How do you picture a Mentor?

Dear SCNer,
I would like to hear your opinion about the SAP Mentors program. I would like to know what are your expectations - to learn if you think the Mentors meet your expectations and if not, what could we do to improve it and much more (well, we will most probably will not be able to change the mentors, but can improve the ways how people think about the Mentors and their purpose).
I had my own expectations during the months here on SCN and now I know how out of truth they were. Took me weeks and months, thread, blogs, emails and comments to understand how it works, what is the purpose (and how it differs from my initial picture). Now I wonder if the picture how people (fellow SCNers) think about the Mentors and how the Mentors think about themselves match together.

Well, Otto - seems the thread has gotten a bit long, so why should I be shy about adding to the length? Length seems to be quite common with yours since many times you pose u201Chuman interaction or interest topicsu201D. I am quite a lurker because I like to hold off before entering comments to see where a discussion is leading and how sustained it is before jumping in and providing another cut on the topic. I think I have seen a good amount here and maybe by putting my two cents into the pot it will be somewhat valuable...
I am a bit more active than most in the SAP B1 Forums and have started doing a few blogs; let's say "stretching the wings" a bit. To be honest, I cannot provide any input or feedback as to how I picture a Mentor for the following reasons...:
Even though I have used the forums for some time, I am not versed well enough to understand what a Mentor is supposed to be or to do as established by the folks who started the Mentor program. You said yourself it took you months to understand it. Sorry, but I just do not have the time to do that u2013 a search produced 416 entries. Went to Wiki, but it is down, LOL u2013 I have got to do some catching up for the SAP B1 world in the blogging area! So, where does one find the definitive word of what a Mentor is? Providing that single piece of information might be a good starting point to your discussion because folks could say u201COK, Mentor is A and I feel as if it might be good for them to be G alsou201D. If there is nowhere to find that information, fine, because all of this is voluntary and it leads to the next question of...
Is there even a requirement for a Mentor to do anything at all in order to become or to stay being a Mentor? Maybe they are just recognized as being very knowledgeable folks in their areas, and that is great to know they have a lot of knowledge, but what kind of actions (or interactions) could I as a semi-newbie expect or anticipate or request from the Mentors? As an u201Coutsideru201D (non-mentor or non-mentee), I do not feel comfortable commenting on how I would picture a Mentor, unless I knew if there are even any requirements. I am sure I do not understand the overriding idea of how the Mentors think of themselves. I picture a Mentor as being one entity and they might picture themselves completely different. A Mentor seems (emphasize seems) to be one who is seen as being a great asset to SAP's communities and sometimes takes the time to post blogs, answer a lot of questions in the forums, because...
It is interesting to see how a discussion here has again turned into quite a bit of talk about the forums and has centered itself around some pretty common topics on the forums (u201Cparasitesu201D or u201Cthe qualityu201D or u201Clurkersu201D - Yikes! Like Me!). Since the forum is such a highly used area of SAP, I would think that the Mentor, by virtue of receiving the u201Clemon statusu201D in SAP, would be one person who would be concerned about how the forums are being used. I know this is not to be a discussion about forums, but it does add a viewpoint to it because...

Once pictures are moved from your camera to your iPad (using the camera connection kit), how do you get the photos off of the iPad? They do not show up in my photo stream or my iCloud. I am able to see any photo I took on the iPad using the iPad camera (in iTunes, photo stream, or when I open windows explorer and browse the iPad director), however I cannot see any photos transfered from my camera to the iPad. The camera connection kit must have put my photos in a directory I cannot get to and cannot sync.

What i did to combine an ablum was to change the album information so it is exactly the same as the one you want to merge it with. i did this and it worked. it has to be exactly the same, word for word. to edit the album information, right-click on the album and click "get info". a Box will appear. click on the 2nd tab to edit info. you can even change the album cover!
*note: this hasn't been tested for music downloaded from the iTunes Store.

How do you stop pictures from going into different rolls?

Everytime I transfer a picture into iPhoto it goes into a different roll. When it comes to finding these pictures, it can take a long time. Can anyone tell me how to make pictures all go to the same place?

