How do you monitor direct through hardware?

Hello,
I am experiencing popping sounds when I record in a very simple setup and just want to monitor direct through my Motu Traveler. This will allow me to keep latency to a minimum and my buffer size relatively low.
Can you advise me how to engage this option on Logic 7??
Is it via 'Software Monitoring'??
Thanks,
Jason

Can you advise me how to engage this option on Logic 7??
First you have to deactivate "Software Monitoring" in Logic.
There must be an extra software by MotU for adjusting direct monitoring.
Don't know the name. Look in your Applications folder.

I am considering buying a new MAC laptop to run LOGIC for composition and band live/recording, but which one is best as I do not want to spend too much money?
Does it have a line in and how do you monitor sound?
Will I need adaptors and an interface?
Also, I am guessing as Logic only runs on MAC surely then they would not the best spec to recommend to run it?
I see all the upgrades as additional memory or a faster process?
Is a retina screen necessary, and why flash based storage against a 1TB hard drive, and a i5 instead of an i7
The main reason for this purchase is to play live and use backing tracks and record found sounds and make creative songs.
I hope you can provide some valuable feedback, as I am a longtime MAC user and see upgrades and changes happen regularly but the most important thing is the songs not the equipment.
I have £500 already and willing to add another 500 to 700 pounds, then software extra.

  • How do you monitor backup progress

How can you monitor the progress of a backup? I use timemachine and an external drive  to do my backups on my 09 Macbook pro. I want to be able to see the amount of files transferred and time remaining or any other pertinent info. Not just a spinning wheel.

I don't know, I use bootable clones myself and it shows me the progress of the backup and updating of files.
However I can point you to this guy who is the local TM guru
    All about Time Machine
If you want to learn more about all sorts of backups to diversify your restore options (TM can fail to restore properly), including bootable clones etc. then read my UT here on the subject.

I personally don't use TimeMachine, preferring the more advanced bootable clone options.

How can you monitor a directory using jndi connection to a ldap server? I
want the ldap server to monitor the content change in a file system
directory on another computer on the network. Can someone please help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Why do you want to use LDAP for Hard disk monitoring..???
U can do this by creating a MD5 checksum for all the files existing in some
    perticular
directory and every hour or any configurable period u can recalculate the
    checksum
to find out the change in the content.
I guess all u need is to get the code for "updatedb" utility of Linux and
    instrument it for ur needs..
    Hope it helps...

  • How do you say "Directions" to Siri?

How do you say "directions" to Siri?  No matter how I say it, Siri will say "I'm sorry Peter, but I don't know what you mean by "direct actions"". Or, Siri will say "I'm sorry Peter but I don't know what you mean by "diet actions"".
Here is another one.  How do you say "airport"?  Siri thinks that I am saying Apple.  So, if I ask "give me directions to the airport" it will give me directions to Apple in Cupertino.
I know that Siri is STILL in beta, but come on!  I cannot even go to an Apple store with this, because I am using T-Mobile (I've had an unlocked iPhone 5 since the day it was released, last November) and Apple stores are surrounded by aluminium and they do not yet have the T-Mobile repeater!

    Hey pforkes,
We have a troubleshooting article for Siri that you can find here:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Siri
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4079
I'd take a look at the section titled "Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you," which might help you out. We also have a more general About Siri article that provides some tips for using it.
    Hope that helps,
    David

  • HELP - how do you save pictures through the recovery mode?

How do you save pictures through the recovery mode.  I have the black screen with cursor and despite trying all the tips noted here nothing seems to fix the issue.  These have included using Utility disk to re-install OS-X, repairing the disks.  Also tried the holding shift on start up and entering username and password.  Also tried internet recovery and then repair and re-install.  Nothing works!
Happy to restore from a back up, but I have been rubbish and not backed up for a long time.  Also happy to delete and re-install completely but don't want to loose pics.
Please let me know any suggestions!!

That requires that you can boot the MBP.
Or to boot the mac using the time machine back up?
You can try using startup manager:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1310
But you still need a working volume where you can install the backed up data.
The good news is that since you have a Time machine backup, you can transfer that data to another Mac or clone:

  • How do you monitor audio?

I have a few questions about monitoring audio in my fcp/stp projects.
Currently, I have a g5 quad that has an optical toslink output, that I use to connect to the optical in on a good denon home theater receiver (avr 3801). This is how i output my mac's audio. I have two B&W bookshelf speakers as my monitor speakers.
Is this acceptable to use to monitor my sound for my editing projects? I am not doing much music work, mostly just voice track cleanup on my video projects.
How do you connect audio equipment in your setup to monitor audio?
I am thinking of buying an Alesis 12 track multimix firewire mixer, is this a better interface to use and do I route the signal from the multimix to the receiver to get to the speakers, or should I just get powered monitor speakers and connect them to the mixer?
Also, when editing audio, which is mostly dialogue, is there a volume setting I should keep my receiver at and just work the levels in stp to get the volume right? My receiver has a volume level from -60Db to 0 to 18Db. I am worried about setting my project audio to high or too low.

