How do you rotate pictures?

I'm trying to figure out how to rotate pictures using the new rotate function in iOS4, but it's missing from my menus. See the screen shot at CNET - http://mcall.com.com/2300-6452_7-10003086-13.html?s=0&o=10003086
How do I rotate?
Edit: I originally asked about resizing as well, but I found out that you can only resize photos from the camera roll, not albums. I still haven't figured out how to rotate as it doesn't work for camera roll or albums.

I have the same issue, bur. But I don't have the option to Send the photo using MMS, Mobile Me and the Resize option.
The only options that I have is: email, to assign as a wallpaper and to assign to a contact...

  • How do you rotate picture in picture

I have a picture in picture and I would like to rotate the top video.  I  have figured out how to rotate it 90 degrees, but I don't want it  straight up and down.  I would like to rotate it like 45 degrees, so  that it is at a different angle than the background video.  Is there a  way to do this?  Or will it only rotate in increments of 90 degrees?  (I posted this in the wrong section before, so I hope this is the right place now.)

Here is my reply to this question, when asked in the Tips & Tricks sub-forum. If anyone has any comments on my method, or a better method, please add them.
    Welcoome to the forum.
Unfortunately, you have posted to the Tips & Tricks forum, which is a repository for articles on how to do things in PrE and PrPro, and few will see your post here. Hopefully our tireless MOD, Steve Grisetti, will move the post out to the main forum.
As for Rotation, one of the fixed Motion Effects, like Scale and Position, you can first use the numerical box (to the far right in the Effects>Edit Effects (Effects Control Panel) and either click then type in a value, or click-scrub to change the value. This will be static for your PiP Clip.
If you wish to Rotate over time, you will want to Keyframe the Rotation Effect, and Rotate Right, or Rotate Left can be chosen. First, opposite Motion, click on the "stopwatch" icon, and you will then see stopwatches appear for all of the fixed Effects. In Rotation, first locate the CTI (Current Time Indicator w/ the red edit line) on the first Frame of your Clip. Click on the stopwatch besides Rotation to add the first Keyframe. Now, move to the last Frame (hitting PageDn, then one cursoe back arrow on the keyboard, will do that for you), and hit the Add Keyframe button on the far right of the Rotation line - looks like a yen-yang diamond, and adjust that Keyframe's value. Note: if you want multiple Rotations, beyond 360 degrees, that is possible, and you will see first a 1, then a 2 (for 2 revolutions).
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt
PS - Steve Grisetti has several great articles on Basic Keyframing on Muvipix.com, plus he's got several wonderful books on PrE, available there. Note: Muvipix, com is a multi-tier Web site, with the forum and some content available just for the free sign-up. Some of the material is available for purchase, or is all free with a subscription. It does not take many paid downloads, before one could have paid for a subscription.

  • How do you rotate picture-in-picture from landscape to portoirt?

I'm trying to create a video that will have a PiP show up however, I have pictures that are portoirt (vertical) that I would like to use. Is there anyway to rotate the PiP box so that I can use these pictures?

You make some good points regarding the use of Ken Burns. While the Picture in Picture will always be presented in landscape form, by using Ken Burns to pan vertically (up or down) on the portrait photo, it is possible to cover the full image.
For example, you could start panning on the lower third and move up to the upper third of the photo, therefore revealing most of the image within the constraints of the Picture in Picture landscape frame. So, the PIP appears as a landscape image, with the vertical panning then gradually revealing the full portrait image - bit by bit.
I think this is what you are referring to SunshineLollipops.

Drat it all ... Sorry, that's Videos I gave you instructions for, not pictures.
Pictures, I don't think you need Pro for.
Right-click the image file you want to rotate. Select "Open with > PictureViewer" or "Open with > Choose Program" and select PictureViewer from the list.
In PictureViewer, go "Image > Rotate Left" or "Image > Rotate right".
Once you've got it rotated, go "File > Export" and choose a filename and filetype. Then save the rotated version.

  • How do you rotate a "picture within a picture" at a custom degree level?

