i installed data rescue II because i had to restart my hard drive and my information did not transfer properly to the external hard drive. im pretty sure data rescue recovered all of my files but the manual and help windows will not scroll down so i have no idea how to get my files back onto my computer. please tell me how to use this program and get everything back to normal.

Reformat a firewire drive after using data rescue 2?

I have used data rescue 2 to take all the data from a FW drive that my G5 can't recognize. Can I reformat the drive via journal extended and start to use it again? Mechanically the drive seem OK, and data rescue 2 was able to retrieve everything I needed.

We don't know what corrupted the tree, or if Zeroing will actually help, but it's easy to do it now, and improbable later... even though it "sounds" like there are no cars coming, it wouldn't hurt to take the time to "look" both ways before crossing the street! LOL
Run Disk Utility, select the whole Device on the left, click the Erase Tab, Click the Options button, Click the "Zero out Data" button, click OK, select MacOS Extended (Journalled), if not already selected.

How can I open my file after 'cannot find -filename-' error message?

OK, the bottom line is, InDesign crashes and I cannot recover my file. I get a 'Cannot find file' error message when I try to open the file.
I am using CS6 on a MacBookAir, OS X Yosemite.
I have tried finding the 'InDesignFileRecovery' folder, I cannot find it anywhere, it's not in my Library or Caches folder.
However, I do work in dropbox, so I just headed over to dropbox to recover from their 'previous versions'. It starts to get weird. There are lots of previous versions (I save very regularly) but when I download a previous version (that I know was fine) it downloads with a indd.txt extension. So I remove the txt extension and keep the indd and everything looks fine, but then that recovered file gives the same message. I tried renaming the recovered file and opening that, same 'cannot find file' error message.
I can open InDesign and open the file from the day before, but none of the dropbox earlier versions of that day's work. I am SO sick of this happening. It happened to me last week to, so far I have lost 20 hours work :-(
I have tried quitting InDesign and restarting the Mac, doesn't help. The only thing I can think of is to 'save as' every couple of hours, at least then hopefully I only lose 2 hours work.

Thanks, when you say 'hidden by default' then how does one find it? I have already tried the path you mention and there is no sign of a cache folder with Adobe files. Spotlight doesn't reveal anything either.

Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip and Evon all replace the original timecode with the date of modification. This is very frustrating when you are trying to keep the chronology right. I know that if you upload the files to iMovie from one device the chronology isn't a problem, but I'm adding video files from a couple of iPhones and a couple of camcorders. any help much appeciated.

That is a Windows Imaging format. It is unknown to OS X. It may be possible to open the archive using:

What is your camera model? Every camera has its own raw format and the raw converter must be updated to work with it. If your camera model was new in the past couple of years PSE 8 won't be able to open those files directly.

Try opening StuffIt Expander first, then dragging the .bin file onto the application's window; if StuffIt Expander won't expand the file when it's dragged onto it, the file may be incomplete or corrupt.

Are you sure it's a PageMaker file? It sounds like you might be uncertain. If you can make it publicly available (by e.g. sending it to yourself on YouSendIt and posting or emailing the link) then I could open it up in Notepad++ and see if it really is a complete, undamaged PageMaker file.

Docs to go will be in the Opearting System of the BB device, not on the Desktop software.
Unless you have OS 4.5 you cannot read the doc from either the media card or the device memory

It seems that you read wrongly the Numbers specs.
Numbers is able to *import many (not all)* XL files.
Numbers is able to *export to XL* format.
But *nobody wrote* that a document saved as a Numbers document would be readable in Excel !

WPA file extension is not supported on iPad. Perhaps the creator of the document can send you a .DOC or .DOCX file, which iPad can open. Alternatively, a PDF file would work also.
