How do you restore your old iphone 4 contacts to your new iphone 4?

I recently brought my old iphone 4 to the apple store for hardware repair and they simply gave me a new one. I backed up my old iphone4 settings into itunes but when I plugged in my new iphone 4 into itunes, it asked me to register a new phone. Are my contacts forever lost? Was there not suppose to be a restore from backup option?

iTunes allows 5 devices to store and sync.  How do you deactivate an old device to add a new device

    Not true at all.
You can sync as many devices to one library as you like.
You can only authorize 5 computers to your itunes account.  This has nothing to do with ipod/iphone/ipad/Apple tv

I lost my iPhone. If I wipe the device will I be able to restore my old iCloud backups to my new iPhone when I get it?

Yes.  It will only erase the phone, not any data or backups from icloud.com.  If you think it was stolen, you might want to read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5668.

  • How can you delete an old apple id from your phone

Although I have a new Apple ID, the old one keeps prompting for a password.  How can I delete the old one?

    Hi clairebrisvegas,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
Your Apple ID is used for several services through your iPhone. To replace the previous Apple ID you will need to sign out of it in a few different spots and sign in with the current Apple ID (depending on what Apple ID you choose to use for each individual service). The services you may need to sign out of old Apple ID and into new one could include iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. You can see what Apple ID is currently signed in and sign out of it in the following areas: Settings > iCloud, Settings > Messages, Settings > FaceTime, and Settings > iTunes & App Store. The following article is a good resource that explains this process.

  • How do you remove an old device name from your iTunes account?

I have several old device names/backups on my iTunes that I want to remove.  They were from old iPhones that we've turned into iPod's for my kids which we needed to create a new device name for them.  So now when I restore a device, I have a list of about 10 different names to choose from.
How can I erase the old names/backups that we no longer use?  I still have 3 on there that I want to keep though so I don't want to erase all of them.

    iTunes Prefs > Devices.
Selec a backup and delete it there.

  • How do I get my old SMS messages onto my new iphone?

I upgraded to a new 4S. Restored from back up, but this didn't load the old SMS mssgs from the previous 3GS phone. Many of which were work related and probably worth keeping. How do I get these onto my new 4S?
    Thanks

The only way to get them on your phone is to restore your new phone from the most recent backup of your old phone. Is that what you did?

  • How do i restore my old phones Backup on my new phone

I just had my phone replaced and cannot figure out how to restore all my information that is (or atleast should be) on backup on my computer?

When you connect your new phone, itunes running, Right-click (or Control-click) your phone in the device pane, and choose Restore from Backup. Follow this by syncing your itunes content back to your phone. The only things that won't ne restored are passwords for wifi & email. These are not restored for security reasons.

  • My laptop got stolen. How do I restore my old bookmarks on my brand new laptop ?

I used the Sync feature on my previous (stolen) laptop. And I had a lot of important links and bookmarks on it. I am hoping with Sync on the new laptop I have bought I'll be able to restore it all. Is there any way this can be done ?
Since I don't have the main (original) Sync'd laptop with me how do I add this new laptop to my Mozzila Sync account ? It is possible that the thief formatted the hard-disc. In that case I might anyway lose the Sync data if it got updated after formatting... In any case, I must try and add this new laptop to my a/c.

If that stolen computer would be formatted, I doubt if the thief or whoever would do the formatting would have the wherewithal to save your Sync user name, your Sync password, and the Sync key before they did the reformat - and without those three things no one can access your Sync account to be able to "update" or wipe your data from the Sync server.
See this support article to learn how to add the new laptop to your Sync account: <br />
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-a-device-to-firefox-sync#w_add-another-computer
You will need your Sync user name ''(email address)'', your Sync password, and the Sync Key (aka Recovery Key) that was generated when you first setup your Sync Account. If you don't have those three items, you won't be able to recover your data from the Sync server.

  • How do you transfer an old iTunes Library to a new one?