Giving advice such as saying <Your B & W speakers might be good enough for the job, their lineage is as a studio monitor for the BBC. If you paid over $500/pr, and they sound good, then they're probably good enough. You can use them with a mixer hooked-up to your Mac and outputted to the Denon like in your current set-up> is so cool, if that was the case would,nt you think for a quick minute they would be recomended by pro or advertise as nearfield monitor and not hi-fi.
<conveinient to buy active monitors.> that ain't the case active monitors are made for monitor audio interms of listening to frequency that would be imposible to hear on hi-fi speakers which is the opposite of hi-fi which is more colour-full and does'nt give the true sound, also because its self-power and easy to plug and play.
<The playback volume you use is relative. Most of the engineers I've worked with over the past 30 years prefer to listen back at higher volumes> most pro enginineer listen to mix at very low D.B so as to know exactly what there getting, and after crank them up to hear the over-all levels, any engineer that linsten at loud D.B. does that to show off in seeking attention fr. clients making them feel as if the mix or the song is all that, take it outside the studio and its a different story! <listen back at higher volumes than I'm comfortable with,> thats what i have just explain.
<As far as the levels within the track are concerned, that is all done in the software, again per your preferences, and with an eye on the meters.> it would be nice of you to explain what meter are you talking about, and if it was all so easy with eyes on the meter, dont you think every mixing engineer or anyone attempting to mix would all were glasses, meter in sofware aren't the same as the meters in a pro studio, nor is it the same in hardware, also not all meters are the same where as mixing is concern, they are special meters prefreable know as V.U. meters, check below and you'll all get a better understanding of what i have just out-line, before giving wrong advice of monitor audio.

  • How do you monitor Xserve 2009 with Mountain?

So, messing around a bit with Mountain Lion on my 2009 Xserve.
How do I monitor the hardware?  Server Monitor appears to be gone and trying to use the version from Lion is a no go.
This unit has Lights Out Management.  Aside from the IPMITool, how can I modify/configure LOM?
It would be nice to be able to monitor the hardware.
Boy, it is like Apple doesn't want to have servers or something..................................................
Um, so where is ipmitool?  Not in /usr/bin and not in the Server.app app bundle.

Just a note about Apple documents; It's important to reccognize that what Apple doesn't say is just as important as what it does say. For instance, in that article it simiply states "To administer OS X Server on Mountain Lion, use Server app version 2 or later on OS X Mountain Lion."
Not only does that statement say what you use to administer, it also says what you can't use. (Any other version of any other management software.)
This seems counter-intuitive to anyone who has used RAC or LOM on other Intel hardware because they understand that RAC/LOM is a firmware or hardware feature and really has very little to do with the OS. Dell, for instance, has a completely seperate PCI card that serves this function with its own network interface, power supply, etc. These methods of remote access simply don't care about the host OS or whether or not the host even has an OS.
This seems to be the case with Apple Xserves, though the NIC is shared, of course; there is apparently a third-party tool that will get to the LOM features of the Xserve, though I've never used it myself. (See above) So the defficiency in this case appears to be the management software itself. The "Server Monitor" app isn't compatible in some way with Mountain Lion and they didn't integrate that functionality into the "Server" app so it's broken.
Though if that were the case, you would be able to use Server Monitor on a Snow Leopard machine to access the LOM on an Xserve running Mountain Lion Server but you can't. So the Host OS must be doing something hinky there. (I vaguely remember an issue with NIC binding in Lion... I think it had something to do with LCAP?)
Anyway, it's just not working right now... I upgraded some workstations to Lion but haven't pulled the trigger on Mountain Lion yet and I won't be upgrading the servers past Snow Leopard Server any time soon... In fact I need to track down a few serial numbers before they're all gone!

  • How do "you" monitor event logs in SCOM 2012? Need opinions.

Fairly new to SCOM. Do you monitor all event logs? Just warnings and critical? How do you filter out things you don't want to see?
Looking for opinions here not just a "how-to".
    Thanks,

