drives in order to save space on one (a small SSD boot drive). Upon trying to install windows 8.1, the Windows Store tells me my PC can't run Windows

Got it working :D... But it eats some time tho...
First run a cmd with admin privileges.
Then mklink /j C:\Users D:\Users
(Change D if you have users on other drive)
Now follow this guilde untill the profiles directory

Finish the guide and let it do its thing. (This will leave your Users map on the HDD)
Now activate the Administrator account

Remove the mklink of C:\Users. Then copy the (hidden) Default User profile from D:\Users to C:\Users (yes create Users on the C partition)
Then log off and log in as the admin account.
Create a new online account (get an alternate email or make an account alias at https://account.live.com/summarypage.aspx)
Log in with that account.
Download and install the windows 8.1 Upgrade and let it finish everything (Took 3 hours at me)
Then login with your main account. It will generate a new account.
Restart your PC and login with the admin account.
Goto C:\Users and look what name it got. If the name is crappy then you can rename it at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\<your profile ID>
Then do a mklink /j C:\Users\<ProfileName> D:\Users\<ProfileName>
Now restart the pc and login on your main account.
If everything went well you will have your old account back.
Now you can remove the C:\Users map and do a mklink /j C:\Users D:\Users
P.S. My store doesn't work anymore after this...

I have a USB-GPIB-HS module. I'm trying to install it on a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop running Windows 7. I have LabVIEW 2011 installed on that computer along with the version of NI488.2 and NI MAX that came with LabVIEW 2011. During the process of debugging I've upgraded NI488.2 to the latest version from the NI website, v14.
The USB-GPIB-HS shows up in the Device manager in the Control Panel. It has a yellow exclamation mark (a "bang") next to in. It says that the device driver isn't working "This Device Cannot Start (Code 10)". If I "Troubleshoot" the device from the menu there it tries to download a newer driver, but it can't find one. The driver version is 14.0.0.49152. If I try to upgrade the driver in Device Manager it says that it's up-to-date.
In NI MAX the device shows up, but can't be used. It's name and serial number are given but the normal controls to use it don't appear.
I've heard that tinkering with the "GPIB Enumeration Service" can help, but I can't find where that service is.

The problem was that the USB-GPIB-HS modules I tried was physically broken. I tried another and everything worked.

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

OK seriously, I did not want to make you feel stupid, it was in fact the first thing that came to my mind. Now, if you got something from Costco, there is probably a box or a CD with it, which should tell you whether it is a PC version or a Mac version. These apps usually come with items like a camera or maybe a scanner included. Please take the time and check what you got. If there is nothing on the disk telling you it's a Mac-version, youprobably got the wrong thing.
The Mac version is available via Adobe's website, just look for Photoshop Elements 9, that's the current version. There even is a trial available.

k, i have tried installing the linux x-fi driver for my sound card... but im sorta having trouble installing the driver.

The wiki page (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HCL/Sound_Cards) doesn't cover installing drivers for creative soundcards as such. They should be installed automatically. However it doesn't mention the x-fi at all. I am not sure what the procedure is for your card. Are you sure it hasn't been autodetected? Also you should read this article if you haven't already. I've been looking all over the place to figure this out, but I've found nothing. How do you install a .sf2 file onto garageband 10? I used to be able to install it using the DLS music device, but as far as I know, that's not in Garageband 10.

I am seeing the DSL music device in the Audio Units section of the Smart Controls. But maybe it is a left-over from GarageBand 11.
Open the Smart Controlds and click the Audio Units > Instrument brick.
Then select "Au Instruments > Apple".
But I did not check, if soundfonts still will work this way. Tell us, when you try.

If all else fails, try this. i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.
