How do you restore a locked ipod touch

My daughter locked her ipod touch with a password before we ever created an id on it. I went to the apple store and was told to just hook up the ipod and click the restore button. when i connect the ipod to my computer, itunes does not reconize it since it is locked and i can't click the restore button. can anybody help? i can't find anything on the apple website that helps.

Here's the process you need to follow:
Plug the iPod into your computer.
Open iTunes if ot doesn't automatically open.
Press and hold down both the Home and the Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time.
Count to eight (8) seconds.
When you reach 8 seconds, the screen will go black. At that instant, let go of the Sleep/Wake button while still holding down the Home button.
Keep hilding the Home button down until a window pops up on the screen that says something like "An iPod in recovery mode has been detected. You must restore the iPod."
Click OK, and click the Restore button in the iPod Summary window.
If this doesnt work the first time, try it again. It may take several attempts to get the iPod into recovery mode.

Connect your iPod to the computer that you used last to sync it.
When the iPod appears in the iTunes sidebar, click it.
Then click the "Restore" button.
When prompted, choose "Restore From Last Sync".
The iPod should take a while to restore.
When you turn your iPod on, it should not be diabled anymore.
*Note: If this does not work, revisit Step 4. Then, instead of choosing "Restore From Last Sync", choose "Set Up As New iPod". BUT CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED: THIS WILL DELETE ALL OF YOUR DATA INCLUDING MUSIC, VIDEOS, APPS, AND MORE!