I just got a new MacBook for Christmas and I'm trying to sync my old iTunes Library from my PC to the new iTunes on my MacBook. I've tried the Home Sharing and I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if it's just not working...if someone could give me a step-by-step that works, that'd be great.
**I already have the songs I've purchased from iTunes in the new library, I just need the songs I've colleced from CDs and other various sources. And since I have the MacBook with Retina Display, there's no disc drive, so that's another problem I'm facing.***
    Thank you!

  • HT1414 How do you restore an old backup? The new one with the stuff I didn't need was backed up and overwrote my old one.

Pages wasn't working so someone told me to delete it and redownload it. Of course, our school told us not to use Cloud since there wasn't much space and now I lost most of my notes. I think I backed it up before I deleted it though but when I reconnected by iPad, it rebacked up everything and I don't know how to restore from previous backups. Help please!

You may not have any previous backups if iTunes overwrote the only backup that you have.
Launch iTunes on your computer (do not connect the iPad yet) and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Check the box at the bottom that says - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. You can also see if you have multiple backups for the iPad in that window. If you do - Click OK and quit iTunes. If you don't have another backup, just turn on auto sync again. There is nothing that that you can do if you don't have another backup.
Assuming that you did have another backup - connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Right click on the iPad name under devices and select - Restore from Backup. If you have multiple backups, you can select the one that you want from the drop down menu in the pop up window.

  • HT2731 How can I restore my old itunes account on my new computer?

Our old computer crashed and we now have a new one.  Am I able to find all of my itunes songs and get them on this computer if I never backed them up?

Yep. If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, you should be able to retrieve most, those that are available at least, of your purchases. Check this article on how to download past purchases and all other articles related:

  • How do I restore from old hard drive to a new iMac ?

The logic board in my mid 2008 iMac 24" has failed just 3 months out of AppleCare. To replace this will cost me HK$ 6500. I was going to buy a new mac anyway, just waiting for the next refresh model to come out.  So a new 27" i7 with highest spec and SSD and 2TB hard drive with AppleCare will cost me HK$ 24k. No brainer to just buy a new iMac rather than spend 25% of the cost to repair a 3+ year old iMac.
The hard drive is working ok so the repair centre said they will remove the hard drive for me and suggested I buy an enclosure for it , put the old drive in the enclosure and then transfer the program's, settings and files to the new IMac.
What is the best way to do this ?  I obviously cannot boot up the old drive. Can I connect this drive  to the new iMac and then use setup assistant to move settings and program's to the SSD on the new iMac , then use migration assistant to move the remainder of the files ( documents folder, iPhoto etc) to the hard drive on the new iMac ?
If not then any suggestions ?

Do as the repair center suggests and place the old drive in an enclosure then connect it to the new Mac.
When you first start new Mac run Setup Assistant and tell it to restore from the external drive.
It worked for me and should work for you.

  • Using RMAN, how do you restore from an old backup file?

    HI,
I use Oracle 9i on Solaris.
I'm currently doing incremental level 0 hot backups every night using RMAN in NOCATALOG mode. The controlfile is backed up with the database. I back it up to a file (e.g. "level0_20041225.dmp"). After I back it up, it's backed up to tape using Veritas. Before doing a backup, I delete the old one first.
I need to restore a copy of the database backup that was taken a month ago. This file is on tape. How do I go about it using RMAN? The documentation is not too clear as it talks more about Restoring the control file and the latest copy of the database.
How do you restore an old copy of the database from a database file?
    Pls advise
    Thanks

You can recover to the last committed transaction,
provided you have the current controlfile, archived
logs since the backup and the current online logs.
Here's the procedure in a nutshell:
    a) Restore datafiles from tape.
    b) Recover database using restored files + current
controlfiles and archived/online logs. RMAN will prompt
you for the logs it needs for recovery.
You can also perform this type of recovery using a
backup controlfile. In this case you would still need
all logs as above. After recovery, you would have to
open the database with RESETLOGS because you are using
    a backup controlfile.
If you don't want/need to recover up to the last
committed transaction, you use a backup controlfile and
perform incomplete recovery (time or change based). This
simply means that you stop the application of redo at
the time or SCN of your choice.
Most of the scenarios of interest are documented in
    the following book:
