How do you put your songs onto a new computer?

My brother and I just got new laptops, and we want to take our library from our home computer onto our own computers. The thing is, I'm not sure if I plug my iPod into my laptop, the songs might erase and just dissapear. How do I take our library from our home computer and put them onto 2 authorized laptops without erasing them from our iPods or the home comp?

Copy the songs onto an external hard drive or a USB flash drive. From their copy them to each new computer. Once they are there, add them to the library on each new computer. If the music contains any "protected" files from the iTunes Store, authorize each laptop to the account(s) from which the songs were originally purchased.

If possible, deauthorize any computers you still have physical access to that you know you had previously authorized to play your iTunes purchases. Otherwise, you can always use the Deauthorize All option described in this article.

You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again.
