How do you know if the built-in camera is running?

My iMac (late 2013 model) has a little green light just above the screen, right beside the camera, and I am wondering if that means the camera is running.

If the green light is on, that means the camera is running. The camera cannot turn on with out the green light because it is wired to the same power source, unless of course, if the bulb dies. Now if it is staying on all the time, thats a problem. First make sure that Photo booth is not running. If Photo Booth or any other app you have that need the camera (Flutter, ECT, check you menu bar at the Top) then check the activity monitor to see if anyone is spying on you. Go to Applications>Utilities>Activity monitor. Click on the CPU tab and scroll through the list and if you find any thing on that list that looks suspicious, right click it and end it.(note if it is a root task, you can't end it)

I am now trying to download Maverick .. & have been hearing a whirring sound. But it starts then stops?
- BUT I can't tell if it's done. I've kept the "page" on the screen, and the "download" button shows grey & it shows "Downloading"
- BUT I don't see any circles, to show anything is happening.
- NOR can I see anything on download in Finder. I've been checking the apple icon to see & it still shows Lion, 10.7.5 that I got in 2012. I have 4GB.
So, How do you know if the Maverick download is happening - & when it's done?

With App Store open, purchases or updates pane (can't recall which), CMD+R to reload the page, and you should see a progress bar. Should look like this:

Since I upgraded to the latest version of IOS, is worse. The wi-fi does not work anymore, 3G network makes it even more hard to get, some apps that should work, close or take a long time to load, even the screen to make phone calls has long recharge times. Do you have suggestions? Thank you!

After the person get the email that says "I am sharing these files with you. Click on the image below to view or download your file.", how do you know that they've viewed or downloaded the file? Do you get an email message or is there something in the shared status that lets you know?

I don't succeed in making pictures with the built-in camera of MacBook Pro.
Neither the program i-Photo can be downloaded.
Both items worked perfect when I bought the laptop a couple of years ago.
What went wrong?

You can take pictures with "PhotoBooth".
You can use all kind of picture effects as well.

ive used logic pro for quite a while now at school and around places. and i think i should have been able to solve this probelm but i havent been able to get it working.
i have gone onto audio hardware and drivers but cant find anywhere about using the built in mic.

Hello If you are using Saffire LE then I do not see how you can set up your built in mike thru it but in Logic you can use built in mike by setting it in System Preferences-Sound -Input. Hope this is helpful

How do you know if the Dreamcolor Engine is working?

I have recently purchased an HP Dreamcolor Z24x and have connected it to my macbook pro via a blackmagic mini monitor. I have attempted to monitor video being fed from both Avid Media Composer 7 and Final Cut Pro 7. However, I have no idea if the dreamcolor engine is actually working. How can you tell?
Playing video from a Rec 709 sequence in Avid, the video looks drastically different from the image on my laptop when I have the Rec 709 setting selected on the Dreamcolor. I expected it to look different, but not to the degree it does. The gamma is radically different. Properly exposed Rec 709 footage looks extrememly underexposed and flat in the Rec 709 mode on the dreamcolor monitor. I find it hard to believe it is an accurate representation. When I switch to sRGB color space on the Dreamcolor, it looks much closer to what is on my laptop (the gamma looks correct, with a slight shift of color)

You can not see this info on VZW's site. There are apps for smartphones that will break down the info though, but by site or what was downloaded

I'm pretty sure that my iPod Shuffle's battery is completely dead. Even though I charged it longer than the alotted time there's no charge and the indicator light doesn't come on.

If the battery check light shows nothing, and the front status light is similarly dead, then you can assume no power. That could certainly mean a dead battery.
The battery is not a user-replaceable item. Apple's official solution is provided through the battery replacement program, which you can find discussed and described on the iPod Shuffle Support Page and elsewhere.
I think you'll find the price delta between that and simply buying a refurb isn't that great. Something else to keep in mind is that that's what you're doing anyway; you don't get your own machine back.
You can open the Shuffle up and try replacing it yourself, if you like. It will involve some fine work and some soldering, but some have claimed success. There are now sources for the batteries themselves. Guidance for all of that can be found online.

How can you tell if your fan is working on your mac book pro? I cannot hear mine running and can't feel any air coming out. A couple of weeks ago, my battery literally exploded out of the case, Is this an item that can be self serviced or does it require a trip to the Apple repair store?

Macbook pro fan usually has really LOW noise, and it is not really strong, so you might not feel the air.
Fans are used to cool the CPU and GPU, not batteries.
But if you need to replace fans or batteries, take it to the store. Make reservations to save time.

How Do You Know When The Zen Touch Is Done Chargi

I searched through the forums and couldn't find anything on this topic.
I want to make sure that I don't overcharge my player, while still filling it to its enormous capacity. How will I know when it's done charging?

On my touch there is a little icon in the upper left corner of the screen showing my battery symbol with a power volt thing over it to show it is charging. This changes back and forth until the charging is done, then there is nothing on the screen at all.

In the new firefox 4, how do you know if the synching is happening? I understand it is automatic, but it was autmatic before. now I do not see the littel syncing icon anywhere on the page? where is that icon or another way to know if it is sycning?

OK, so i have another post about creating a "folder with a name that is todays date". i would really like to see something inside the backup that i can verify very quickly with. i mean, i think i am realizing that all other methods are too indirect for me and that if i can get a visual on this with such a folder it would do me a lot of good.
i mean, one problem i am having with the alerts (as much as i like them) is that i am backing up multiple times on site and i also run some off site. so i get a lot of alerts and i like them. however, if i have a drive in hand and i plug it in it would be good to know quickly what the date of the backup is. say i take one of my externals from my desktop to the coffee shop with my laptop.
it sure would be nice to know what the current backup date is...

If your iPad is stolen, how do you know if the thief has reset it?

So my iPad was stolen (I know who did it, etc, Police know, whateves.) However, I hear that even though I put it in lost mode, put an activation key on it, and have activated the Find my Iphone, I know there are ways of erasing my iPad completely. So here's my question: If you go to iCloud or to your Apple Support where it lists the device registry for all devices you have, does that disappear the moment your iPad is erased? Or is there any clear indication of whether or not the thief cleared the device? Thanks!

Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.
