If im understanding you correctly, you want the folder to have an automatic landing page. Ex. If your folder is
"profile" you want the visitor to see the first profile page when they visit www.yoursite.com/profile. Correct?
If thats what you need, name the page you want your visitor to see when they go to ex. www.yoursite.com/profile "index.html" or "index.php" ad save that file in your "profile" folder. When you're visitor will go to www.yoursite.com/profile the page you named "index" will open.
Let me know if you dont understand or if its not what your trying to do.

The way I sync folders is this (I know it may not be what you are looking for).
But in iTunes you can pick a folder to sync to. For me I made a specific folder just for my iPhone.
Any pictures I want on my iPhone I put in that folder (copies).
And then in that folder you can create subfolders (to organize). Note though you can only go 1 subfolder deep. You cannot put a subfolder in a subfolder.
So for example:
C:\DATA\iPHONE This is the folder for my syncing.
I can create
C:\DATA\iPHONE\FAMILY
C:\DATA\iPHONE\FRIENDS
C:\DATA\iPHONE\ABSTRACT
C:\DATA\iPHONE\NEWYEARSPARTY
But I cannot create
C:\DATA\iPHONE\FAMILY\WIFE
Then you just put pictures you want sycned into them. Sort of better to work with copies and have a folder specific for the iPhone I think. At some point you will want pics removed from your phone and far easier to just delete them from the iPhone specific folder than if you went to route of syncing to the folder you actually store photos you want to keep forever on your computer. Having a specific folder with copies means you can delete and add at will and know your real memories are elsewhere.

If you mean folders for apps then press and hols one of your app icons until they all start to "wiggle" the drag them on top of each other to create the folder. The phone will name the folder but you can change this to whatever you like.

How do you make new playlists derived from previous playlists?

I seem to remember a time when I could open one of my playlists as a window, and could have several playlists open at once as windows, and could drag songs from one to the other to create new playlists. Is this capability still there? From what I see in order to create a playlist now I can only add songs from my full music database rather than from another created playlist. This is 10 times harder to do because the full music database has so many songs its hard to find what I want. What am I doing wrong.

You can create a new smart playlist (File > New Smart Playlist from iTunes' menu). You can put a rule in there such as Playlist Is [an old playlist you would like to include]. You can have several such rules.
