Need to change a setting but can't figure out how to access (it's not through iChat preferences) nor can I get to it thru my iMac account?

The iPad charger is dual voltage. You need only a plug adapter to be able to plug your US charger into a European wall outlet. A basic one costs about $2.00. - $6.00. Like this...

Which version of the OS do you have ?
iChat is "matched" to particular OS versions.
Broadly an OS version has an iChat version.
For example Leopard (OS X 10.5.x) has iChat 4.x.x
Lion (OS X 10.7) has iChat 6
More specifically iChat gets it's updates in some of the OS Updates (not everyone)
So by the time OS X 10.5 has got to 10.5.8 iChat has got to version 4.0.9
iChat 4.x.x will only work in OS X 10.5.x even then you have to have the specific Updates to the OS and iChat together
iChat 4.x.x cannot be used in Snow Leopard (Upgrade) or Tiger (Downgrade).
Reinstalling involves the Install Disks and the correct COMBO Update od the OS version you are on to "Update" the reinstalled version to the OS level.
Instructions for version 3.x.x through to iChat 5.x.x
iChat 6 in Lion (OS X 10.7.x) requires you to use the Apple Recovery process.
The same applies to Messages in OS X 10.8.x

How are you handling keyword sets?

After spending a little time keywording tonight, I like both Stamping and the "Assign this keyword to selected photo" options. Both are faster and easier than I anticipated. :-)
The one speed bump has been keyword set creation. It appears to limit each set to nine keywords. Is that right? If so, I guess you could divide long sets into several nine-word subsets. But if you want them in alphabetical order, what happens when you add a new keyword to the set? Wouldn't you need to shuffle everything that follows?
My temporary solution has been to create sets in the left Keyword Tags panel using "child of" nesting. This keeps that panel -- which otherwise sorts alphabetically without regard to category -- better organized and shorter. So far, I am keywording entirely from that side.
Does this make sense? If you need long sets or deep nesting in your sets, how are you approaching keywording? BTW, the more I use it, the better I like LR.

Alexander, what I'm asking about is how people handle long sets. If a keyword does not fall into the natural short-list category described by Mike, that doesn't mean you only use it "occasionally."
Suppose you regularly photograph species -- flowers, birds, animals -- or football teams with 85 players on a side. You don't want to type every name or drag and drop, do you? As Steve Jobs said of using a stylus: Yuck. Or Ick. Or Blech. Or whatever he said. :-)
The best solution I've found is to nest the lists in the left panel to shorten the panel, and then select images, twirl down the nested list to the desired keyword, and cmd-click to "Assign this keyword to selected photos." But that adds a step to the (IMHO) faster, easier system in Bridge.
Just asking if others have found a quicker way.

ITunes on a home network. How do you have it set up?

Anybody out there running Windows Home Server and iTunes? How are you doing it?
Here's what I'm doing so far...
I recently purchased an HP MediaSmart Server EX470. I have it all set up and connected with my three CPUs (desktop, laptop, and mediaPC). The server came with Firefly which allows music (music only) to be streamed to itunes in a shared music folder. The music shows up in iTunes under the shared label and one is able to play music from the server. But that is it. All you can do is stream the music through iTunes, nothing else. I want to be able to edit my music library through all three computers and having it set up this way doesn't let you do that. So, I tried something else.
First, I mapped the music folder on the server as a network drive and then pointed iTunes on each computer to that folder. Next, I copied the iTunes library folder (which includes the .itl and .xml files, and album artwork) to the music folder on the network. Then, I opened each iTunes on each computer, held the shift key down, and opened the iTunes library file on the network. Viola! A shared network iTunes library on three home computers, right? Here's the kicker. I can only have iTunes open on one computer at a time. Can anybody think of a work around?
I guess I could have three libraries on the server and then sync them using Sync Toy, but that seems like a little much. Anybody else out there in my same boat? I'd be extremely interested in what you have set up.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to work either. When I'm at work and wanting to open a data file that is being used by somebody else, I'll get a message stating it I can't open it or only do a "read only" copy. iTunes essentially does the same thing on my network. Once you open iTunes on a second computer, your edits to the .itl file won't save.

