How do you re-install iPhoto on OS 10.8

I am getting an error message when I try to launch iPhoto.  It says I can't launch iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  I recently installed iDVD from a later version of iLife because it did not come with my retina display macbook pro.  I am not sure if I messed up iphoto in that install... but i have been reading all of the threads on what to do.... and everyone says to reinstall iphoto.
There were no installation disks with my computer because it did to come with an optical drive.... how do I reinstall?

Never mind.... i just discovered i can reinstall from the app store...

Depends how you installed it in the first place! If you installed from a disk, reinstall from there. If you installed from the App Store or it was pre-installed, go back to the App Store and install from the Purchased tab.

how do you combine multiple iphoto libraries and clean up duplicates

If not the only answer is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager -http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and maybe duplicate annihaliator -http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18748/duplicate-annihilator
You must have IPLM as stated - you may also need DA depending on how thing go with the merge

  • How do you copy your iphoto library to ext. hard drive?

I am sorry to ask this lame question, but: How do you copy your iPhoto library to an external hard drive, just to back it up? I'm confused, because of three things: a) I can't seem to find, in iPhoto pref's, where you select what the "path" is to the library; b) in the iPhoto library folder on my computer (which is NOT on my boot drive, but a different internal drive..) the newest "year" folder in there says 2005, yet we have imported many newly-taken photos for the last 3 years, AND c) in the user>Pictures folder there is a "file" called iPhoto Library, but I can't quite figure out exactly what that is, what it does, etc.
So, I apologize, but if someone can help me figure what I would like to think should be a very simple backup, I would be grateful. Thank you very much.

I am sorry to ask this lame question, but: How do you copy your iPhoto library to an external hard drive, just to back it up?
Drag it to the external drive
    a) I can't seem to find, in iPhoto pref's, where you select what the "path" is to the library;
There not one - you change the path by launching iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and using the select library option to repoint to a different libary - however you would not do this to a backup library - it would just be a copy
    b) in the iPhoto library folder on my computer (which is NOT on my boot drive, but a different internal drive..) the newest "year" folder in there says 2005, yet we have imported many newly-taken photos for the last 3 years,
This is probably an unused older library - a backup for a previous version
    c) in the user>Pictures folder there is a "file" called iPhoto Library, but I can't quite figure out exactly what that is,
That probably is your iPhoto library and it is probably not a file but a Unix style "package"
Launch iPhoto and in events view select a photo and right click (control click) on it and select the show file option to see the path to the currently active library - I find the column view the easiest to see the path

  • How do you move your iphoto library to an external hard drive--step by step because I dont even know the basics--Help!

I have no more space on my hard drive and my computer keeps freezing.  I would like to move my 10,000 photos from IPHOTO to an external hard drive but dont know how to do it.  I am reading answers to similiar questions but dont know how to do even the simplest instructions like "after you quit Iphoto how do you copy the iphoto library from our pictures folder to the external disk????"  Ugghhh I have no idea how to do this.  Please help a busy mom of three who sits here for an hour and just spins her wheels!!!

Make sure the external drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled), quit iPhoto, drag the iPhoto library to the external drive, depress the option key, launch iPhoto and use the select library command to select the iPhoto library on the external drive
Fully test the library. Once you are sure it is totally ok delete the old library - test one more time prior to emptying the trash
Check and make sure that your backup system is backing up yor external drive

  • How do you change an iphoto size to 300DPI high res for exporting

How do you change an iphoto  to 300 DPI high res for exporting to email?

Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing.  Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How do I de-install iPhoto 11 as it is not working

How do I de-install iPhoto 11 from my computer?  It is not working; just bought it and want to go back to original iPhoto that I had on my computer before installing.  Please help as I can't get into it and can't save any photos or get to my photos.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the
    Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • How do you clean install CS6 on a new PC Win7 64bit system?

How do you clean install CS6 on a new PC Win7 64bit system?
I think I've upgraded all th way from Version 7.

There is no problem. If no previous, activated software is detected on the system, the upgrade installer will simply revert to its secondary mode and request to input the old serial in a second step for verification. Unless you do some exotic crossgrade/ sidegrade stuff, this should work with no problems whatsoever.

  • How do you re-install OSX on MBA?

    So, just out of curiosity
Does the MBA come with any installation DVDs?
How do you re-install them if you need to do so?
Is there a possibility to restore the OS to
    its original factory settings?
    Regards

    Hi,
as every Mac it comes with installer DVDs and you can install these either
    a) via the optional superdrive
    b) via remote install / disk sharing
If you take a backup directly after installation via SuperDuper, Carbon copy Cloner or TimeMachine you can restore that state easily.
    Cheers,

  • How do I de-install iPhoto 5.0.4?

My iPhoto 5.0.4 seems completely blocked and/or corrupted and takes forever to load. I've copied my photo library and am prepared to re-install iPhoto from the disk that came with my computer (Powerbook G4), but shouldn't I de-install first? And if so, how?

Are you sure the problem is with iPhoto? And Not with your Library? Here's a simple way to check:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the library in the main account.

  • How do I re-install iPhoto?

I upgraded my macbook to OS X Mountain Lion, but now my iPhoto can't be opened. It says that I may need to re-install it. How do I do that?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • How do I re-install Iphoto only ???

Hello and greetings from Southern France.
I cannot open Iphoto, after trying to copy my old version to the newest one (.which I should'nt have done !!!) as I have replaced my MBP by an Imac..
Message saying there is "a problem" and that I might have to re-install Iphoto.
I think it's the thing to do...but how do I go about it ?
You will have guessed that I'm no computer expert !!
What I think I should do is:
    1. discard the Iphot app that won't open, and which has never been used, into the dustbin
2; start the Mac from the installation CD, but then the question is: will I be able to re-install iphoto only or shall I have to install the whole OS ?????
I've tried to get a SIMPLE answer from the support info, but what I read is much too complicated for me.
Many thanks, even if the question looks stupid !!
