How do you remove password protection for Firmware

I was told this might help fix the problem that I can not use an install DVD to boot my Mac. It only boots from an external Firewire HD with 10.5.8. It wont boot from an internal SATA drive with 10.6.3 either. When the option key is pressed during startup the boot SATA drive shows up as EFI Boot, not the name I gave the HD. If I select the EFI Boot it still wont boot from it. Eventually, the screen says I have to restart my computer. Thanks for any ideas.

I did use Diskwarrior on that boot drive. I haven't had any problems with my hardware before and using a boot DVD. Although, my Leopard install disk is version 10.5.1, I'm sure I used it to install the system with my current hardware (NVIDIA 8800 GT). I'm up to 10.5.8 because of system software upgrades through Apple's software updates online. Any other thing I can try? Can I create a Boot DVD with the latest Leopard 10.5.8 on it? Do you think that would work or help? Figures that my extended warranty was over on May 25, 2010. I am getting another mac for my graphics business, what do you think of the new iMac 27" 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. I'm looking to hire someone in the near future. Thanks for your help!

    PDF security can only be implemented or removed using Adobe Acrobat.

    Time to dial down on the crazy and explain the reasoning behind such a drastic move.
    ICMP is part of the TCP/IP stack, you can't just pull it out like a block on top of a tower, your NIC will stop working if you try to mess with it.
    However, you can put your computer in stealth mode, which it will ignore various incoming requests.

    Not with Adobe Reader; you would need Acrobat for that.  And only if you know the PDF's update password.

  • Acrobat 8.1 and C# - How can you detect password protected PDF files?

    I am modifying our existing C# code that opens PDF files.  But when ever we hit a password protected file, we are prompted for a password.  This is an automated process, so if we detect a password protected file, we move the file to a manual processing folder to be processed later.
    We are using Acrobat 8.1 Standard.
    Our code looks like this:
    using
    System;
    using
    System.Collections.Generic;
    using
    System.Linq;
    using
    System.Text;
    using
    Acrobat;
    using
    System.IO;
    using
    Word = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word;
    using
    System.Reflection;
         AcroApp app = new AcroApp();     app.Hide();
         try
              if (app != null)          {
                   app.CloseAllDocs();
                   AcroAVDoc av = new AcroAVDoc();
                   if (av.Open(filename, "Test") == true)               {
                        AcroPDDoc doc = new AcroPDDoc();                    doc = (
    AcroPDDoc)av.GetPDDoc();
                        doc.Save((
    short)Acrobat.PDSaveFlags.PDSaveFull,
                        Utilities.GeneratePath(FileVersion.TEMP) + fi.Name.RemoveFileExtension() + ".PDF");                    doc.Close();
         catch (Exception ex)     {
              ErrorLog.LogError(filename.RemoveFileExtension(), ex);     }
         finally
              app.CloseAllDocs();
              app.Exit();
    This works great for non-password protected PDF files, but it prompts for a password if the file is password protected.  I was looking at the FileOpenEX functionality, but I can not find the reference to bring into my C# project.  It looks like it is only for C++, since I could only find C++ examples.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    There are no methods in the Acrobat SDK for C# for what you wish to accomplish.

    how do you disable the password prompt when you are moving items around on the laptop or installing items? Its so **** annoying.

    HI,
    That "password prompt" is there for your security. You can't install software updates without providing your admin password.

  • How do you remove a reminder for a new version of MacKeeper?

    This notice is a window that seems to be stuck in the upper right corner of my screen. I can't drag it off

    Remove the "MacKeeper" crapware as follows.
    Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions, nor do I intend to repeat the test.
    IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select Go ▹ Applications from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Drag it to the Trash. A dialog will pop up asking why you want to uninstall it. You don't have to provide that information. Enter anything you like in the text box, then click the Uninstall button. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. That's the only useful feature of "MacKeeper:" it deletes itself. Reboot.
    Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon from the Dock to the Trash.
    Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of material is useless, or worse than useless.
    The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
    The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.

  • How Can I Remove Password Protection From my PDF File?

    Hello,
    I have a PDF file that is protected by a password. I tried almost all free online tools to unlock the password but they don't work. I know the password but online tools are showing the error: The uploaded file does not seem to be a valid PDF file.
    Please let me know if there is any online tool or any software that can remove the password so I can share the file with others
    Thanks
    Steven

    I know the password but online tools are showing the error: The uploaded file does not seem to be a valid PDF file.
    Perhaps the file is not a .pdf file after all.
    Anyway, .pdf files are generated by Adobe Acrobat, not by Windows. Checking the FAQs at the Adobe site is probably the best way to solve your problem. I would also run this test: Create my own .pdf file, apply a password, then remove the password.

  • How do I remove password protection from a document so I can upload it to a secure site that does not accept protected documents due to their firewall?

    Please help with the questions above.

    If a website doesn't offer to store the password then chances are that it doesn't fill that password either if you use the "Saved Passwords Editor" extension. You can only use that extension in such a case as a reminder in case you forget the password.

  • How do you remove a background for PDF?

    I am a student and all my PowerPoint lectures are sent to me before they begin.  I take those lectures put them into keynote then open them in notability as a PDF.  This allows me to record the audio of the lecture and take notes directly on the slides.  However, some teachers use dark or colourful backgrounds that make annotating them a bit frustrating.  I want to remove the backgrounds in the same way I could if I selected print "With Backgrounds: off"
    Is there a way to either delete the backgrounds or print to PDF without the backgrounds?
    Thanks

    Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I do not want to print the slides, I want them in a PDF format without the background.
    Yes you said in your first post you wanted a PDF without background.
    On my mac I can select print to PDF but there is no such option on the iPad (I think?).
    What has this got to do with an iPad, you asked about producing a PDF file?
    Is there no way to remove the background without printing a hard copy?
    As I suggested,    File > Print > PDF    will produce a PDF file without the background if you select the "don't print slide backgrounds" option in the print dialogue box.
    This is a popular straight forward procedure and is easily achieved.

    Actually, there is a little trash can next to the title which I never noticed. You select it and the download goes away. Nice touch.
