How do you keep your VPN clients up to date?

Hi, how do you keep your Cisco VPN clients up to date? Our users connect to a Cisco 3015 Concentrator. It needs to be as automatic as possible.
Thanks

Check this link,
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/vpn_client/cisco_vpn_client/vpn_cli
ent46/administration/guide/vcAch3.html
Example:
Steps to perform an automatic update for VPN client :
===================================================
1. Download update-4.8.00.0440-major-K9 file on your PC from the link below and unzip it.
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/vpnclient-3des
It will have the following files::
- binary_config.ini
- sig.dat
- vpnclient-win-is-8.00.0440-k9.exe
- vpnclient-win-msi-8.00.0440-k9.exe
2. Create a webserver with a folder and move all the above files to this folder on webserver.
3. Now on your vpn client create a new profile. This profile file will appear in the profiles folder of the vpn client. Copy this file to your desktop and zip it. Name the
zipped file as profiles.zip. Delete the profile from the client.
4. Make a copy of your binary_config.ini on your desktop. Rename it to new_update_config.ini. This is just to make sure its not saved as a txt file.
Open the above file and write the following on it:
[Autoupdate]
Required=1
5. Now move the new_update_config.ini and profiles.zip to the webserver. Once we browse to the webserver it should look like --
http://webserver/~razshah/vpn_profile_update462/
Index of /~razshah/vpn_profile_update462
Name Last modified Size Description
Parent Directory 09-Mar-2005 13:24 -
binary_config.ini 09-Mar-2005 13:26 1k
new_update_config.ini 11-Mar-2005 11:35 1k
profiles.zip 09-Mar-2005 13:26 1k
sig.dat 09-Mar-2005 13:26 2k
vpnclient-win-is-4.6..> 09-Mar-2005 13:26 7.6M
vpnclient-win-msi-4...> 09-Mar-2005 13:26 10.3M
6. The concentrator is configured as follows:
Client Type is Windows
URL http://webserver/~razshah/vpn_profile_update462
Revisions 4.6
7. On your PC go to the VPN Client > updates folder. Delete the update_config file if its already there. This folder should have only autoinstall (this file will be added if update works) autoupdate header files.
The update does take about 5 mins. To see the new file we have to close and reopen the client. Once connected make sure you are able to browse to the webserver and see all the files.
1- Auto update runs only on Windows 2000 and Windows XP, all other client types update manually. Windows NT users get notified and can get an update manually from the update server.
2- Remote users must have the VPN Client for Windows 4.6 or greater installed on their PCs to use the automatic update feature.

~JG

How can you keep your iPhone 4 (using it as my car's iPod) staying on the Audible app?  When I leave the car and return to continue hearing a book, it has switched to iTunes.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • How do you keep your purchased apps if you are forced to change your Apple ID?

How do you keep your purchased apps if you are forced to change your Apple ID? A good example is if you are forced to change your email, which you use as your Apple ID.  what if it is a security app and you lose a lot of data if you lose the app? Why are the apps tied to the Apple ID rather than the user? Why is it impossible to globally change the Apple I D?

All content is tied to the account, but you can change the primary email address on an account e.g. you can log into your account via the Store > View Account on your computer's iTunes and there should be an Edit button to the right of your account id on your account's page, or similarly on your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and view your account. Or you can update it by logging into it via this page http://appleid.apple.com . You shouldn't lose any content on the account if you update it.
After updating the account you may need to log out of your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version for it to be 'refreshed' on it

  • How do you keep your lens dry in dewy conditions

How do I keep my lens dry in dewy conditions

I have not needed to do this for my camera, but I do this for my telescopes as a regular part of using them.
Dew wants to condesnse on the camera (and it ruins the shooting when it's condensing on your optics) because the camera is cool.  If you can keep it warm (and it really just needs to be a degree or two above the ambient temperature) then the dew wont settle on it.
To deal with this on telescopes we use dew controllers and dew straps.  The controller provides the power and sets the temperature, the strap wraps around the optics and you can think of it as a kind of electric blanket (because that's basically how it works -- except it's just a strap and not a full blanket.)  The dew heater systems run on 12v system power -- which is fine when you're on a location and the camera is on a tripod -- not so fine when you're on the move and hand-holding the camera.
Telescope dew heater systems are sold by companies such as Kendrick, Astro-Zap, Dew-Buster, Dew-Not, Astro-Smart and many others.
But remember... the key to the whole thing is to just keep the gear a degree or two warmer than the ambient temps.  Sometimes just keeping the camera close to your body -- under your jacket when not actively shooting -- can do that.

  • How do you keep your ipod apps after updating to the 4.0 upgrade?

I first backed up my iPod touch to keep all of my apps. Then I updated it to 4.0, when I got finished it didn't have any of my apps except the original ones from the iTouch. So I went to click restore from back up and it said that the 4.0 update would go away if I restored from backup. So how do I keep my apps and the update? I have bought some of the apps and do not think it would be fair to re buy them.

No, a backup won't do anything, you need to check your sync settings and then re-sync.
1- Connect your Touch to iTunes
2- Verify that your App sync preferences are set correctly
3- Verify that all your other sync preferences (Music, Video, Podcast) are set correctly
4- Click Apply if you made any changes, or click Sync to initiate a sync w/o any changes.
Assuming the missing Apps are in your iTunes, they should be added to your Touch after you re-sync.

