How do you rearrange footage in project bin

Once I have imported my footage how do I rearange them in the project bin. I can't seem to grab a clip and move it into the
position in list I want ( similar to arranging clips in PP or FCP ) Thank you

You can't arbitrarily order entries in the Project panel. You can order items by any of the columns (e.g., by name, type). You can also order by the Comment column. When I want a specific set of items to be ordered in a custom order, I add tags to the Comments field and sort by that column.

Can't. Thanks be to Apple who have removed 100 features from Pages 5, and added a stack of bugs.
Your previous Pages should be in your Applications/iWork folder.

How do you rearrange photos in a folder by file name on an ipad?

I don't believe it's possible under the standard "Photos" app (built-in) in iOS.
However, there appear to be many downloadable apps that will allow you to do this. Search the App Store for something like "photo sort".

  • How do you share an iMovie project to DVD now that iDVD not available

How do you share an iMovie project to DVD now that IDVD not available on iMAC? Thanks.

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and Blu-Ray but without the nice themes.

  • How do you merge 2 iMovie projects?

How do you merge 2 iMovie projects together? I have a 2 yr old iMac with iMovie 2011. Thank-you.

That's an easy solution. However you did not consider the harmful effects of the additional compression. Please consider that the "raw" video is already compressed before it leaves the camera. Then again as it's exported from iMovie the first time. After merging the projects (with your technique) it get compressed a third time. And perhaps a fourth time if the movie is burned onto a DVD.
I'm very familiar with the loss of image and sound quality due to excessive compression, because I produced 43 separate makeup application tutorials for a manufacturer's website. Everything was fine until they decided that they also wanted me to combine all of them onto a DVD. My video was shot at high-def so that wasn't an issue. The issue was how to combine all 43 videos without a substancial loss of image quality?
I tried the obvious method (proposed by elikness) and found that my text graphics (still photos) suffered the worst - literally jagged black text that looked almost blurry. So I replaced all my graphic panels and burned the DVD. My client was satisfied. I was not. God only knows what the 90-minute (combined) DVD will look like after they've paid somebody to make 10,000 copies.
    thank you - robert

  • Analysis Paralysis: How do YOU manage your media projects?

How do YOU successfully manage your media for various projects and select portfolio work?  Mine has become a quivering dysfunctional mess over the past two decades!
    Goals are to:
    - permanently link to InDesign portfolio documents
    - display by project on iPhone and iPad without internet connection (ideally in Photos which is a nice feature currently)
    - be used for web pages (resizing ability of high res files)
    - easy retrieval of ALL project photos and selection of CHOICE photos.
    - better (simpler and more effective) importing methods and file management
    - no more duplicates
    - utilize Dropbox or Box auto-uploads of iOS pictures (not essential but desirable)
I want to love iPhoto (11), and I've been using it in various iterations since its inception. Due to numerous advances, other automated methods of dealing with media, and continual poor judgement, I now enjoy a COMPLETE MESS of media, with 14 gig of duplicates, triplicates, and quadruplicates scattered throughout an SSD drive. Not only am I running out of space, links to my InDesign portfolio (which is essential for client presentations) are continually broken every time I open it.
Thus, I'm considering exporting all my iPhoto images (5,000+) and starting over. Not trivial, but seems necessary—but want to do this right! Either with iPhoto, or anything better. Inherently, I distrust iPhoto's method of filing since finding things later via a Finder search is impossible, unless the file is named.
Any guidance is welcomed. Especially file management. How do you deal with ALL project photos and then CHOICE photos for a portfolio. Do you put them in one dedicated folder with sub folders, or are they located in separate project folders, with their own folder. Do you copy into iPhoto, or link (which has been a nightmare in the past).
Have you found something that works?!?! Any and all references to articles or your own methods is welcomed!

