How do you know bonjour is on your Mac?, How do you know bonjour is on your Mac?

I did a quick search of my Mac and used keyword Bonjour, nothing came up?
Is it there?
I am trying to connect a Brother MFC 8480DN to my network and it does not see any printers

You check the apps on your phone for the data you are syncing with iCloud.  For example, if you have Mail, Contacts, Calendars in Reminders set to On in Settings>iCloud, the data in the mail, contacts, calendars and reminders apps on your phone is the data in your iCloud account.  If you are backing up to iCloud, your backup is there too.  If you have photo stream turned on, the photos in your my photo stream album in the Photos app from the last 30 days are in your iCloud account.  Some of this data is viewable on icloud.com from a computer.
The data is automatically retrieved (synced) to your phone whenever you are connected to the internet. To restore to your iCloud backup, you have to erase the phone and go back through the initial setup screens to access it.

  • How can you know if there is a change made to your mac?

I'm not even sure how to ask this and I didn't know how to phrase the question.  I was using Firefox 10.0.2 and had been to a variety of my usual websites.  Nothing any different at all.  Signed into my credit union and when I had finished what I needed to do, I closed the browser as is my habit.  There were a few tabs open.  For a very brief moment a screen appeared that I did not recognize and all I could see was the word "Results",  and then it disappeared.  It briefly looked like a page of either a survey or the results of a survey.  None of which I remember agreeing to do.  I think if I had closed the tabs or minimized them before quitting Firefox, I would have been able to see what it was rather than just getting a glimpse. I have no idea if this is something to be concerned about. it seems to me that anything nefarious would not have let me see it at all. I have gone back and reviewed the history of everything I did today in Firefox and in Safari and there is nothing unusual.  I have been to no websites that I have not been to often.  There is nothing downloaded and the best I can tell by checking Finder is that there is nothing new, different or modified.  The only new thing I have added is AdbIock Plus in the last month. I have no anitivirus or spyware programs and would prefer not to.  The Web of Trust is my only other add on.  I checked Thomas Reed’s website to find out if there are any new things to be cautious about and just in case have disabled Java (though I have kept it updated) in both Firefox and Safari.  I guess my question is would installing ClamXV be over reacting and if not, is it better to do it from their website or the app store.  Is there anywhere that I can look to see if somehow something has gotten to my computer or just assume I had something opened that I completely forgot about.
sorry this is so long but I haven’t had one of these semi panics in a while.  I hate when something I haven't had happen before, happens and I can't figure it out.  I thought providing as much information as I could think of would help ya'll know if I have something to be concerned about.
    thank you.

Thank you both so very much for your quick replies.  that is what I thought but the your assurances  help me ease my anxiety.  And yes the credit union has made a change because now it no longer recognizes my computer as a personal computer when I am using Firefox after the latest Firefox update, and requires me to answer a security question to log in, which is why I had been using Safari, but as I was in Firefox I was lazy and didn't switch browsers.

  • I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)

"I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)"
That was all I could put in the initial "box."  Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.
    Proceeding ...
After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.
    Help ...
    Running 8.0 on 5S
    Thanks!

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I have formatted my iPhone at least a dozen times, Apple and an Apple retailer have formatted my hard drive not to mention the numerous times I have formatted it but the hackers keep getting on my devices. Im formatting my lap top at this very second because during the course of the night I left the ethernet cable plugged into it and they locked me out of my c: drive, and configured the system so I can't download any updates from Microsoft, overtime I type in www.microsoft.com it changes to ww38.microsoft.com which takes me to a blank page. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

Yes, there are even defaults for naming them, such as LivingRoom, Bedroom, etc, or you can even enter your own name with the remote for each AppleTV.

  • How do you know if your Mac is 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz 802.11n?

We have a 2007 iMac and an original MacBook Air, which were both bought in January of 2008. And a brand new 17-inch MacBook Pro. Our Time Capsule is the older non-dual band model which was bought with the iMac and MacBook Air, again in January of 2008.
If they are all 5GHz, I would think I would want to set the Time Capsule's Radio Mode for "802.11n only (5GHz)."
Assuming that they are all 5GHz, is this what I should do for maximum efficiency, or does it really matter?
(And yes, I know that our iPhones would not be able to use the 5GHz band. Not a problem)

That's true. Apparently the 5Ghz band can use 40 mhz bandwith, rather than 20 mhz, which when combined with the relatively few 5ghz devices, means it can be quite a bit faster. I routinely get about 8-10 MB/sec (that's 64-80 megabits/sec) with my 2007 Macbook Pro and my Airport Extreme base station (802:11n). The signal from the Airport Extreme is pretty strong across even from about 150 feet away, and through several walls, but the speed drops significantly (to around 2 MB/sec at best)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to confirm your Macs support 5 ghz, apart from simply trying to connect to a 5 Ghz only network. I would assume that since my late 2007 MacBook Pro supports it, your Macbook (and probably Macbook Air) will support it too. I can't say for the iMac.
You can look in the Airport section of System Profiler, then look for an entry like this:
    Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n
Note the 802:11 a - apparently the "a" refers to the 5 Ghz band, which is used by 802:11n. So, if it shows this, I figure it should work fine.

