You didn't say which model of iPod Nano that you have, but generally there should be a lock setting, that can be turned on or off, to prevent accidental changes in settings. And, there is also a setting to turn on or off a feature called, "Shake to Shuffle." It allows you to change songs by just shaking the iPod.

How do you update smart playlists with live update turned off?
If I create a smart playlist in itunes and deselect live updating then how exactly does the smart playlist load up?
The reason I ask is that started setting up Smart Playlists for all of the artists on my computer and they're all set to live update which is consequently slowing down my itunes. I realize that I may not necessarily need that. My question is though...how exactly would I go about manually updating a smart playlist that has live updating turned off?Well, the problem is that I have smart playlists for every artist in my library (which is literally hundreds). With every live update turned on, every time I edit tags for a new single or something it'll scan all the smart playlists for matches. The reason I'd like to have smart playlists instead of regular playlists is that I tend to add a lot of singles, and, especially in the hip hop genre, they tend to have a lot of guest appearances so I'd like the smart playlists to do tehir job.....I'd just prefer to not have it set to live update so I can avoid delays during tagging.
Apparently this is a known side efffect of having many smart playlists in your itunes. I realize my way of working with them might be slightly unconventional in comparison to how they are typically used but it's great for me. If I could leave live update on without any performance degregation then I would but it seems I have to pick.
I read somewhere that if you shut down itunes and restart that it'll refresh all your smart playlists (if live update is turned off). -
How do you make a truly pressure sensitive brush?
I have been using Sketchbook Pro to draw becuase the brushes seem to work so much better, but I feel that Photoshop must do the same thing, if I only knew how. I want to draw with say, a charcoal style brush. I want the pressure with my Cintiq to both vary the size and the opacity. In Photoshop, I can only seem to make the size vary with pressure which results in a solid black line no matter what. Here is the difference, in the attached picture. Note how the Sketchbook line has variation in both size and density resulting in a much more natural look.

What I do is have this folder open while going threough the brush sets in Photoshop, and rename them so they appear in sensible alphabetical order. I also delete any dead wood.
The default set is called Standard, and IMO you should treat it with respect and not mess with it. For instance I once went through the Standard set wondering why there were so many repeats, and deleted some of them. I awarded myself **** of the Year for that act of stupidity as those apparent duplicates have different, and very useful, shape dynamics.

How do you make itunes not play wav files?
I know how to make it play wav files but how do I remove it from the default player list? I want them to all play in Quicktime. I have done the right click, holt alt and press Always Open With... and also done the right click and specify it to open in Quicktime. I have done this on 3 different Macs with 2 different OSX versions. It will open in Quicktime that one time but then the next time I open a wav file it goes back to Quicktime.

Do you mean, "goes back to iTunes"? "A wav file," or the same wav file you just changed?

Twitter Bootstrap 3 -How do you make navbar not collapse-
I do not need my navbar to be adjust to the screen. I just want it to stay static. Is there any way this happen? Is there any way to make it easier for me to adjust the way that my navbar behaves in twitter bootstrap 3? I bassically would to have my navbar centered until the logo hits the left side, then just become static.

How do you make Aperture not default to Import mode upon start?
I leave my iPhone plugged in to my Mac most of the time. Consequently, Aperture always starts up in Import Mode. Does anyone know how to turn this off?

BenYeah, I see that setting. It's also duplicated in Image Capture. And setting it to "No Application" doesn't seem to matter. If the iPhone is plugged in before Aperture starts, Aperture launches import mode every time. Poop!

I know this question is old but I just found out the real answer. After you turn on the little switch on the left side of the HIPPIH AppsKey Keyboard and the blue light blinks, I want you to look just above it. Do you see that hole right above the word PAIRING? Go grab a paper clip and press down in to the hole for about 2 seconds. This sends a signal to the ipad and in the BLUETOOTH menu you should see "Keyboard" under DEVICES. Click on it and dialogue box will pop up asking you to put in a passcode for the keyboard.
It took me way too long to figure this out.