You can read about it in the TS help but the keys are this:
Locals.MyWatchExp = RunState.Engine.GetWatchExpressions(Nothing, Nothing,0).Insert(Nothing) will set Locals.MyWatchExp to the new Watch Expression
Now you can start setting the properties:
Locals.MyWatchExp.AsWatchExpression.Expression = "Locals.Foo",
Locals.MyWatchExp.AsWatchExpression.BreakpointType = 0x1
Then change Foo and away you go.

You can't. Password is required & the only time not required is within 15 minutes of use. Password is no longer required for App updates.

Don't let other people access your Mac in admin mode - they might change something a lot more important than the Desktop picture.
However you can use Automator: create an Application in it, and select 'Set the Desktop Picture' from the Library. Choose the picture you want. Save the application, then go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items and select the Automator application you just created. This will then run at startup and set your chosen picture.

How can you use iChat or Jabber in a small office

We currently use "Quick Conference" which allows you to see who is logged in at startup, immediately send them a message without doing anything else and it just "works". You don't have to drag them somewhere or invite them to anything.
I don't see any way to use Jabber or iChat the same way.
Looks to me like I have to start up Jabber every day and "Invite" EVERY employee every day? With only 21 employees, that's still onerous.
Also, I've read about using Safari as a bookmark for ChatRooms but that requires naming a Chat. I see nowhere to do that. I can "start" a new chat and invite others to join, but that's a LONG way to go each and every day for the same people.
I just want a simple, internal communication system that people don't have to do anything with but select who they want to send amessage to and hit it....
Any more than that and I'll stay with Quick Conference.
Am I looking at the wrong product??

Both the AIM buddy window (Buudy list) and Jabber can make 'calls' to the outside world.
The Main Buudy List (AIM) can only chat to people via the AIM servers.
Jabber can work just on your local LAN if you set up a Jabber sever. It can also connect to other Jabber users through a Public server. More info here

How do you configure the set of port to use for FTP passive data connection

I was able to start the ftp server xml db and connect to it locally. When I tried to connect to it from home, I was able to log in but when i do a "get" command the sessions hangs. I also tried passive mode and do a "get" command and it gives me a connection refused error. I am using the default port 2100. I think this might be a firewall issue with the data connection port. I am not sure which range of ports to open for the passive ftp connection on the server side or where to go and set them for for the ftp server to use? Or this issue might not be firewall related??? Any thoughts. Thanks.

This is a typical problem with VPN/Firewall software and FTP on ports other than 21.
When you open the FTP data connection the FTP Server identifies which port the data will be sent on using the PORT command which is sent on the command port (typically 21 with a normal FTP server, 2100 by default with XDB). THe client then opens that PORT to accept the data (file, output of an ls etc).
As I understand it most VPN/Firewall are configured to monitor 21 for 'PORT' requests. They then understand to allow connection on the PORT number passed on the command PORT. Hence with Port 21 firewall / VPN software is not a problem. However since the XDB command PORT is something other than 21 they do not see / honour the PORT commands from the server and hence the client cannot open the data connection on the specified PORT
As to how to solve it, I wish I knew (After 5 years I still can't use XDB FTP from home to a machine in the office once the VPN tunnel is open :( ). I'm sure it's going to be firewall / VPN software specific and may need the VPN servers to be configured.
The best bet would be to run the FTP server on 21...

How can you Play Flickr set in exact order

I am using the apple tv screensaver with photos from my Flickr set. I want them played in the exact order. ATF seems to randomize them. Can I fix this?

Create an Album, Sort it how you will (View -> Sort Photos).
Select all the pics in the Album
File -> New Slideshow

How do you create action sets in PSE9?

I'm trying to figure out how to create my own automated action sets in PSE9. When I go into the Action Player section in the right hand panel, there is a "Tip" that states the following:
"Tip: Photoshop Elements includes some action sets for you. You may also add your own actions. Please consult the Help file for information on creating and adding your own action sets."
I cannot find any reference in the Help files for how to do this. Can anyone help with this?
