How do you remove a non-existant folder from the sidebar?

I am having trouble removing a file from 'places' in my sidebar. The file doesn't exist any more. I cannot drag it out nor can I highlight it to 'get info' to see if it has somehow become locked. I hope someone can help.

You don't have to highlight it, simply Right or Control click the offending item and select "Remove from Sidebar."

Read All on this one.
The Disk or the Installer .dmg that you got for this should have an Uninstaller included.
On a Disk it may be a separate item.
However sometimes it is an option choice during the Install screens.
The web site for the app should also have instructions (in rare cases the Uninstaller is on the web site)
Common "all user" add-on Preferences Pane are stored in Had Drive Name/Library/PreferencesPanes
The ones that come in the OS are in Hard Drive Name/System/Library/PreferencePanes
Note the Path Bar displayed across both pics. (Finder > View Menu > Show Path Bar).
You also have a User Folder version Hard Drive Name/Users/(your account name)/Library/PreferencePanes (~/Library/PreferencePanes)
You have to use the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type (Copy from here and Paste there) in the Dialogue box that appears (use the ~/Library/PreferencePanes option)
There is a good chance this one is empty.
Broadly speaking though the more complicated the processes behind a Preference Pane or app the easier and better it is to remove it with the correct Uninstaller.

I Think that you had a corrupt email or an email with a really large attachment in that folder and it is now causing the mail app to crash. When the app closes and goes back to the home screen, that is an app crashing. I would try to delete this folder on the server. Log into your Gmail in a web browser and try to delete it there. If you delete it there, that will delete it on the iPad.

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link. Are you using a Windows or a Mac? What you're seeing (the backwards L shaped menu) is probably the Canon Quick Menu. If you have a Mac you can go into your applications, select Canon Utilities, then drag Canon Quick menu to the trash and empty trash can. On Windows you'd go to the control panel, select Programs and Features (or Uninstall Program/Add or Remove Program) and uninstall the Canon Quick Menu. Not required for all the normal functions of the printer. You can do the same thing for My Image Garden. Also not required.

The apps are not actually in your iCloud storage, they are links to the apps in the App Store. What you are seeing is your purchase history and as such cannot be deleted.
You can however hide your purchases, which you can do from the QuickLinks > Purchased option from the main page in the iTunes Store on your computer.

I want to move one (1) Photo Folder from one Catalog to another Catalog in Lightroom 5 and my laptop (no external hard drive involved). I have already started the editing process in Catalog #1, but due to the size of the Catalog #1, I want to move the current job and future work to a new Catalog.
Currently the backup feature takes an hour to complete. There are also significant delays during large image edits.    So I am thinking, that by moving over to a smaller Catalog, Lightroom will work faster.

Hello ... and thanks for your response.   But I have discovered a couple problems. And I am sure it is "operator error"
I used your method #1. The first window that popped up stated that it was making a temporary copy of the catalog. This took about 20 minutes.
Next, the window showed thumbnail photos on the right and a list of folders in my catalog on the left. The catalog contains folders stored on my LapTop, as well as my external hard drive.
There appeared to be a distinctive difference between those photo folders stored on the external hard drive and those on my LapTop.   The folders on the external drive were named as I have all my folders named: Date_CustomName. The folders stored on my LapTop were named as: Lightroom_5 Backup_Date_CustomName or some such combination and my memory is foggy on the actual use of underscore, slash marks, dashes, etc.
I searched the list closely, and the Folders without a reference to "Lightroom Backup" were not showing.
So as a test, I "added" to the new Catalog one folder from the external hard drive and two from the LapTop.   After the transfer, the new Catalog had accurately named my external hard drive and the folder within in and the photos and their edits transferred accurately.   The other two folders were not named but listed shown in the library module as grey boxes as images with indications of editing. But when I clicked on it, there was a notation that popped up that the file could not be found.
Any ideas?
I am going to create a second new catalog and try your option #2 now.

I know ipad albums are more like tagging photos rather than putting them in folders. I just have a nagging feeling I missed some pics and I have too many to try to go figure out one by one. I don't look at my photos from the camera roll, only from albums I tagged just because I imported photos from different sources and the dates and order is really messed up. I just want to know that I am viewing all the photos from like this vacation or that event and there's none I missed that are only in the camera roll.