    It is a 64G IPhone 5 ...
Regardless, it is not a matter of carrier locking.  Verizon iPhone 5 phones were never GSM sim-locked to begin with.  Every iPhone Verizon has sold since the introduction of the iPhone 5 has been sold with an unlocked GSM slot, as required in the USA by their agreement with the FCC.  They have not been allowed to sell any iPhone 5, iPhone 5c nor iPhone 5s devices with GSM carrier locking in place.
Your connection problems are from some other cause - it is NOT a carrier locking issue.

  • How do you know if someone else is attempting access to your wireless network? (WRT54G)

I searched adn tried the Linksys FAQ to no avail to get an answer to the subject question.
Is there any way to verify who is actually using or trying to attempt use of your wireless network, if so, where do I locate and view this information?
I just set up a wireless system so my wife could get access from her wireless equipped laptop, but I really see no area to verify who is actually using the wireless network or if some other outside source/person is attempting to get access.
Any info on where, how and what to do to view this type of info would be greatly appreciated and if it can't be, shouldn't there be something added to the system that would allow one to view all users accessing their wireless system?
    Thank you,
    Clay Fugitte

Tracking down who is using your wireless system is usually difficult or impossible.  The router only knows the MAC address of the connecting computer.  MAC addresses can be faked.  Even if you knew the MAC address of the person connecting, what can you do with that info?  Go around the neighborhood asking people "Is this your MAC address?"
Instead of worrying about who is connecting to your wireless, you should simply set up wireless security.  This will keep intruders off your wireless network.  Then you don't need to worry about who is connecting.
It sounds like you are running an unsecured wireless router.  When you run an unsecured wireless router, anyone within range can login and use your Internet connection. At a minumum, this means that they will be using your bandwidth. At worst, they could be uploading copyrighted music, sending spam email, distributing viruses, or downloading child pornography --- all from an account with your name on it!   So my advice is --- secure your wireless network.
To set up wireless security, do the following:
First of all, to setup wireless security,  you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=893357 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
    Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.

do any one know how much it is to get the new ipod touch with the camera if you trade in your old ipod touch?

Sounds like you need a new battery.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm.  Apple will replace the battery for $79.  A third-party place like the folloing may be less expensive.  Google for more places.

  • How do you know if your Iphone app is connecting to the internet?

I'm a brand new Iphone user and I have a question about apps.  I only have the smallest data plan.  I'm wondering how do you know if your app (or any app you download) once opened connects to the internet?
For instance I have a Netflix subscription.  When I hit the Netflix app is that connecting to the internet?  When I watch a movie or tv in my own que is that still on the internet?
Or what about the Kindle app or iBooks?  Is it on the internet to read?
Those are just two small examples.  I'm having a hard time figuring out which apps to download based on if they connect to the internet for their use.

As a general rule, if the app stores all of its data locally on your phone, a data connection is not needed for that app to function properly. If the app does not store data locally on your phone...streaming apps(Netflix), the built in Maps app, etc., a data connection will be required for the app to function properly. You can minimize your cellular data usage by only using such apps when connected to available WiFi. You also have the ability to turn cellular data completely off in settings: Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data>Off. Best to completely read an apps description before installing such on your phone. If a data connection is required for the app to function, it will state such in the app's description.

  • If your iPad is stolen, how do you know if the thief has reset it?

So my iPad was stolen (I know who did it, etc, Police know, whateves.) However, I hear that even though I put it in lost mode, put an activation key on it, and have activated the Find my Iphone, I know there are ways of erasing my iPad completely. So here's my question: If you go to iCloud or to your Apple Support where it lists the device registry for all devices you have, does that disappear the moment your iPad is erased? Or is there any clear indication of whether or not the thief cleared the device? Thanks!

If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Make sure the external drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled), quit iPhoto, drag the iPhoto library to the external drive, depress the option key, launch iPhoto and use the select library command to select the iPhoto library on the external drive
Fully test the library. Once you are sure it is totally ok delete the old library - test one more time prior to emptying the trash
Check and make sure that your backup system is backing up yor external drive