Updates help KEEP YOU SAFE
Sometimes, but in my experience FFirefox updates can really screw up your system, lose you data, mess up your user interface. I have run IT for one of the biggest intranets on the planet and we never allowed even Mictosoft updates until we did User Acceptance Testing and understood the impact of the upgrade. I am a grown up not a child, I have system where I test updates for performance, security and impact, I WILL DECIDE when I want to install it. If Mozilla wants to provide real security updates I would take them but if you look at the link in my OP you will see it said an update was security and it completely messed up.
Updates add tons of great new features
Actually with FFirefox in my experience they take more away than they add, things I did not ask them to take, they do not look at my config and leave my settings as they were and then tell me about new options, no they completely screw my productivity as it takes days to figure out how to undo the kwap they have added. Copying the AWFUL Chrome interface is not an improvement, Google has one of the worst UI's on the planet accross all their products.
Firefox is designed to be customized PER USER, NOT CROSS-SYSTEM
There are some things that benefit from being per user and some that are per machine, windows has group policies per machine and per user. My OP is telling Mozilla that this is another area where they have "designed" badly, I tell them this so that they improve it and in the vain hope that there is some config setting that will stop this nonsense.
So SuperSluether you have not really helped, all you seem to say is FO if you do not like it. Good job you do not run a business. With that attitude probably best you do not contribute. -
How do you make imessage work? We upgraded to verision5. The icon is there. You can type the message but the send button is not available.
There is some instability in iMessage. It is a versatile and confusing app even though there are so few options in its use.
I had issues trying to get iMessage work on both my iPads and my iPhone.
ON the iPhone, turning off WiFi service and then trying iMessage fixed the problem.
On the iPad 2, same thing. Turning off WiFi service fixed it.
On the iPad 1, I took a suggestion from zoomzoom and changed the WiFi network configuration on the iPad to use 8.8.8.8 as a DNS server and then use iMessage. That fixed it. Now I put the DNS back to default and it still works.
I suspect the iPod Touch will have the same fix as the iPad.
If you have a WiFi and 3G iPad or iPhone, try turing off WiFi and see if that fixes it.
Why? (beware, some of this is guesswork)
iMessage can talk SMS to cellphones and smartphones (that are using the cell-network). It can also talk Apple iMessage format to iPhones and iPads whether they are on cell-network or on WiFi. If you are talking to an SMS cellphone, iMessage figures that out and blindly sends your message. If you are talking to a iOS5 device, iMessage figures that out too, checks to see that they are on-line, and then does something different if they are or are not on-line. If you type in an email address, and not a phone number, I think iMessage attempts to see if the email address is registered with Apple (or iCloud or whatever) and if it is not, it does something to let you know, possibly by making the Send button not light up.
In order to register iMessage and an email, you have to let the iOS device see whatever service it is that iMessage uses. That is where the problem happenes. zoomzoom suggested manually setting the WiFi DNS to google's 8.8.8.8 IP address, then run IMessage, and that seemed to fix the problem. Setting the iOS device to use 3G-only (by turning off WiFi) also fixed the problem. I suspect going down to StarBucks or McDonalds and using their WiFi would also fix the problem. Once the problem is fixed, it doesn't seem to come back so I can't test these 'fixes'.
To change the DNS on your iPad find your WiFi networks configuration, click on the blue arrow, touch DNS, backspace over the number that is shown, type in 8.8.8.8 Then click on the WiFiNetworks button at the top of the screen. Now go run iMessage. After that, you can delete the DNS entry again and leave it blank. Your iPad will fill it in from the WiFi router when it needs it. -

The article referenced for partitioning the drive is not dedicated to Bootcamp--too long, too many options. How do you make it bootable?
If your BC Assistant shows the option to create a USB Installer, it automatically is marked as bootable. There is no need to have manual intervention to make a bootable USB. Once the process is manually modified, it is supported by the person modifying it.
You have two or three options (depending on your Mac Model).
1. Create USB... - Use a USB2 flash drive, which is erased and formatted. If your Mac supports ISOs then BCA will prompt for the Media. Any Mac which does not have a built-in Optical drive will support an ISO. There are specific Mac models which support both, DVD and USB based installation.
2. Download Software from Apple servers...
3. Install Windows...
