How do you remove a deleted user's cyrus mailbox?

Hi everyone,
I am having a little trouble with a user's account on Mac OS X 10.4.8 Server. This is a short description of what has happened.
1. Created a user in WGM.
2. User then sends and recieves lots of email over a long period, with no apparent issues and uses the webmail interface as well as pop3 mail application on home PC (as expected!).
3. User uses webmail one day and discovers a server error in red writing.
4. Semi intelligent server admin guy (me) decides to delete the user account in WGM and then re-create the user in WGM in the hope of deleting the mailbox in the process.
5. Semi intelligent server admin guy discovers that the delete/re-create procedure doesnt remove the mailbox so he decides to search apple support forums.
Hence the reason for this post. Can anybody show me how to delete the mailbox for a user, either in GUI server admin or WGM or even terminal?
Also I have tried adding the diradmin account to the list of cyrus admins in imapd.conf so that the IMAP application can access all mailboxes but I only get read access, so I cant delete it that way, well unless I skipped a step.
Thanks in advance,
Kyran McGlasson

Yes, I saw that but was a tad puzzled. I see in your help file that you advise creating a new user for imap administration, but (lazy me) I just plugged my server admin into the imapd.conf file and did not create a separate user. My thinking was that the OSX Server mail manual states:
1 In Server Admin, select Mail in the Computers & Services pane.
2 Click Settings.
3 Select the General tab and select Enable IMAP, if it is not already checked.
4 Select an existing user or create a new user using Workgroup Manger to be an IMAP
administrator.
5 If you have not created a user record for the mail administrator’s account, see the user
management guide.
6 Open /etc/imapd.conf in a text editor.
If you are not comfortable using a terminal text editor like emacs or vi, you can use
TextEdit.
7 Find the line that reads “admins:”
8 Edit the line to add the UID number of the administrator account after the colon.
9 Save your changes.
10 In your email client application, create an account that uses IMAP to connect to your
mail service using the mail administrator name.
For more information, see the man page for imapd.conf.
And therefore I didn't think a separate user necessary. However, even using their method, I cannot connect to the folders via a client, so I gather you are correct!
So, I create a separate user, name him "imapadmin" or some such, mod the imapd.conf file accordingly, restart, and then . . . how do I give my new imapadmin the necessary permissions?
I can, by the bye, delete folders using the direct Cyrus Admin method spelled out on pterobyte's site here:
http://downloads.topicdesk.com/docs/ProperlyDeleting_OS_X_Server_MailUsers.pdf
Thanks for the quick reply (on a Saturday!) and for crafting this very cool GUI.

  • How do you remove or delete templates

I have unused custom templates but cannot remove them from chooser. Any solutions out there?

    Hi James,
No documents get removed by way of the Chooser, or the Save or Open menus. Removing is always done in Finder - safer that way. I assume what you mean by "remove" is to send it to the trash, not to be seen again under normal circumstances.
Each User Account has it's own storage location for Custom Templates, so we begin at the User Account level in Finder.
If you are using Snow Leopard, you then go to the Library folder in your User Account. If you are using Lion, you hold down the Option Key and Select Library from the Go Menu.
Once in your User Library, go to Application Support, iWork, Pages, Termplates, My Templates, where you should see your custom templates.
Now just drag the one you don't want anymore to the Trash.

How do you remove deleted apps icons in App Store in purchased area?

You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, but you should be able to hide them from the Purchased tab via your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If your iPad is on iOS 7 then after hiding them on your computer you may need to log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in for them to be hidden from the Purchased tab

  • How do you Remove a photo from the camera roll album without deleting from other albums

How do you Remove a photo from the camera roll album without deleting from other albums

If it was originally on the camera roll try this: take another unimportant photo for test purposes, copy it to any special folder you have created within Photos, connect your iPad to your computer, locate it as any other external device, and most likely that Photos folder will be the only thing that will show up, locate the photo, delete it and then sync your iPad.
If the test photo is gone from the camera roll but still in another folder within the app then you know that the system works so go ahead with the process. I understand that there are other photo apps which might let you achieve your goal much quicker.
    Hope thi helps.

  • HT3386 How do you remove part of a file. My thumbnail attach themselves then refuse to allow editing without deleting my complete work. I even scan in jpegs of my documents and it incessantly adds blanks I can't remove.

How do you remove part of a file. My thumbnail attach themselves then refuse to allow editing without deleting my complete work. I even scan in jpegs of my documents and it incessantly adds blanks I can't remove.

Pages documents are organized in sections. When you click on the thumbnail for a page, the section containing that page is selected. The Delete command applies to the selection, so if you press delete at this point, the selected section is deleted.
You can separate a section into two or more sections by inserting a section break at the end of the page before the page you want ot be the first in the new section, then inseritng a second section break where you want the second section to end. Click on the thumbnail for any page in the new section, thenpress delete and the new section will be deleted.
If desired, you can then reconnect the two remaining sections into one by deleting the section break between them.
An alternate is to select any floating objects on the pages you want to delete, then press delete. After that, select the text on the pages you want to delete, then press delete.
If all objects on these pages (and al objects on pages following these pages) have been placed as Inline objects, this deletion may be done in a single step. Floating objects placed below the deleted material will maintain their position relative to the top left corner of the first page of the section,m and will not be in the same place within the text as they were before the deletion.
"I even scan in jpegs of my documents and it incessantly adds blanks I can't remove."
If your jpegs are inserted as inline objects, each will be treated as a single, large character in the text. You will see the same space left and right of the object as you would create by increasing the height of one character in the line of text to the same size as the height of the jpeg image.
If they are inserted as floating objects, then depending on the Wrap settings, they may force text out of the space to the left, right, or both sdes of the object, as well as forcing a small gap above and below the object. If the scan includes excess white space around the graphic, this white space will be included as part of the object

    Barry.

