How do you prevent sidebar opening in Safari 7.0?

I have just installed Mavericks with the upgraded Safari 7.0.  Now everytime I open a new tab, the sidebar opens.  I would likel to turn this off so that opening the sidebar is something I choose to do only if needed.  Clicking "Hide Sidebar" in View only acts in respect of the tab which is already open.  I could not find an option for turning this feature off in Safari/Preferences.  Is it possible to make this change or is this a new and unwanted feature that I am going to have to live with?

I think you will have to live with it - athough you can also show/hide it by clicking the 'bookmarks' icon at the left end of the favorites/bookmarks bar.
It should show per-window, and can be closed in one window without affecting others. It will be the same in any tab within one window. A new window seems to show/hide it based on the last one viewed.

Firstly, Adobe' Photoshop has the ability to save a color profile with an image. That color profile will be consistent across all versions of Adobe software. Problem is, Adobe does not make web browsers (and that is probably a good thing).
When you save images for websites, you need to go through the proper Photoshop or Illustrator dialog. You want to Save for Web & Other Devices. Why? because the applications will take the image out of CMYK color space (if it is in that color space) and make it RGB. They will also try to translate the colors in a sensible way. When you use this dialog, you will see various options for JPG, including ICC Profile. Turning this on or off will change how the colors get mapped, and some experimentation to get best results is a good idea.
I have it turned off, presently.
The image will be set up for 72 dots per inch automatically, and you can, then, resize the image to optimize it for the website you are working on. If you are trying to fill a hole for an image that is 350 pixels wide by 250 tall, don't save the image as 1125 wide by 1024 high. That will take a long time to download from your server to whatever device is displaying it. Your original image will not be changed and you can navigate your path to your defined website's images folder.
This should help you immeasurably. I should mention that If I am trying to match a background exactly, I will tend to knock out that color from the image, save the image as a .PNG file with transparency (where that particular color is) and place the image on the background in question with the background color I am trying to match on the website.

  • How can I prevent cookie notifications in Safari 8.0?

How can I prevent cookie notifications in Safari 8.0?
    They are so irritating.

I am in Europe. To protect the privacy of people using the web/surfing, on most websites when the first page is opened there is a cookie notification.
This is there to make people aware that there are cookies being used/installed. You have to click them to make the notification go away, let the website now you understand that there are cookies being placed. When not the notification stays in place. Some website have them on every page.
These notifications are totally irritating, I don't care about cookies them because I can always block them.
Now I want to know if there is a way/ piece of software who can filter out the cookie notifications placed upon websites?
Something like a Adblocker but then for cookie notifications.
    My browser is Safari 8.0.

  • How do you prevent Acrobat PDFMaker from rasterizing vector graphics?

I am using the "Create PDF" button (provided by the Acrobat PDFMaker in Acrobat X) to create a PDF from a Microsoft Word 2010 document.
This works fine, except that vector graphics in the Word document appear in the resulting PDF as raster graphics. (That is, when I zoom in, document text outside the graphics appears smooth, but the graphics are blocky; and text inside the graphics that should be retained as text - it's not converted to curves - is just pixels.)
The original artwork for the vector graphics is in CorelDRAW X6 (sorry, Adobe!).
I have exported the following files from the original vector drawing in CorelDRAW:
    - EPS (with TIFF preview)
    - Windows metafile (.wmf)
    - Enhanced metafile (.emf)
I can insert any of these files into Word okay (Insert > Picture), but the resulting PDF always contains a rasterized (bitmapped) version of the vector graphic ("line art").
From memory, this didn't use to happen in my previous working environment (Acrobat 8 Pro with Word 2003, using artwork exported from CorelDRAW 12).
How do you prevent Acrobat X PDFMaker from rasterizing vector graphics? Or is Word 2010 (or CorelDRAW X6) somehow to "blame" here?

    Transparency Flattening is being invoked.
From the Create PDF button, select Properties, what is your setting for Default Settings? Select High Quality Print

  • How do you "pause" an open application, like Mac automatically does when the memory is full?

How do you "pause" an open application, like Mac automatically does when the memory is full?
I would like to do so proactively when I am not using a certain program but need to keep it open, and I want to free up computer resources.
In other words, I want to keep a given program open, but stop it from "thinking".

There is an application that I can only open a set number of times before it expires.  Every time the program closes, you get one less use out of it.  I want to use it as long as possible, so I thought I would just keep it open all the time.  However, it consistently turns on the fan on the computer, so I imagine it uses a lot of resources.  I got the idea after the Force Quit program "paused" it once after getting overloaded with all the apps I had open.  It stopped the fan, and I was able to open it and run it again later with no problems.  The tricky thing with trying to intentionally overload the system is that it's a hit or miss on which open program the OS will pause (to my knowledge).

  • My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from automatically alphabetizing the song list.   I had a specific order of songs that I wanted, and Itunes somehow automatically alphabetized them.  Is there a way to turn that feature off, and/or get them back to the original order?   I also noticed that once a playlist has been created, I cannot manually changed the order of the songs from my desktop..  Any suggestions?

That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

  • Disable the pop-up message box "How would you like to open this file" to open pdf file??

    Hi,
is there any way i can stop the pop-up box displaying to open pdf file in sharepoint document library? Right now whenever i am trying to open pdf file, asking "how would you like to open"  Read only or edit mode. currently MIME Type is setup
    but still pop-up message box.
    Thanks in advanced!

    Hi ,
As far as I know, This is a default feature. and is not recommended to delete or deactivate this pop up.
This is a feature of office and there is a dll called owssupp.dll which is responsible for getting the popup to open.
You can go to IE tools> addon settings and deactivate the above dll (sharepoint open document class). But if you do so, then the other office office files which are word/excel/pptx etc.. would aslo gets affected and they also wont get the popup.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you view desktop mode in safari?

How do you view desktop version in safari in I phone 5

Depends on the site.  When on the mobile version of the site, look for a link to their desktop version.  If none is offered, it's not possible with Safari.
There are other browsers in the App Store that allow you to change the browser ID to somehting other than Mobile.  iCabMobile is one that allows you to set the ID to any one of many browsers, tricking the visited site into thinking you're using a desktop browser, thus automatically displaying the desktop version of the site.

You cannot create encrypted folders in, or encrypt folders with, Disk Utility.
You can create with Disk Utility encrypted disk images from folders. I assume that's what you mean.
The proper way to do it is by setting the immutable bit. Read here
    <http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/immutableflags.html>
about the immutable bits (and the trouble they sometimes create).
The user immutable bit (uchg) is the same as the Finder lock, as described above by X423424X. It's a weak lock, with only a warning.
The system immutable bit (schg) is more powerful. Once is set, the item cannot be deleted in Finder (even though Finder will ask for your password and may give you the impression that it can trash it; it will end with an error).
I set it in Terminal, thus
    $ sudo chflags schg my_encrypted_disk_image
and unset it also in Terminal
    $ sudo chflags noschg my_encrypted_disk_image
(Note that, when you unset the system immutable bit, the change won't be reflected immediately in Finder, but the item can be trashed nevertheless.)

  • How do you silence the opening chord when you turn on the iMac?

How do you silence the opening chord when you turn on the iMac?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I do not recommend you to disable the startup sound. It indicates hardware problems when your computer is not working correctly, so it is important to leave it turned on. What you can do is to reduce the volume in OS X.
Anyway, if you want to disable the startup sound, the easiest way is to turn off the volume in OS X.