  • How are you keeping your Apple keyboards clean in student labs?

I might be able to manage the software with ARD - but how do you clean out the keyboards? It's like they were built as dirt collectors.
And - Can ARD be used to admin. Macs on different vlans within a Win 2000 & 2003 server env.? Any tips, tricks re: this?
    Thanks!

I might be able to manage the software with ARD - but how do you clean out the keyboards? It's like they were built as dirt collectors.
It's pretty much impossible to keep computer lab keyboards clean unless you use a keyboard skin. Otherwise, you just have to wipe them down and blow them out every now and then and hope for the best.
Can ARD be used to admin. Macs on different vlans within a Win 2000 & 2003 server env.?
Yes. No special "tricks" are necessary; just set the ARD scanner to scan the appropriate range in the VLAN so you can see and add the computers and it should work without problems (we have multiple VLANs here and ARD works just fine).

  • How do you keep your users/groups in sync with latest developments?

As there seems to be some reorganization happening with regards to the core system users and groups (with systemd develpment and whatnot) I feel somewhat uncertain about how I should set up my users, which are needed and so forth, seems every update of the filesystem package as of recent leaves me with changes to the users/groups in .pacnew files that needs careful merging to not screw up the system.
There is of course https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Users however this is usually outdated (it currently only has one systemd user while the most recent passwd has five). Last time I broke my system was when I tried to apply changes suggested by the wiki page, rather then trying to figure out the changes from the .pacnew files).
Unfortunately I don't feel confident enough with the most recent changes to fix the wiki-page myself.
Right now my method is rather ad-hoc, I read the .pacnew files and make some guesses as to what users/groups in my files were added by other packages and should be left alone, and what users/groups were deleted/changed/added from the actual filesystem package because of changes in for example how the lastest version of systemd works. As I've made wrong guesses before, I feel there might be a better way to deal with this.
    How do you do it?
What are the best sources of updated information for what currently is the best practice way to set up the core system users/groups?

I find it very helpful to know what has changed in the files from last update to the current, so I can see which of the differences to my files are from the package update and which are custom changes of other packages or myself. So I either compare a new *.pacnew file to the last one if I had saved it (what I do for some files), or I go and check the diff of the package update. To do that, I go to the package page for filesystem, click on View Changes under Package Actions, find the current version and follow its link. There one can see which files got what changes.
For example the filesystem 2014.07-1 update had a change in the group file, input:x:97: got added, and also some changes in gshadow.

  • How do you restore your iphone from a certain date?

Is there a way to restore your iphone 4s from a certain date (i.e. the last time you synced)? I downloaded a program today that enables me to access work email from my iphone; however, the security restrictions it has put into place on my phone (not my employer's phone) are making me want to remove the program. I have been told by out IT department that I can only restore my iphone & start over from scratch.

Well, if you create iCloud backups, they overwrite one another every night around 1:30 AM, so that may not be so helpful unless of an emergency. The only other way is through an iTunes backup. When an iTunes backup is overwritten, it is sent to the recycling bin. It may take a while to determine which backup you want to open in iTunes, but once you do, you can restore your phone to the backup date of your choice.
    Thank you for choosing Apple.

  • How do you keep your iPhoto libraries in synch?

I am forever searching for the best way to keep my iPhoto libraries in synch with each other (I have an iMac and a now a new Macbook). I keep hoping that Apple will one day incorporate this into their iSync software or something, until then...just curious to know how everyone else deals with this?
I was thinking of giving ChronoSync a try...?
Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated!
    Black 2.0 Macbook, 2.1 Ghz 20" iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I am not going to be able to help you much in this regard. But I share your dilemma. I have a G4 and a G5 and find that I have Iphoto libraries on both but really want to change to only using the G5 for posting to Iweb because it has more room on it.
I am wondering how to go about asking questions regarding uploading pictures. For example I do not want my Welcome page to be full of pictures, but rather a few pics and a lot of verbiage. How can I do that? Can anybody help? And yes, I think this question probably goes somewhere else, but I am not sure where.

  • How do you keep your iPhones and iPads separate under the same apple id

I have a family of iPhones and iPads and one apple ID, well needless to say each device is getting face time calls and text messages from eachother. I might add it makes for some pretty interesting conversations. I would like to learn how to keep each device seperate under the same apple ID, or would it be better to set up seperate ID's for everything? Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • How do you keep your place on the page

we are trying to go paperless in my office, but the biggest complaint form the user is.
"Hey when we did this on paper we never lost our place because we put a ruler under the line we were working on. We would stop printing if you can tell us how to to the EXACT same thing with the pdf's"
to let you know they are looking at scanned imiages that have been locked. so even if i could get them to accept highliting (which they flat out rejected) it does not work with imiages.
in practice what they really want is a way to throw up semi transpartent box, that would highlight where they currently were, that they could simply use the arrow keys to move up and down the page.
Does adobe (reader of full) have any function close to this? does some one have a viable alternative? might there be an addon or plug in that achieves this?
Thank you in advance for your help
    Kevin

    Thank you for the help.
How ever since the documents are locked the commenting tools will not enable.
as well that would not meet managements requirements. of Simple to move up and down the page like a ruler.

If not, then how about an external hard drive? They are very cheap these days and well worth it for backing up your iTunes and your Mac. You can buy or put together models that are, for example, in the 160-250GB range for under $100 easily.