    Yoüf
    You write
    A) Whether iPhoto is currently stable, reliable, and adequate to entrust portfolio work for a design professional? (you suggest no, but some might ask, "why not?")
    B) If not, what are better methods for media management that offer some of the nice benefits of iPhoto
Could this be of any help :
Photo Programs: I'm generally loath to recommend specific software, but some of the programs mentioned in these articles include:
Breezebrowser (Windows) www.breezesys.com a commercial thumbnail viewing program that I use for many jobs, including batch entry of IPTC data and batch resizing of images (of note, it is not a photo editor, I have it linked to Adobe Photoshop for editing).
XnView (Windows) or XnViewMP (Window/Linux/mac) www.xnview.com a freeware program very similar to Breezebrowser with full IPTC/XMP implementation.
Zoner Photo Studio (Windows) free.zoner.com is another IPTC/XMP compliant thumbnail program with many capabilities, with both free and paid (more features) versions.
Adobe Photoshop (Windows/mac) (www.adobe.com) is generally considered the premier photo editing program. It's very expensive and for most users the much less expensive Adobe Photoshop Elements is all that is needed.
NOTE: Adobe has released all their CS2 software as freeware - this includes the full version of Photoshop. While a few versions old, it would be a good starting point to learn Photoshop if you don't have it or Photoshop Elements on your computer. You can download it fromwww.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/
Irfanview (Windows) www.irfanview.com is notable both because it's a good photo editing program and it's free.
Picasa (Windows/Linux/mac) picasa.google.com is a good photo organizer program, easy to use and free
It is taken from the excellent

  • In the contacts folder, the favorites, how do you rearrange them? Say bring the bottom one to the top?

In the contacts folder, fovorites, how do you rearrange them? Say bring the bottom one to the top.

Hello ... and thanks for  your response.   But I have discovered a couple problems.  And I am sure it is "operator error"
I used your method #1.  The first window that popped up stated that it was making a temporary copy of the catalog.  This took about 20 minutes.
Next, the window showed thumbnail photos on the right and a list of folders in my catalog on the left. The catalog contains folders stored on my LapTop, as well as my external hard drive.
There appeared to be a distinctive difference between those photo folders stored on the external hard drive and those on my LapTop.   The folders on the external drive were named as I have all my folders named: Date_CustomName.  The folders stored on my LapTop were named as: Lightroom_5 Backup_Date_CustomName or some such combination and my memory is foggy on the actual use of underscore, slash marks, dashes, etc.
I searched the list closely, and the Folders without a reference to "Lightroom Backup" were not showing.
So as a test, I "added" to the new Catalog one folder from the external hard drive and two from the LapTop.   After the transfer, the new Catalog had accurately named my external hard drive and the folder within in and the photos and their edits transferred accurately.   The other two folders were not named but listed shown in the library module as grey boxes as images with indications of editing.  But when I clicked on it, there was a notation that popped up that the file could not be found.
    Any ideas?
I am going to create a second new catalog and try your option #2 now.
    Thanks

  • How do you save an iMovie project as a file?

how do you save an imovie as a windows file?

You first have to format the External drive as Mac OS Extended. This can be done with Disk Utility which is located in the Utilities Folder inside the Applications Folder. Once formatted as a native Mac OS drive, iMovie will allow you to 'turn on' the visibility of the external drive. Make sure to make the hard drive visible in the Events Library by going to the View Menu > Group Events by Disk. In the Projects Folder you should also see the same drive.
Drag your Project folders to the external drive icon in the Project Library. Also drag your Event Folders to the external drive (but make sure to drag it to the icon that is visible in the Event Library, don't drag it to the Project Library drive icon).
This dragging operation will 'duplicate' your Project Folders and Event Folders on the external drive. So to make space on your internal drive, always delete the original folders AFTER you make copies of them on the External drive. In the future when you are importing video into a New Event, make sure to choose the external drive as the location for the the New Event folder. Similalrly create a new Project Folder in the external drive location in the Project Library.
iMovie doesn't have save menu, it auto-saves in the background continuously as you work on the Project. That way you don't lose any work by forgetting to save the project.

how do you burn off a final project onto a dvd disk....do you need idvd or dvd studio pro?

can i just export my project into toast and then burn it off?
Yes. Toast is capable of doing the compressing/encoding, multiplexing and burning, although in tests that I've done, Toast's encoding quality isn't nearly as good as iDVD, Compressor or DVD-SP.
do i need to compress it?
Toast will do that for you.
or do anything else to it?
Use good quality media. Stay away from poor quality brands like Memorex.

  • How do you share code across projects?

I'm a newbie to Java and am wondering how best to do this: I've created a Java class that implements javax.faces.validator.Validator to do email address validation. It needs to be shared with other projects so they, too, can validate emails. Should the class be wrapped in a JAR file? If so, how do you do this? Thanks.

That depends a lot on what tool you are using to write code.
Most IDEs have the concept of 'dependent projects', where the contents of one project are added to the classpath of another. When I use these sorts of things I will usually isolate just the code that several projects share into their own project, then make it a dependency for other projects. How you do that is IDE specific so read up on your IDE's manual.
If you aren't using an IDE, then yes, you should build a JAR file and add that JAR file to the project's classpath. Search google for help on making JAR files and setting classpaths, there is a ton of how-tos out there for each...