Steps in creating a Event based Alerting Rule.
    1. Open the Operations Manager Console.
    2. Go to Authoring.
    3. Under Authoring - Management Pack Objects - Select Rules
    4. Right click on Rules and select - Create a new rule
    5. Select Alert Generating Rules - Event Based - NT Event Log (Alert)
    6. On the same screen select your destination management pack and click Next
    7. Give a name to your Rule and optionally give it a Description.
    8. Rule Category can be anything you like.
    9. Select the Rule Target as the class of your choice, normally it can be Windows Computer.
    10. Make sure the Rule is Enabled and select Next.
    11. Select the Event log name from where event will be monitored and click Next.  (for example Application or System
    or Security)
    12. Build the Expression to filter the events with the below details:
         a. Parameter Name = Event ID, Operator = Equals and Value = (any event id of your choice)
         b. Parameter Name = Event Source, Operator = Equals and Value = (any source of your choice) (you
may delete this filter if you want)
         c. Click on Insert button at Top and it will put the cursor at Parameter Name, click square button
with 3 dots [...] and it will popup another screen.
         d. In that box, select the 3rd radio button named 'Use parameter name not specified above' and there
manually type 'EventDescription' (without quotes) and click OK.
         e. Then come back to filter screen, now here you will see Parameter Name = EventDescription, and
for Operator select Contains and then for Value you can type any word you want to key on from the Event description.
    13. After building the desired Expression, click Next.
    14. Configure Alerts as you like and click the Create button.
To get the Alerting event details. Go to Start menu and in Run window type eventvwr.
And put the details on the wizard as per the below screenshot.
    Refer: http://blogs.technet.com/b/operationsmgr/archive/2008/11/12/opsmgr-2007-how-to-create-an-alert-rule-based-on-an-event-description.aspx

  • How do you monitor your systems?

I'd like to be able to monitor my Ironport systems to be able to see
    * SMTP up/down on each interface
    * active recipient queue size
    * CPU/RAM/Disk use (as a %)
    * number of connections in last 5 minutes
    * ...In fact some of the data from the system status and system overview screens in the GUI.
But I don't want to manually log in to the GUI/CLI to manually check this.
I was hoping the SNMP interface would expose these counters then I can easily bolt the Ironports into my existing monitor system, set some thresholds and get alerted when something might be wrong.
Do you have automatic monitoring of the systems?
How have you set it up?
Right now all I have in place is checking via ping and that the SMTP port is open on the exposed interfaces. No monitoring of the system counters.

Corey, are your company using Hypersoft for mail tracking and reporting for the complete mailflow from IronPort-Internal Mail system-users mailboxes? We are using HyperSoft Omni Analyser for internal mailtracking and reporting (our e-mail system is based on Lotus Domino).
It would be great to have a solution that covers the complete mailflow. I have had a lot of phonecalls the last week with our salesrep from HyperSoft to find out what HyperSoft can offer. The salesrep seems to have a tight connection with HyperSoft development here in Europe and the IronPort add-on to their existing reporting sw is still under development and they need input for what functions and features we customers need. The MFC mail tracking is great, the reports are ok but IronPort has no soulution for monitoring system status.
I told Hypersoft that it would be nice to have a one tool for mail tracking, reporting and system status monitoring. I have sent HyperSoft mail logs from our IronPort for mail tracking and reporting and the demo reports look promising. In order to get systems status HyperSoft could either use the status logs for historical reports or use the XML pages provided (like ironportip/xml/status) or both.
Are there other interfaces IronPort provides in order to get system status, except for snmp? I look forward to feedback/ideas
    Thanks /Micke

  • How do you monitor internet speeds in Snow Leopard?

I use an Apple Airport Extreme to connect wirelessly to the internet. It is connected to a Thomson modem (TG585 V7). I've recently switched ISP's and am in the process of an upgrade to ADSL2 and I want to be able to check my internet speeds to make sure I'm getting what I'm paying for. The thing is, I don't know how to check on the speeds. If I was connected directly to the modem, I "think" I could check the modem stats (or so I've been told), but that's not the case.
SO - does anyone know how to check internet up/down speeds using Snow Leopard?
    Thanks.

    A few things.
This speed test tool gives you the results in both bits and bytes (bottom of the page) so you don't have to convert.
    http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Second, the Airport channel probably won't have much effect unless your signal is really bad. The reason is that your local wireless connection has a much higher capacity than your modem connection. The local network is usually not the bottleneck, your connection to the Internet is.
Also, my Airport base station has an "Automatic" option so that it picks the channel with the best signal. You could leave it on that.
Finally, you can monitor network throughput in real time by using your Activity Monitor and clicking the Network tab. You'll see Data received/sec and Data sent/sec.

  • How do you get sound through the dock connector to a PC or Mac?

Where I work they have blocked the Pandora website. (Along with just about every other online radio site.) They don't mind if we listen to music, as long as it's not streamed online through their network.
I have both a PC & a Mac on my desk.
What I would like to do is listen to my Pandora app from my iPhone by plugging the dock connector into a Mac or PC. This would keep the battery drain to a minimum & allow for better quality.
When I plug in the dock connector the phone starts charging & iTunes want's to sync. I can run the Pandora app, but no sound comes through the computer.
Does anyone know how to get the audio to come from the dock connector & play through the computers sound card?

    You have several choices:
    1. Composite AV Cable: has a dock connector on one end and USB, RCA line out and RCA composite video on the other. It also comes with an AC Adaptor.
    2. Component AV Cable: same as the Composite AV Cable but with RCA component video.
    3. Universal Dock: has a dock connector socket on it and a line out socket.
    4. iPhone 3G Dock or the (original iPhone Dock): same as the Universal Dock but designed just for the iPhone.
All you need is somewhere to plug the line out into.
