How do you keep processes from starting up?

i have no HP software from on my computer and i still have HP's process starting up on my computer. i need to know how to keep a process from starting up. i know in windows you do MSCONFIG, does OS X have anything like that? thanks.

As the Hatter said, get EasyFind:
http://www.devon-technologies.com/download/
It's free and a nifty little program. Spotlight is programmed to not search in most system folders so will not find many of the pieces of an app you want to de-install. EasyFind will look in those places so you can delete whatever else of the HP app is still around.

What do mean by reloading? Once you sync the photos to the iPad they should not sync again. Is that what you are seeing? The progress bar is showing that the photos are being transferred all over again?

  • Forte and MIDlet - how do you keep Forte from seeing J2SE classes?

I am developing MIDlets with Forte; I have created a new MIDlet within a MIDlet suite, using the HelloWorld template.
However Forte lets me use any old class in my code, not just the MIDP classes. For example, if I write a
    Float f = new Float();
line in my code, Forte will compile without batting an eyelid, even though there is no Float class in MIDP.
How can I keep Forte from accepting the use of J2SE classes when compiling MIDlets?
    Thanks

    OK, fixed - here's what I did:
    - I went to Project/Settings/Compiler Types and I moved the J2ME Wireless Internal Compilation on top of the list
    - then to Project/Settings/J2ME Wireless Settings and make sure that the J2ME Wireless Internal Compilation was the default compiler
    - then Project/Settings/Java Sources/Default compiler and set the compiler again
-then I went to Tools/Global Options/J2ME Wireless Options and set "Check default compiler" to false
Now it works!Perhaps there are useless/contradictory steps in there, but at least now my code is only compiled against MIDP classes and not J2SE classes.

  • How do you keep attachments from rotating  when they come in on the side

You keep attachments on your email from rotating when they come in sideways

You can't of the PDF or the file was oriented that way. You can lock the screen orientation and turn the iPad the other way - landscape or portrait - but you can't change the orientation of the file in the mail app.

One is my son who has moved out and the other is my ex boyfriend and I do not want their start up/sign in icons on this computer anymore.(the last 2 are me and my daughter who uses the computer.) Where do I go to remove the people who will no longer me using my computer?
Also, when I went to post this question, there was iMac Intel and iMac PPC and I do not know what that means and which one i have. Can you tell me what they mean and how to find out which one I have so I know where to correctly post in the future?

Go to System Preferences / Users & Groups / Click on "Locked Padlock" and type in Administrators name and password / Click on User Account you want to remove and click the --- button / A dialog box will appear that looks like this:
Click the 'Delete the home folder' option, click on the OK button to delete that users account.

  • HT201364 How do you remove OSX from start up disk?

Trying to update to OSZ Mavrick and system is telling me that: "You need 4.93 GB of available space to download OS X Mavericks. Remove items from your startup disk to increase available space." How do I accomplish this?

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • How can you keep iphone from connecting to unknown networks and stop asking about them?

When i have WiFi on, but "ask to join" is turned off, i've found that my iphone connects to open unsecured networks on its own whenever it can.  These are not networks it has previously been connected to.  I want it to behave like every other WiFi device out there where i have a list of known networks that it accesses when in range and i don't want it to ask me or connect to anything else when not in range.  I understand i can turn WiFi off but this is a pretty big pain to have to manually do this every time i go in and out of range of networks i want to be connected to.
It also would be nice if anyone knows of a way to edit my know networks list as a list instead of having to be in range of the network and then one by one go through every visible network to figure out which ones it considers known.  Especially when it has automatically added networks without my knowledge when the ask to join was turned off.

Let me give you an example. I'm at a United lounge at O'Hare Airport right now. They have WiFi here but it requires that you log on in order to connect to the internet. I connect to WiFi from my laptop. All good. Then, immediately, my iPhone connects to the same network. But because I haven't logged on from my iPhone, I can't get online. This kills the internet on my iPhone because I'm connected to a network with no internet access. If on my iPhone I "Forget this Network" and then come back next week, I'll find that it connects to the exact same network.
I travel a lot and almost all of the networks I use on a daily basis require a login of some sort.
I could turn off WiFi but then I have to remember to turn it on when I actually do want to connect to a network, like when I'm at home.
Any idea how to prevent the mirroring of WiFi connections? Or at a minimum make sure the "Forget this Network" option actually works?

  • How do I keep iTunes from starting up whenever I connect my iPhone to my Macbook?

I frequently charge my iPhone by pluggiing it into a USB port on my Macbook. ITunes alwasys starts up. Can that be changed?