I want to rotate an image I'm inserting in a video clip 3 degrees. However, I need to do so when I'm in imovie. Does anyone know how to custom rotate pictures/videos in Imovie? Or at least tell me where I can download an app that can.

    short answer: No.
Use any paint-processor (Pixelmator, Photoshop/elements, Gimp, ...) and rotate your image BEFORE inserting into iMovie.
'free' rotating of images and videos is a privilege, the Big Toys only offer (FinalCut/express et al)

How do you rotate a photo that is sideways in the photo library on the iPad? I have found no solution in the user manual or anywhere else. I simply want to rotate the picture from being sideways to being upright. Doesn't seem like this should be such a mystery. Or am I missing something obvious? Thx

Thanks folks, I see there are photo editor apps for the iPad. I am downloading one now, and it should work. Good to know I wasn't missing something in the iPad itself. It does not have the capability to rotate or edit pictures without outside help. Thx

How do I rotate pictures in ipad albums?  The icon they show in the user instructions does not appear on my ipad.

You need a third party app to rotate the photos. The ability to do that directly within in the photos app does not exist in iOS 4. It is supposed to be one of the new features of the iOS 5 coming sometime soon.
You and download a free photo editing app called PhotoPad by ZAGG in the app store. You can use this app to rotate, crop, etc and then resave the photos after you change them.

  • Imported photos end up sideways - how do you rotate within iphone?

SYnching photos from Picasa/Google, all the photos are correct in their orientation but when they come into iPhone, many get turned sideways. How do you rotate them back? (Of course if you turn the phone, the photo's orientation changes as well). Help - thanks!

I apologize if I have hijacked the thread or if it seems that I have attempted to derail it in any way.
My issue is "when they come into iPhone" and appears to be the same issue that kekman is having. I have a large number of photos on my iPhone, with about half of them being in portrait orientation.
On the Macintosh platform, I can copy the photos off of the phone, put them in albums in iPhoto (which is not performing any actual rotation of the image other than for display), and sync the albums back to the phone with the pictures retaining their portrait or landscape orientation as they did in the camera roll.
On Windows, I copy the photos off the iPhone (either Picasa, Camera wizard, and I've even copied via ssh/scp), put them in folders (without editing the photos in any way), and sync the "albums" back to the phone using iTunes, but this time all photos show up as landscape.
I can't imagine that this was the intended behavior. Why have the iPhone store the orientation (which clearly both it and iPhoto are using to display it properly) if you're just going to ignore it when you sync albums? I really can't understand at all why iTunes would strip the EXIF data that the iPhone itself puts in the JPEG, from both a user and a developer standpoint. I shouldn't have to modify the photos just to get them to display properly as they did before I took them off the phone.
I guess I'm just frustrated that I can't take photos out of my camera roll using my PC and still have them display properly when I sync them back as albums. So I'm currently keeping them all on the phone in the camera roll and it's getting very cluttered.
It's irritating when you're trying to show off the nice expensive piece of kit to your coworkers and they keep asking why it insists on showing your pictures sideways and you have nothing to say other than "it's a bug" :-/
Ok, so now I've really hijacked this thread. I'll just leave it at that and hope for a fix from Apple (do the devs even read this?). Is there some kind of Apple bug reporting/tracking system similar to bugzilla, etc.?

Pictures can appear in any number of albums.
To move from one album to another, add the picture to the new album and then right click on the picture, select Remove from album and then select the album you want to remove it from.
If you need further help, please let us know which version of Photoshop Elements you are using and which operating system you are running on.

How do you take pictures from one library and put in another library??

    Options:
    1. Export from iPhoto A to the Finder, then import to iPhoto B
This gets the photo over, but no versions, no edit history and not all the metadata
    2. Use iPhoto Library Manager
This gets everything: versions, edit history and all the metadata.

It's not a good idea to create multiple catalogs. For one thing, this defeats the purpose of the Organizer as a way to search for and find your photos; the search can only operate within a single catalog. Also, there are no functions in PSE that work across multiple catalogs. And even though you can "manually" combine the catalogs if you so desire, you lose information such as collection/album membership, stacks, version sets, creations and a few other things.