I was testing setting up a user with a Network Home Folder and everything was working fine until the external drive that was housing the Share Point (automountable, set to be used for user home folders) went down and became corrupt. As this drive was just being used for testing purposes, there was no backup and it wasn't a big deal (or so I thought). My problem now though — I have a "ghost" entry in the Workgroup Manager/Accounts/User (any user)/Home listing for the afp network home mount. If I select it, the option to remove it is grayed out, so I have no way to remove it from the listing.
Does anyone know how I can remove it from the listed? I've tried mounting a new drive, naming it the same as the old drive, and creating the Share Point again in the hopes that it would "relink". But, that didn't seem to work and I still can't remove it from the listing.
I'm hoping there's something I can edit somewhere that'll make Workgroup Manager "forget" this afp mount?
Any advice would be appreciated!

OK, I sorted this out.
First step is to recreate the folders and Share Points exactly as per the originals. Then, Instead of disabling auto-mount and unsharing all in one go, break it up into two steps as follow:
- disbaled auto-mount and clicked save
- unshared and clicked save
Doing it as a single step (ie. disbaled auto-mount, unshare and save) doesn't work. You need to do it in two separate steps (disable auto-mount & save + unshare & save). I don't know if this is just something weird with my install or what, but it totally solved the problem, and now the AFP ghosts are all gone.

"Phantom Remnant" - How to remove a non-existing server from Snow Leopard

I have a very strange problem that I am sure has a very simple solution, but I cannot figure it out.
Previously, my network was centered on my Time Capsule, which, due to router settings, was at 192.168.1.1. However, since moving, the address has changed, but my Mac Pro continues to look for it as a server or device.
It presents itself any time there is a network or filesystem request of any sort. So anytime I click on Finder (or PathFinder), click on a folder, file, connect to a server, etc., I get a window that pops up saying:
Connection failed
The server "192.168.1.1" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.
I cannot figure out where the Mac stores it's list of servers that it has used in the past. I have looked through all of my apps that cause this to happen, in their preferences, and I've searched for hours on Google to no avail. It does not happen when I am using a web browser, so I don't think it's looking for the server as a DNS service, but I am thinking it is looking for the Time Capsule as a disk server or something similar.
Does anyone have any ideas of where else to look? I am comfortable at any level of editing or command line usage. I have set up networking dozens of times on Linux/Windows boxes, but I've not touched the details on my Mac (never had to before ). Is there a way to "flush" the hosts SL thinks exist?
PS: My new network setup is kind of screwy, and my router to the internet is at 192.168.1.1 internally (and in /etc/resolv.conf), but it does not have a disk of any sort inside (that is accessible at least), but I still have the TC on an internal network with 10.0.1.1 as it's new address.

This may help go into the Utilities folder and lunch Keychain Access.
Make sure you click on login and make sure the category is All Items. Delete all the references to your previous network that appears on the right hand side.

The standard method for removing app icons from the Lion Launchpad is to hold the left mouse button [or old the Option / Alt key] over the app icon, wait for the cross to appear in the corner of the app icon, and then click it!
In some cases however app icons can become orphaned, for example if you use on Steam on Mac, deleting local content to uninstall a game will not remove the game icon from Launchpad. This leaves you with an unusable orphaned icon that seems invincible and does not appear in the Application folder along with the rest of your apps.
The solution is as follows…
1. Open Launchpad, find the offending icon(s) and drag them to your normal dock.
2. Right click on the icon that you dragged to your dock and choose ‘Show in Finder’.
3. Now drag the icon(s) from the Finder windows that opens up into the Trash.
4. Finally right click on the dock item(s) that you dragged originally and choose ‘Remove from dock’.
Voila, the icons have disappeared from Launchpad and the annoying orphaned icons that seemed invincible have been thwarted.

No question about that. If you can "see" Travis's device, then he can likely "see" your Time Capsule.
I'm just concerned that whomever the APExpress belongs to could be changing settings on my computer or Time Capsule that would cause the issues with me not being able to backup.
Make sure that you have a Time Capsule base station password. Unless a user has that password, they might be able to "see" your Time Capsule, but they cannot access any of the data on the Time Capsule or change the settings.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule and click Manual Setup
Then, click the Time Capsule tab below the icons to see the device name and password for your device. Make sure that you have entered the password and confirmed. Click Update if you have made any changes.
The message I get is "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
I am not sure what this error means, because I cannot duplicate it here to test.
If it were me, I would try this "fix".
