I clicked Free Doanload on a podcast. Now I want to delete it. It doesn't show up in iTunes under podcasts under ATV. How do you remove it?
For that matter, the ATV is trying to sync podcasts that I have not asked it to sync. How do you reset the prefs so that it forgets this action?
Some bugs here and there ...

Actually, there is a little trash can next to the title which I never noticed. You select it and the download goes away. Nice touch.

It used to be easy to remove the blue dot just play the podcasts for a second in more recent versions of itunes it is harder one has to play it for longer and half the dot is left. How do I select a dozen podcasts and mark them as used. I mean remove the blue dot.

How do you removed unplayed podcasts from iTunes 11.1? The new version lists all of the available podcasts, including those that have already been played. As a result it is necessary to scroll through very long lists of podcasts to see what is available on the next podcast.

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization. With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options. If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast. I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why? How is this making it a better program? I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was). But to not give users the option to delete that list? It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating. I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature. It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway? There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions. Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution. I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.

Try swiping the downloading progress indicator, which presumably says "Paused" now. That should give you a "delete" option on the right.
If not, try syncing your iPhone using iTunes.

new directions:
1. go to itunes
2. click applications
3. right click on the application you want to use
4. press show in windows explorer
5. Copy the ipa to desktop
6. right click and press open with
7. open file with winrar, winzip, what ever, something so you can see all the files
8. open iTunesMetadata.plist with PLIST EDITOR
9. search for "itemId"
10. Delete the number under "itemId" in between </integer>
11. leave One number remaining. (any number)
12. save.
13. double click your new ipa
14. sync
15. No more update badge
DONE.
remember to backup everything you change. just in case.

My music was taking up too much space so I joined itunes match, but the 6 gigs of my music is still on my ipad. They both appear in Music and I don't see anywhere to remove all downloaded music. If I delete all music, I fear it will delete all music in iCloud. I assumed by joining iTunes Match that I would get the 6 gigs back for other items since my music should be on iCloud now. If that is not the case then I need to get my $ back for Match.

Removing music from an iOS device does not remove it from the cloud.
Go to Settings > General > Usage and tap Music (you may need to scroll down in the list). Swipe across "all music" and tap DELETE.
