How do you properly disconnect a vga monitor?

I use a vga monitor at work about 2 to 3 times a week. I have a MBP 13, 2011.  I use it for powerpoint presentations.
I was wondering how do you properly disconnect it once I'm done?
I normally close out the application; turn off VGA, and then just disconnect.
I feel like this may not be the proper way to do this.  I've looked for some sort of eject, but haven't found anything.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you are switching between a monitor and a projector and the display resolutions are not the same as the MBP's then you should turn off the computer as well. I have found when using a projector that things tend to work best if the computer's display resolution is set to the resolution of the projector. It may not turn out to be necessary, but keep it in mind.

  • How do you center dialogs with multiple monitors. code, best practices

My existing code will take the pixel size of the java app, and using the size of the dialog, it will center dialogs perfectly in the center of the application. This is great for single monitors, but when multiple monitors are introduced it is a problem. With dual monitor, the dialog is split in half between the two monitors.
I should be able to determine which pixel/frame initiated the user's action; and then i am hoping to get some code or direction on:
    1. how to determine which monitor the user initiated the action on (knowing the px or frame location, how would i do this)
    2. how to center dialog on that monitor
if possible, it would be appreciated if you can provide some code; i cant find anything on determing pixel size of monitors and this seems to be a little bit of a project to do from scratch. open source, 3rd party, insight, guidance, all is appreciated. thanks !

  • How do you properly eport anamorphic 16:9

I have a canon gl2 and I can capture anamorphic 16:9 fine but whenever I export it doesen't seem to do it properly. It is as if the video is 16:9 but it letterboxed at the sides. Any advice?

If you work in sd anamorphic and export as per sequence settings you will see a 4:3 frame (the 16:9 anamorphic frame). That's how anamorphic is supposed to work. Anamorphic (in the sd video world) means 16:9 stored in a 4:3 frame and then 'morphed' to the correct aspect ratio on display. This aspect ratio adjustment usually takes place in either the dvd player or satellite/cable decoder if you have a 4:3 tv. If you have a 16:9 tv then the tv takes care of it.
If you're burning a dvd you just have to make sure that you flag the movie as anamorphic in dvdsp and you'll get a properly encoded anamorphic dvd.
If you want to export for web/computer use you need to use qt conversion or compressor to turn your anamorphic movie into a 16:9 one via the frame size settings.

  • How do you hook up a TV monitor to a second GFX card?

hi - after i learned that the Nv7800GT GFX card I ordered with my G5 dual core doesn't output to S-Video, i ordered and installed a 6600 card (which allegedly does). However now that it is installed, i can't seem to get it to recognize the TV monitor i've hooked up using the apple DVI to S-Video adapter. the system profiler just tells me "no display connected" on both of its ports.
Can someone please help me to set this up correctly? I want to use the 6600 to drive an external monitor or beamer.
thx for any help in advance!
    fj

Did you hit "Detect Displays" ?
yes. i notice that in the sys prefs only my cinema display (the one connected to the 7800GT) is shown. in my experience of using "extended desktop" mode, i would see a second display listed, along with several resolution options.
but in this case, i am not using a single gfx card with a second monitor hooked up. so why do i not "see" the second card in the control panel? (it shows up in the system profiler)

  • How do you properly switch off music?

I posted the following in the connecting forum but should have probably posted this here:
Usually when I'm finished listening to my music I use the remote and press the middle button once and it stops the music play and the iPod goes to sleep. Occassionally I'll notice that the player is on when I'm sitting at my desk. Is this the proper way to stop the music player and letting the iPod to sleep. I really don't want to do a full shut down and restart as I listen to it in shuffle mode and like to pick up where I left off. I just want to make sure I'm turning it off properly.

This is a hardware issue. It is likely that you will need to have it replaced.

  • How do you PROPERLY clean a DV7-1025NR cooling system?

I use a program called "Speccy" from Piriform and it is showing a temperature of 149 degrees on my video card (GeForce 9600M GT) and a temperature of 105 degrees on my CPU (Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8400). I don't know if these are high or not, but I have had this computer for quite some time and I know that to keep it in good shape it needs cleaning. My fan is not making any noise and I assume thats a good thing. I would like a printable list of specific (very specific) instructions or even better a video on how to accomplish this task. I am comfortable with the idea of disassembling my computer if I know WHAT and HOW to do it.

Well, for comparison purposes, our rigs seem to differ as to voltages. This was achieved on Auto (default) CPU V. setting. QPI V. sits at 1.20V's. Your CPU must have a slightly higher VID. As for CPU core temps, that isn't going to be much of a good comparison either (Zalman 9900 on the CPU), as my side cover which has a fan is off & currently using a 10" table fan since I'm doing so much part swapping & testing, & the room temp is only 19C, & the highest load temp on any of the cores I recorded was only 68C. At least the new beta bios cured the CPU Multi saving, but it did'nt fix the Cell Menu 'Read Only'. Still reads 4000 160X25.
Well I can boot up with those voltages as well, but when I go to run Prime95 it BSODs or just freezes.  I am running my memory at 1600MHz as advertised for the memory.  I will try out the CPU-Z H/W Monitor...  (assuming it is different then just typical cpu-z)

  • TS2363 How do you safely disconnect an iPod when you have this problem?

