How do you make more space off of your hard drive?
I am trying to delete files to open up more start-up disk space, but I'm actually not sure how? I feel stupid..it's just that I truly don't know how to make more space or delete files. How do you empty your trash can?
To empty the trash, in the Finder click on the word finder and you'll see "Empty trash" three items from the top along with keyboard shortcuts to do it as well.
It's OK to drag files to the trash, but I think for applications you need to look at something like App-delete. http://www.reggieashworth.com/moreinfo

One place to check is the hidden Library folder under your user account. From the Finder Menu click Go > Go To Folder > Enter: ~/Library/
IF YOU ARE UNSURE DO NOT DELETE SOMETHING
You may be able to find refrences to old applications that you have uninstalled. There is another folder inside that one called Application Support (~/Library/Application Support/). Same idea goes here, old software folders can be safely blown away. Don't forget to empty the Trash!

You can use the same technique on the /Library folder aswell!

How can I open up more space on my external hard drive for Time Machine?
I have a 500GB external hard drive that I use with Time Machine. I believe I have half designated for Time Machine and the other half to use as an external drive to put whatever I want on it. My issue is that now my Time Machine back up needs more than 250GB of space.
How can I make more space available on Time Machine and less for the external half (maybe split it 400/100 for example) or just designate the whole 500GB for Time Machine?
Am I going to have to reformat the hard drive? I'm trying to do this in a way that I'm not going to risk losing what might already be on Time Machine...

AmandaI would also suggest you get a 2nd, much larger hard drive, partition it if desired, move your data to it, and start a 2nd Time Machine backup on it. You can set Time Machine to alternate between the 2 drives by adding the new drive to System Preferences/Time Machine. If you want to make a copy of your current backup on the new drive, you can do that using the Disk Utility Restore tab. If you chose to do that, make the copy first since using the Restore tab erases all data on the drive or the partition.

you could also clone the drive or volume, or just some of the user folders. look for carbon copy cloner, then enable the "use checksum to insure file integrity."
you can have multiple iPhoto Library catalogues in different locations.
Continue to use TimeMachine and make sure it has 350% or more capacity than your system and data. -

First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.

Firefox update while I was trying to resolve a issue with a brother fax drive to update for windows 7, now every time I go to firefox it pops up, "Do you want to allow changes on your hard drive" as if it didn't finish, so I answer "yes", firefox browser comes up, but if I get out and go back in it does the same thing.

But when I search it, nothingCheck that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator. -

If your hard drive is not full to overflowing with saved files, try (inside Photoshop) Edit > Purge > All. This will delete all the temporary files Photoshop has made during your work session.
Second step is to find somewhere else (an external hard drive, for instance) to use for long-term file storage.