I don't really want to sync my iphone with my iphoto. Whenever I plug my phone into my computer, iphoto automatically opens and asks if I want to sync. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
    Thanks!
The RIGHT way is to copy photos from your phone to iPhoto and delete them from the Camera Roll. If you still want them on the iPhone add them back to the photo album app. The Camera Roll is a bad place to leave photos that are important, and a silly place to leave photos that are not. It is intended as temporary storage, jost like any digital camera.
iPhone will not open if the camera roll is empty.

  • How do you keep users from resetting ipad

I work in education, have students that have begun to learn how to reset the ipad to factory default?

Having the Restrictions on does not prevent someone from restoring an iOS device via iTunes on a computer. The only way to block a restore is to set up Find My iPad which also sets up the Activation Lock, and that doesn't prevent someone from erasing the iPad, only from using it afterwards without access to the Apple ID used to set up Find My iPad.
    Regards.

  • How do you keep videos from completely playing in a slideshow (like the photos)?

In iPhoto, you can make slideshows to show photos for only 5 or however long of a duration you'd like... but when a video shows up in the show, all the pictures (depending on if you choose certain themes) will stick around on the screen as the video plays (or if the video is the only element in the current slide, also the video will completely play).
My question is.. is there any way to have the videos play for the same duration you set for the photos?  Like.. to have everything.. videos AND photos.. to only play for like 5 seconds etc.
I ask this because I want to show a really big album I have at a party with a slideshow, but because of all the video I take, when some videos are a bit longer (say like 2 to 3 mintues), it kinds disrupts the flow of the slideshow (as compared to just showing a short 5 second clip of the video like with the photos only being for 5 seconds as well.
Is this possible, or does anyone know a workaround solution?  I'd really like the videos to be in the slideshow too, but just not the whole videos.
We are talking thousands of photos and maybe hundreds of videos, here.  Nothing I'd want to edit individually.  iPhoto seems perfect for this if it would just only play portions of my video library instead of the whole videos.

No.  The videos will play for their entire length.  Try trimming the video in iPhoto by playing it and use the gear icon to bring up the Trip feature:
You'll get this window where you can select the portion of the video to use:
When you're done you can "revert to original" like this:
That may give you what you need for the slideshow.

  • How do you keep images from saving as "unknown.ext"?

When saving images, sometimes (but more often than I care to tolerate) the name defaults to "unknown.ext". Is there any solution outside of typing out a new name and extension type.

  • How do you keep Finder from changing column widths?

I don't know if this bugs anyone else, but I absolutely HATE it that Finder automatically adjusts the column widths.  It jerks content around and makes it where it drives you nuts. You think you can see two columns, until you click on an entry and suddenly it jerks the width out of proportion to where you can see either column.
This isn't a matter of it adjusting to the widest file name length either, because it seems to "remember" that there used to be a long file name there. If you change the length, it STILL makes it very wide.
I've long said that Finder is perhaps the absolutely WORST daily app that Apple has.  Nobody addresses it and nobody seems to want to make it better.  Are there any alternatives to this piece of crap?  Or is there some hidden way that you can tell Finder to QUIT adjusting column size?
    Thanks!

I've come across the same problem in Mavericks (v 10.9). Oddly enought, I didn't notice that problem with Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I'm wondering if this is caused by a corrupted Library file. I've contacted Apple Tech Support and spoke with two (2) support agents, one with an advanced title for almost an hour. Unfortunately, the advanced Tech Support agent could only acknowledge the problem, had no solutions and suggested I contact Applev via Support feedback.
If you've upgraded to Mavericks, have you noticed the same problem?
Any insight or assistance would be appreciated.

  • How do you keep itunes from re-ordering your apps

When iTunes syncs with my iPad it re-orders the apps in mostly ABC order. I'm not sure what logic it uses but it's annoying.

When you select the Apps tab of iTunes (with the iPad connected) you'll see a representation of the home page(s). You can move the apps around in that window in iTunes (which is a bit of a pain when you are trying to move apps between pages) and when you sync the apps will appear in the same locations. If you buy apps in iTunes on the computer, they'll be placed willy nilly in the empty spaces but the arrangement you created won't be disturbed.

  • HT1553 how do you keep imac from going to sleep during disk utility backup ?

using the install DVD I am attempting to create a disk image backup with the Disk Utility app.  However the imac goes to slepp every 10 minutes. eventually causing an error.
I found the commands to use on the commandline in terminal, However I can not use terminal and Disk Utility app at the same time from the install DVD.
I am using moutian lion install usb drive.
The Snow Leopard install DVD could not handle the 3 TB enternal harddive where the backup will be placed, before I do a clean install of Mountain Lion.

this seems to be an issue in (mountain lion?) disk util - actually the second bug that I know of now.
I am having the same issue whilst using zeroDIsk - however the system going to standy seems to slow the task down, it hasn't failed yet.
From what  I can see caffeinate will solve the issue (in mountain lion)