  • How do you remove telstra messages and go back to visual messages on iphone

How do you remove telstra messages and go back to visual messages on iphone

Should be pretty easy as follows:
1 - Make sure you have copies of any pictures you want that are inside Aperture somewhere on your computer.
2 - Quit Aperture > Remove any Aperture icon from dock > drag the Aperture program (lens icon) from Applications folder to the Trash > proceed through any warning dialog (including entering password as required) to complete the process.
Note - new security features in OS X Lion may present those warning dialogs to prevent accidental deletion of Apple programs.
3 - Hold down the 'Option' key and use the 'Go' menu in menu bar and select the 'Library' option.
4 - In the Library folder, open the 'Application Support' folder and delete any Aperture folder found.
5 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Preferences' folder and delete both the 'com.apple.Aperture.plist' and 'com.apple.Aperture.plist.lockfile' file.
6 - While still in the Library folder, open the 'Caches' folder and delete the 'com.apple.Aperture' folder.
7 - Go the your 'Pictures' folder and drag the 'Aperture Library' (may be named Aperture Trial Library or similar) to the Trash to delete it as well.
8 - Empty the Finder Trash to remove Aperture.
Note - there are some files and Aperture folders in the '/Library' folder (which is in the root of your system drive), but you don't really need to remove those. Since you are a beginner, it is probably better not to for now.
    That should do it.
Additional edit: There are two Library folders I am referring to. The first is the one in your user account 'Home' folder which is the one you are going to by using the 'Go' menu. This is the one you are deleting files from in the steps listed. The second Library folder is the one in the root of your system drive and is not typically a location for beginners to work with (thus the final note above). Hope that is clear enough.
Message was edited by: CorkyO2 to add clarity concerning the 'Library' folder.

  • How do I remove or delete a page from a Section?

How do I remove or delete a page from a Section in Pages?

The blank page is not blank, there is something on it like a return or word space, or a page break or return on the previous page that forces over to the "blank" page.
Menu > View > Show Invisibles and delete it.
Think of a word processing document like a scroll which you view through a set of frames (the pages).
The scroll is filled from the front and flows through as many pages as necessary to accomodate the text in the main text area between the margins.
Pages has one quirk however which catches out many users. Floating objects stay on their absolute page, the one where they were placed. If that page no longer exists because the text no longer flows that far, the floating objects are no longer visible. They are still in the document but off the end page, much like objects moved completely off the page to the right or down are still there but not visible.
So if you want to make sure floating objects are entirely removed from the document delete, or move, those first, then select the text on that page by dragging over it or shift clicking from top to bottom and hit delete.

  • HT201322 How do you remove hidden purchased apps permanently?

How do you remove hidden purcased iphone applications (Apps) permanently?
When you delete the app from your iphone and also the from you Mac computer, they are just hidden and not deleted pernanently !!!!
There isn't and option to allow you to do this. Maybe this is a safeguard to secure and not to accidently delete purchases but as with most delete functions 2 or more levels can be built in with confirmation at each to minimise this but ultimately the user's need the option to completely temove all unwanted items purchased or not.

You can't delete the purchase record as far as I know.
You can hide it from reappearing as a purchase to download:

  • How do you remove unplayed podcasts in iTunes 11.1

How do you removed unplayed podcasts from iTunes 11.1?  The new version lists all of the available podcasts, including those that have already been played.  As a result it is necessary to scroll through very long lists of podcasts to see what is available on the next podcast.

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization.  With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options.  If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast.  I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why?  How is this making it a better program?  I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was).  But to not give users the option to delete that list?  It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating.  I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature.  It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway?  There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions.  Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution.  I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.

If you mean from the Safari menubar item "Popular"
Choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmark menu in the main menubar, or click the icon for that in Safari's menubar -
The page that opens should show a list of Bookmarks. In the Left column, click the item under Collections named Bookmarks Bar.
In the new view, locate the folder named Popular and click the reveal triagle to the left of its name - it will open and reveal all the items listed in Popular.
Find the one you want to remove, click it once to select it, then press the Delete key on the keyboard.

how do you remove back up data from the memory storage? my storage data states that i have over 80gb of data used for back ups and i dont know why as i use a external hard drive as a time machine .now my 250gb flash storage is nearly full.. HELP!

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.

  • How do you remove multiple email messages at one time

I have a iphone 4 and today it started piling up over 4000 undeliverable messages for no apparent reason. I somehow managed to stop the process but I am left with over 4000 messages that I need to delete. How do you remove multiple email messages at one time. I can "mark" all the messages at once but I cannot find the move or delete button to trash the messages. Can some one help me out.
    Thanking you in advance.

Just figured it out - I can select multiple messages as you suggested when I am not in full screen mode.
So once I come out of full screen mode - then the multiple windows open.