The 'safely remove hardware' on lower right of screen says " Windows can't stop your ' Apple iPod USB Device' beacause a program is still using it. Close any programs that might be using  the device, and then try again later." iTunes is closed and I cannot reopen it.

By now, you've probably turned off the computer. That would allow you to safely disconnect the ipod. If not - do it.
The usual cause is precisely as it says; a programme is still using, or working with, the iPod, and often it is your anti-virus software that is running a check on the iPod storage. It could also be any programme that you were using to modify a file that is on the iPod. For example, if you modify a photo (thta's on your iPod) in a photo application, and leave the application open, that may cause the issue.
But I notice one thing you said.
    KGFan wrote:

You should be using the eject button in iTunes, not the Windows one and you should eject before closing iTunes.
See the eject icon next to the word iPod.
Alternatively, if you have the sidebar showing, the iPod and the eject button will appear in the left sidebar.

  • I am new to mac.  I have a Mac Book Air with an external CD drive.  How do you safely disconnect the external drive when done without having to power off the laptop?

I know there is a way to safely "disconnect" the USB, I just can't remember what it is.  Thanks

    Hi kbstuckr,
Go to your Finder. You will see the drive listed with a little arrow with a bar below it next to the drive. Click on that to "eject" it.

  • How do you properly shutdown the OLite MA server?

Does anyone know the "proper" shutdown command for the OLite 10g Mobile Admin [Java] server? By "proper", I mean something other than Cntrl-Break when the DOS box has focus. I have not been able to find anything in the documentation on it, only the startup command. I would have thought there would be a rather obvious "Shutdown MA Server" option on the browser admin ui....
    TIA,
    Scott

    My classpath is
    C:\>set classpath
    CLASSPATH=D:\oracle\sdk\MOBILE\CLASSES\OLITE40.JAR;D:\oracle\ora92\MOBILE\CLASSES\OLITE40.JAR;D:\oracle\ora92\Mobile\CLASSES\AQLite.jar;D:\oracle\ora92\Mobile\CLASSES\AQOracle.jar;D:\oracle\ora92\Mobile\CLASSES\AQCommon.jar;D:\oracle\ora92\Mobile\Server\bin\webtogo.jar;
But seems it is not matter. Class com/evermind/server/OC4JServer is included to oc4j.jar and we have added it in paramters -Djava.class.path=oc4j.jar
    Well, check in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ {SERVICE_NAME}\Parameters
    1) "Current Directory" should be like D:\oracle\ora92\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\home\
    2) "JVM Library" should point on something like C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
    3) finally "JVM Option Number 0" should be -Djava.class.path=oc4j.jar
You can also try to execute service using yours login.

  • How do you properly tag linked images when importing XML content?

I'm importing content from an Access database into ID CS2 using XML. So far so good with the text and numbers--I'm having difficulty with the graphics, though. There's an image associated with each record and I want InDesign to place the appropriate image in a placeholder frame.
Right now I have a field in the database which contains the relative path to the image file for each record, but when I import the XML into ID, the link is displayed as text in the graphics frame.
    How do I solve this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Give the path to the image as an attribute href.
    example:
<image href="../my/path/to/the/image.jpg">  (if the path is relative to the indesign-file)
    or
    <image href="C:/my/path/to/the/image.jpg">

  • How do you properly propagate permissions on an xserv 10.6.8?

I finished setting up my school computer lab with xserv 10.6.8. The client macs were logging in to the servers into their groups, all sharepoints were fine except that the users weren't able to save anything to tthe server, getting an error saying that the client didn't have permissions to see administrator. So I used Server admin, selected both hard drives and propagated permissions to all the items in each drive. I checked every box on the dialog I got when I selected propagate. I don't know if I shouldn't done that, probably not, in any case, after I did that the clients were able to save their files to the server. Now the server will not boot, and stays on the grey apple logo with the spinning gear. I was so happy and excited I was able to set it up until this happened. I booted from an external drive and ran DiskWarrior but it didn't do much, I also ran Disk First Aid and it said it repaired the disk =, then I ran the repair permissions on both drives. I hope it works when I go back to school Monday. This mess was as a result of clients not being able to save anything to the server, so I thought it was a permissions issue. Any help or assistance on this matter will be deeply appreciated.

What OS are you running? If 10.7 or later, Rosetta isn't an option.
Look on the Snow Leopard DVD, Rosetta was an optional install.
