How do you make the layer mode take effect with no background in Elements?

I have a picture of water splashing over a black background (like this:
although this isn't the exact one). By turning the blending mode to "screen", I get the effect I want: it basically looks like the water is splashing over my image. The thing is, I need to save it as a .png file with part of the water "dripping" off the edge of my photo onto a transparent background (background must be transparent). The problem I have is as soon as the image hits the transparent background, the black comes back.
I need a way to either remove all the black from the photo or, more ideally, find a way to make the image I see in "normal" blending mode the same as the image I see in "screen" mode. Any ideas? (I have Photoshop Elements 7.0, btw)

I don't understand how you're using "screen" blending mode on a single image, but is this the effect you're trying to get (I used a blue colour to show the transparent area at the bottom of the image):
I used the free KillWhite plug-in (http://mikes3d.com/extra/scripting-plugins/killwhite/) with your image:
Converted the image to RGB. (Image...Mode...RGB Color)
Duplicated the background layer (Ctrl+J).
Inverted the colours on that duplicated layer (Ctrl+I), so that the black background becomes white.
Used KillWhite to...well...kill the white on that layer.
Inverted the colours again.
Used Enhance...Lighting...Brightness/Contrast as well as Levels to darken the water splash.
Added my flower image below the water splash layer and raised the bottom edge of the flower image to leave a transparent area.
My layers wound up looking like this:

How do you make the background of an object transparent in Adobe Illustrator?
I have been having issues with using the Magic Wand tool in Adobe Illustrator as well as the lasso tool.
Basically, I am trying to put a small graphic into a new Illustrator file.
The first thing I tried to do is to use the magic wand tool. But I found out that this did not work on a jpeg image since it did not have any individual objects to select.
So I tried something new. I opened the file in Adobe Photoshop and used the lasso tool to select an area. Then I coped this area. Then I tried to paste it into Adobe Illustrator. But the background was not transparent for the pasted image.
How do I make the background transparent.

Is the problem with the Bookmarks Sidebar -- the one you can open and close by pressing Ctrl+b? It does seem to have a minimum width and won't get narrower than that, but I'm not sure whether you are running into that limitation or whether for some reason you are not getting the resizing arrow when you mouse over the thin border between the sidebar and the page.

On the Mac, 'maximize' (the green button in the title bar) is +context sensitive+ - it expands the window based on the content of the window. If the content is not screen-filling, the window won't get any bigger than necessary. There's no 'global' solution to this for OS X, but for Safari in particular, the Saft plugin has an option for full-screen browsing.

I downloaded the AOM_Mac zip file from Adobe and copied the contents 1
Adobe Output Module and 2 Adobe output Module workspace to
Library/AppSupport/Adobe/BridgeCCExtensions. When I open Bridge the Output
Module shows in preferences under Startup Scrips, but not in the menu bar
or in the Window/workspace bar. So I can not access it. I'm thinking of
just not using bridge and just going with Lightroom and photoshop, as I

I know this question is old but I just found out the real answer. After you turn on the little switch on the left side of the HIPPIH AppsKey Keyboard and the blue light blinks, I want you to look just above it. Do you see that hole right above the word PAIRING? Go grab a paper clip and press down in to the hole for about 2 seconds. This sends a signal to the ipad and in the BLUETOOTH menu you should see "Keyboard" under DEVICES. Click on it and dialogue box will pop up asking you to put in a passcode for the keyboard.
It took me way too long to figure this out.

It does make sense. The iPhone is a one-person device and just syncs to one computer.
The way it should work is as follows:
Old computer content ---> New computer
New computer <---> syncs to iPhone
But the way you are trying to operate sounds like:
Old computer content ---> iPhone
... and ...
New computer content <---> iPhone
So simply move your old stuff (either directly from iTunes, or from a computer backup) to the new computer, have it all there, then sync your iPhone to the new machine.

Whenever I adjust a bunch of notes with the velocity tool, if they started out w/ different velocities i can never get them to the same velocity. How do you change the velocity of diff. velocity notes to the same velocity all at once?

You can do this easily in the inspector. Make sure the midi region you want to work with is the only thing selected in the arrange window. Then in the inspector set the dynamics to 'fixed', which will make all notes play at exactly the same velocity. Then using the velocity setting right above it, you can set precisely what this fixed velocity value should be for all notes. This is a non-destructive procedure, if you want to permanently apply these changes, use 'normalize region parameters' from the midi submenu in the arrange window once you've got it sounding how you want it. This will reset the parameters in the inspector back to zero so you can make further adjustments if you want, but all the settings you made will be written directly to the midi data. When you then open the piano roll, you'll see that all your velocities are identical.
