How do you re-install Lion

I bought a SSD and want to install that instead of the internal HD from apple in the MBP.
I don't want to clone by computer since there are issues.
I want to install in fresh Lion onto the SSD and then use Migration Assistent.
How do I install Lion since I don't have a disc?

Did you upgrade the firmware just recently?
You should be able to do internet recovery, give it a shot. If not, we can sort out another solution.

How do I un-install Lion and return to  Leopard?

I believe you mean to return to Snow Leopard:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • How would you re-install lion onto a crashed or new hard drive with no install disk ?

lets say my hard drive crashed or i bought a new one and wanted to install OS X Lion, due to it being a file you download , would you burn it to a disk or toss it onto a flash drive?

You could use either. There already has been posted information on the procedure: Burning A Lion Boot Disc.
Oh, I should add: it would require a Dual-Layer DVD or an 8 GB USB flash drive. You can also clone it to an external or internal hard drive or partition on a hard drive of around 10 GBs.
Cloning to disk drives should be done using Disk Utility or Carbon Copy Cloner. As of now SuperDuper! is an unknown. Use Disk Utility to burn to a DVD.

  • How do I re-Install Lion

When Lion first came out I had to go and purchase a USB version to do a clean install as the upgrade had errors that made the Lion upgrade unuseable.  I now have a need to re-image my iMac as my Calendar (which is the second most important program I use) was corputed by iCloud versions and pops up thousands of reminders every minute. I attempted to fix iCal to no avail. There are also startup issue where I have to go in safe mode and repair permissons etc etc.  Anyway it needs to be a clean installed to get rid of the 4 or 5 show stopping issues I have.
Problem is where I believed to have put my Lion $75 USB stick, it's not there.  When I go to install from a DMG I created on the Hard drive from the USB, the process wants my Apple ID and looks at the apple store and says that I haven't purchased it.  I have the reciept
How do I re-Install Lion without paying another$33.
Mind you it's still cheaper than $300 I paid for my windows 7

I use Tim Machine and then back that up as well.
Tried this... It goes into the apple recovery and I choose recovery and asks for the Apple ID and I can't proceed as it tells me i've not purchased it.  But I have just not through the apple store.
In the Lion Recovery  It says Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. What's this mean?

  • How can I re-install lion via usb drive on my new mba(mid-2011)?

how can I re-install lion via usb drive on my new mba(mid-2011)?
I just removed all data from main hd, and my network is not good enough to be able to download the os via recovery hd re-installing way.
in other words, is there a bootable [mac os x lion dmg] for my mba that I can download?

If you are looking for a download link for OS X Lion, I do not know of one. However if you really need the operating system you can buy a USB drive with OS X Lion on it, ready to boot. I think they're $69 at Apple's store. What I would do is contact AppleCare via the Express Lane or just call them and tell them your situation and then they will definantly have an answer for you to point you in the right direction.
    Good luck!

Don't downgrade OS X without first erasing the drive. You cannot restore a Time Machine backup of Lion directly on top of a later version of OS X such as Mountain Lion or Mavericks.
When you "Restore from a Time Machine Backup.", the drive will be erased for you, but yes, won't hurt to:
Boot into Recovery (hold ⌘R on boot)
Utility->Disk Utility->Erase Macintosh HD, then Repair Macintosh HD
    Quit Disk Utility
Then Select: Restore from a Time Machine Backup.

  • How do you clean install CS6 on a new PC Win7 64bit system?

How do you clean install CS6 on a new PC Win7 64bit system?
I think I've upgraded all th way from Version 7.

There is no problem. If no previous, activated software is detected on the system, the upgrade installer will simply revert to its secondary mode and request to input the old serial in a second step for verification. Unless you do some exotic crossgrade/ sidegrade stuff, this should work with no problems whatsoever.

  • How do you re-install OSX on MBA?

    So, just out of curiosity
Does the MBA come with any installation DVDs?
How do you re-install them if you need to do so?
Is there a possibility to restore the OS to
    its original factory settings?
    Regards

    Hi,
as every Mac it comes with installer DVDs and you can install these either
    a) via the optional superdrive
    b) via remote install / disk sharing
If you take a backup directly after installation via SuperDuper, Carbon copy Cloner or TimeMachine you can restore that state easily.
    Cheers,

  • How do you erase mountain lion to install snow leopard?

Hi, My mother now has a new to her late 09 mini that originally shipped with snow leopard. When she bought it it came with mountain lion preinstalled from a private seller. We were thinking that to be on the safe side that it might be better to erase and install what's on it just to be sure it is secure. I tried to erase and install snow leopard from a disk but it says that the installer is not compatible with this version of osx(mountain lion). Question: How do I erase mountain lion and install snow leopard?
I've read here that there is possibly a built in recovery disk that I can use to erase and reinstall mountain lion. Q: Is there a built in recovery disk available in my situation? and if so should I use it or be even safer by installing snow leopard instead?
    Thank you,

I think I found the answer (from sl install disk use disk utility to erase then install sl). Thanks for looking.

  • How do I un-install Lion? Don't like it and I've lost the use of my website editing tool (Dreamweaver 8)..

They've also removed Spaces! This was one of my most favorite operating tools so want to go back to Leopard.  :-(

Only if you have made a backup before installing Lion.
Time Machine or a bootable clone of Snow Leopard on an external harddisk ?
Have a read here http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/14.html on How-to do it then.

  • How do you reload mouton lion

how do you re reload moutainlion when purcased from app stroe

All depends on the age of your Mac and what version of OS X originally came on it and whether Mt Lion is currently installed.
You use the Recovery HD partition, hold down the Command + r keys at startup, to reinstall Mt Lion if it is currently installed. You can also use Disk Utility from that same Recovery HD boot to wipe, erase, the Macintosh HD partition before you do the reinstall.
But if you are planning on selling or giving your Mac away you need to reinstall the original version of OS X on it before you sell or give it away. You can't do that with Mt Lion installed as that version of OS X is tied to your Apple ID and can't be transferred to someone else.
Why do you want to do this and what model year is your iMac. The anwser to those questions need to be known before anyone can give you proper instructions.

  • My HDD has failed.  How do you re-install OS X to a new drive?

When trying to install Mountian Lion, I discovered that my HDD has failed.  I can boot into my Windows partion but not into OS X.  I am fine with installing a new HDD myself but how do I get OS X back onto it?

Well, you have no choice but to find your original Disks, there are two: An Install Disk & an Applications Disk. If you can't find them, you'll have to call AppleCare to get replacements.
If you had a clone of your system, this would be easy, so next time keep a bootable clone handy. When you get your original disks, you can then use disk utility to format the drive, then reinstall SL, update to 10.6.8, then redownload Lion. Once you download Lion, make a USB install stick BEFORE you upgrade to Lion. That way, you're covered if something like this happens again.
