How do you make the open window as big as the screen?

When I open a window in safari it does not take up the whole screen. I have tried to maximize yet I still see the desktop in the background. How can I make the current window take up the whole screen?

On the Mac, 'maximize' (the green button in the title bar) is +context sensitive+ - it expands the window based on the content of the window. If the content is not screen-filling, the window won't get any bigger than necessary. There's no 'global' solution to this for OS X, but for Safari in particular, the Saft plugin has an option for full-screen browsing.

Click on the Hot Corners.. button and look at the four definitions. In the picture below, if you moved the cursor to the right top of the screen, it would slide all the applications off the screen as you describe and show the desktop. Set it to "-" to deactivate.

How do you make programs open and close into their own tab in the dock, like they do in windows?

You know in Windows, how there is a tab for each program in the taskbar? And, if the program is minimized, when you click the tab, the programs restores. And when you click the tab again, the program minimizes.
Can this be done on Mac?

Here's my ungrateful response...
I should have posted screen shots in the first place!
Here is what I'm talking about. In the first screen shot (in Windows), you can see that there are programs running in the taskbar, but all the windows are minimized. The mouse is hovering over the "Computer" tab in the tasbar at the bottom of the screen. I am about to click the left mouse button once to restore the "Computer" window onto the desktop, but I haven't clicked it yet...
In this next screen shot, you can see that I have just clicked the left mouse button once and the "Computer" window has been restored (is now showing on the screen)...
Then, WITHOUT MOVING THE MOUSE TO ANY BUTTON IN THE "COMPUTER" WINDOW, ETC, IE. THE MOUSE IS STILL IN THE SAME PLACE IT WAS WHEN I CLICKED THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON ONCE TO RESTORE THE WINDOW, I click the mouse button again and the window minimizes!...
All I'm asking is if anyone knows of a way to mimic this behaviour in OSX (in the dock) - either within the operating system itself, or with an addon app, etc.
Right now, as you know, in OSX when you click the program in the dock, the program restores, but then you have to move the mouse and click on the yellow button at the top-left of the program window to minimize it again. This is because once you click the program window icon in the dock to restore the program window, the icon is then removed from the dock - thus disallowing the possibility of clicking it again, without moving the mouse, to minimize the program window. I'm trying to see if there is a way so you don't have to move the mouse to toggle the window from minimized to restored to minimized again.
Or to be even more clear...
This next screen shot shows the desktop in OSX (mine happens to be Lion 10.7.5) and we can see that the Firefox program window is minimized into the dock into a Firefox program window icon. I have not yet clicked the mouse button to restore the Firefox program, but I am about to. The red circle at the bottom left of the screen shows where the mouse is...
Here, in this next screen shot, is the screen once I have clicked the mouse button on the Firefox dock window icon and the Firefox program window has been restored...
As you can see, the Firefox dock window icon that I just clicked has disappeared and, in that place instead, the red circle is now over a different dock window icon. The Firefox dock window icon is now missing from the dock and is therefore unclickable. If the Firefox dock window icon was still there, I could just click on it again to minimize the Firefox program window, and subsequently click it again to restore, and so on - like I am able to do in Windows.
I hope this clears things up.

Previous to Lion, I used to be able to go to a hot corner and all of the open windows in all applications would appear neatly side by side. Now I get stacks of windows grouped by application. How can I go back to the old way where every window was visible? This is helpful in Photoshop when I need to see all of the images I am working on and all of the images on my website in Safari.

You don't have a hot-corner for that anymore.
You use a gesture for that now. You can either 4-finger swipe down, or place the tips of your fingers in the center of your track pad. Your fingers should be bunched up and touching each other. To show all windows, expand your fingers, as if you were showing someone "5" on your fingers.

You do the same thing, but now your open apps are displayed in a window view. Swipe left/right to find the app you want to stop, then swipe the app up to remove it. By the way, this doesn't turn off the internet. It only removes the app from memory that may be accessing the internet.

How do you make menuTabs open a new inside the tab selected?

Hi all, I am very frustrated with menuTabs because it won't allow me to open a new page in menuTabs instead it opens my page outside of my tabs . I don't understand why this functionality is not available when all other tab controls function this way. I looked at the showOneTab component thinking may do the job.

Linking classes - How do you make a new window?

Im currently working on a project for my final course grade, however, it requires that we create a gui interface in java (JCreator) whilst linking it to a microsoft access database we made perviously.
I would like to know if it is possible to open/run/excute another class (either opening it in the same window / jframe, or more preferably opening another whole jframe) from clicking on a button in the origional class (which is the main menu, clicking on the button will open client details) if so, how?

I am trying to make photo albums and different camera rolls for the ipad and iphone. can anyone tell me how to do that?

I don't think you can in the native iPad Photos app. It's just where all photos save in camera roll. If I sync folders with pic from my MacBook, it syncs as a separate album in Photos, but I can't move pics between them. I've actually just downloaded an app that allows for sorting photos by creating links to the photos to place them in the folders you create--it does not make duplicates of the photos to do this, so no worries of using up space.
Anyway, the app is Best Album +transfer. Right now on sale for 99€ which was why I decided to get it.

How do you make an image a background image if the menu option is dimmed?

I'm using the Cork Board template in a Pages layout document. I wanted to use the cork background in another page. Option dragging the cork image creates a copy in the new page. I can "Send it to back" but the Arrange->Send Object to Background command is dimmed. The problem is that "Send it to back" does not put it behind the header or footer so my page numbers are not visible.
Oddly, if I just drag the cork image from one page to another, it remains a background object in the new page. Copying it causes it to come out of the background.
Anybody have an idea why the Send Object to Background command is dimmed?

In fact, my guess is that the cork.pdf object is a background object because it is a template transferred from Pages '06 to Pages '08.
During the conversion, some properties are passed even if they aren't treated by the new version.
If some one wish to let some of these items in the true background, as far as I know, the only available soluce is:
create a new object from the delivered template
unlock some items if necessary
remove useless items
lock back the kept item
save the document as a template.
Never change the background property of the kept items.
As far as an item is a "true background" one,
trying to move an other item to the background will leave it above the "true background object".

When you close Safari use the Control key so you see Quit and close windows. I always close opened Safari windows before quitting. And I always get my homepage with I open Safari again.

Hey, i recently bought an iMac 20.5' (i5) and it came with 4gb Ram
I am a music producer but the program i use is windows based, so i got bootcamp, all that works fine
but ive been working on a new song for a while now and the prgoram has an 'indicator' showing how much CPU usage % and ram is being used.
it is now at 1956mb! which should efffect because i have 4gb! right!??.. no it says (in windows sytem) 2.3gb (available)....
So i went out and bought an extra 4gb, followed the instructions and Ram went int easy!!. I log onto Mac and yep 8 GB Of RAM!!
so then i log into windows (through bootcamp ofcourse) and still 2.3 gb available....
anyone know if i can make more avaible?? or do i have to reinstall windows through bootcamp???

Windows installed using Boot Camp uses all your comptrer's resources.
Windows 7 32 bit can only use about 3 GB of RAM. The limitation is that 32 bits can not address more than this. If you want to address and use more RAM then you need Windows 64 bit.

How to I make pop up windows go back to the left side of the screen when they are moving to the right?

Whenever I click on a link, a new window pops up. That's good, that's what I wanted. They've always opened on the left side of the screen. However, they are now opening in the middle of the screen.