Each import creates a new roll. You can't change this behavior.
You can edit your rolls. Select Library from the Source Pane. Go to View > Sort Photos > by Film Rolls. If rolls are closed you can Option-click on one roll's disclosure triangle to open all of them at once. Open the info pane at the lower left of the iPhoto window. Now any time you select a roll by clicking its title, you can edit its info in the info pane. You can edit the title, date, and comments. You can select photo(s) and move to another roll by dragging until a roll's title is highlighted, then drop. You can combine rolls or create new rolls.
I use large memory cards with my camera and import photos little by little, as I take them. I keep the photos from one card together in one roll. So each time I import, I immediately drag the new roll up to the existing roll for that memory card. This places those photos into the roll with the others, and deletes the newly created roll.

Go back to Library and drag the extra photos into the book collection.

Pictures can appear in any number of albums.
To move from one album to another, add the picture to the new album and then right click on the picture, select Remove from album and then select the album you want to remove it from.

This gets the photo over, but no versions, no edit history and not all the metadata

How do you move pictures from one catalog to another? I have just got the program and have moved pictures into the default catalog. I have now created several new catalogs and want to move pics from the default into the new catalogs. I don't see this answer in the general help or my "dummies" book.

It's not a good idea to create multiple catalogs. For one thing, this defeats the purpose of the Organizer as a way to search for and find your photos; the search can only operate within a single catalog. Also, there are no functions in PSE that work across multiple catalogs. And even though you can "manually" combine the catalogs if you so desire, you lose information such as collection/album membership, stacks, version sets, creations and a few other things.

I understand how to do green screen and picture and picture... but how do you do it in the same sequence.. so when you are speaking with a background picture and you want to add a picture or a story within that picture... there has to be a way to do that..

That is a great idea! So I just do everything to the clip involving the green screen. Export it to, say my desktop. Then import it back into iMovie. Then I will be able to add a picture in picture? Fantastic! Thanks so much!

Hi all gurus.
This must be the most silly question so far in the forum but I have to ask again: How do you remove a picture from a theme?
I uploaded a background picture for the Masthead Function Area but now I want to remove it. Since the correspodning field is blank when you go into the editor you can't erase the picture's URL
What you can do is to browse to, and choose, a new picture and then erase the URL in the field. The mentioned area is then actually emptied and the color set in the field "Background Color of Masthead Function" is shown.
But, and here is the problem, when you save the theme the picture is back again! Isn't there the possibility to show the background color, for which there is a field, instead of a picture? Do I really have to upload a picture just containing the color I want to have??? If so, that must be one of the most stupid functionaliteis I have seen in the portal so far, indeed...
I'm most grateful for every suggestion of how to solve this in a decent way and not the idiotic "replace picture with another picture" way.

Hi Raghu.
Unfortunately it didn't help. Their solution with writing "none" in the field is only applicable for those objects where you have a field determening ways of showing the object. There you have the different behaviours like "repeat", "non-repeat" and "none" and there you can write it directly in the field.
The field of which I am talking doesn't have these options and hence not "none". I still tried it though but it didn't work, the picture was back after saving the theme.

Events are organised strictly on date and time, as read by iPhoto from the Exif data in the Photo. You cannot manually sort.
Create Albums. You can do much more organising with Albums, use Photos from different events, place them as you will. Best of all, Albums use no disk space at all. They simply reference the file on the Hard Disk. So a pic can be 1, 10 or 100 Albums with no wasted disk space whatever.

I'm a new Mac user. How do you change the size of pictures in iPhoto? Sometimes when sending e-mails, the picture files are extremely large and take a long time to load... Is there any way you can make the picture or file smaller? Like on a PC, you can open the photo in the Paint program and just reduce the size... Is there anything like this for the Mac?

Assuming that you're accessing your email package from INSIDE iPhoto, you're given a choice of picture sizes. Personally, I've found "medium" to be a good compromise but you might prefer "small" (iPhoto will tell you the file size).
If you don't know what I'm talking about, first go iPhoto Preferences > General and select your email client. Then, go to the View menu and select Show in Toolbar > Email.
