How do you reset PRAM?

I have followed the instructions on Apples support doc (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238), saying the CMD-OPT-P-R startup key combo should be pressed BEFORE the grey screen appears. Have tried this several times and Leopard just loads normally, no restart and 2 chimes.
I have also tried doing it immediately after the chime, as suggested here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5587785&#5587785). No joy.
When my computer does log into Leopard though the dock and menu bar are a little slow, which makes it appear as if some caches have been cleared. Could this be a sign of PRAM being cleared?
Is there any software or terminal command that can reset the PRAM for me, coz the startup keys do not appear to work.
Thanks for your help.

I'm having major problems with graphics on my iMac (specs are at the bottom) since upgrading from Tiger 10.4.10 to Leopard (clean install). Genie effect, spaces, dock, dashboard. All stutter are laggy and far from the smoothness of Tiger. Doing anything that involves any form of animation (not even demanding, just minimizing a window with no background apps running) will send the CPU usage of the WindowServer process through the roof. Its been discussed a lot on this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1197125). Someone on this thread advised that resetting the PRAM has positive results, so thats what i'm attempting to do.
I use Onyx for cache cleaning and am happy with it. But thanks for the recommendation.
I have repaired permissions and the startup disk before attempting to reset the PRAM.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do you reset pram with an external keyboard

Hi, this is related to the keyboard and trackpad not working anymore on my 21month old MBP. I tried reinstalling osx 10.5 and no luck. Tried holding down the power button for 10seconds, got the beep but no trackpad and keyboard afterwards. The preference pane does not show up in the system pref panel anymore for the trackpad. I even downgraded to 10.4. and no luck. So question is there anyway to reset the pram with an external usb keyboard hooked up to the MBP. That is the only way that I can type right now. Or should is this a logic board issue. My video had been having issues about a week ago. The screen would stay blank and also zoom would work properly with pdfs or in CAD (it would be very pixelated at times). Any thoughts. Did the new firmware update fry my computer. Help Apple!

    Hi Bob.
You can reset pram via a external usb keyboard the same way you would normally reset pram. Apple + Option + P + R. However pram will do nothing to your situation. Sounds as like you are having much bigger issues. When you reinstalled the OS, what type of install did you do? If you did an erase and install without bringing back you data, you probably have a hardware issue.

how do you reset my ipod touch..daughter try passcode too many times now its disabled

    Passcode Locked or Disabled
If nothing else will let you unlock the device - after so many unsuccessful attempts will be locked out - You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the Device.
    Instructions can be found here.

  • How do you reset an ipad mini without knowing the password?

I have just recently changed my password, but know i have forgot the new one. How do you reset the ipad without knowing the password?

If you mean the passcode to unlock the iPad then you will need to connect it to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

  • How do you reset your autolock password?

my phone has been disabled for an hour and i recently changed my password so how do you reset it

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten password:
Restore (and reset password) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)
By the way, you posted in the Applworks (realy old software) forum.  You'll get a response from other iPhone users if you post in the iPhone forum next time.

Go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

They will be erased from the iPod along with everything else, but since those songs must have originated from a source other than the iPod, they must still exist on the computer you used to sync it.
After you restore the iPod, you just have to sync it with that same computer again.
