How do you save an iMovie video to DVD

How do I save a movie in iMovie on my daughter's iPad and then turn it into a DVD or a file she can share at school with her teachers?

There are two different iMovies. there's the app you can download to your iPad and there's the program that would run on your mac. Given that most apps are skinnied down versions of their original programs it's very likely that while the computer program iMovie has DVD output, the App version does not. (all the iPad's file management is based around using the internet to access and transfer files)
And since they both have the same name, it can be very easy to get them confused or read about one and think it applies to the other.
iMovie for iOS
There is a part of the forum for iMovie on your iPad
iMovie for Mac
And here's the part for iMovie for Mac.
There should be more specific assistance there.
If you don't have a mac or iMovie on your computer most CD/DVD burning programs have an ability to convert and burn files onto a DVD, either as data or as a video disc viewable in a DVD player. Roxio is one example or such software.

how do you save an imovie as a windows file?

You first have to format the External drive as Mac OS Extended. This can be done with Disk Utility which is located in the Utilities Folder inside the Applications Folder. Once formatted as a native Mac OS drive, iMovie will allow you to 'turn on' the visibility of the external drive. Make sure to make the hard drive visible in the Events Library by going to the View Menu > Group Events by Disk. In the Projects Folder you should also see the same drive.
Drag your Project folders to the external drive icon in the Project Library. Also drag your Event Folders to the external drive (but make sure to drag it to the icon that is visible in the Event Library, don't drag it to the Project Library drive icon).
This dragging operation will 'duplicate' your Project Folders and Event Folders on the external drive. So to make space on your internal drive, always delete the original folders AFTER you make copies of them on the External drive. In the future when you are importing video into a New Event, make sure to choose the external drive as the location for the the New Event folder. Similalrly create a new Project Folder in the external drive location in the Project Library.
iMovie doesn't have save menu, it auto-saves in the background continuously as you work on the Project. That way you don't lose any work by forgetting to save the project.

  • How do you share an iMovie project to DVD now that iDVD not available

How do you share an iMovie project to DVD now that IDVD not available on iMAC? Thanks.

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and Blu-Ray but without the nice themes.

  • IMovie crashed, lost project. How do you SAVE in iMovie? Where's the file?

Just spent 4-5 hours building a complicated movie from a year's worth of footage. At some point, iMovie crashed. I think I lost all those hours of creative decision making, since I cannot see the file when I reopen iMovie.
There is no "open" command in the file menu. There is no "save" command in the file menu.
This would imply that Apple was autosaving for me to save me trouble. Hmm. I can save in almost every program I use, and revert, and save versions.
How do you save a project in iMovie? I don't see save in the file menu, as has been the steadfast tradition of Apple applications since I purchased my first Mac in 1984. What in the blazes have you done with SAVE? It is so basic.
Along the same line, where is the project file located on my hard drive? I would like to open it. Since I assume you have been autosaving to somewhere, could you please let me know where my file is saved.
    <Edited by Host>

This just appeared to happen to me too.  I tried clicking on the file in Movies/iMovie Projects.  That didn't work.
Then, I made a copy of the  file in a safe place.  I noticed it was 2.2 MB, so something had to be in there.  Next, I started iMovie and clicked the Project Library arrow.  The project was listed there.  I opened it and got back most but not all of the work.  It lost a lot of my audio changes.  Here's the thing.  I worked until about midnight, and then left iMovie up and running til noon.  You would think it would have autosaved the changes by the time I came back.  I suggest making your own copy of the file now and then, just in case.

  • How do I save an iMovie onto a dvd?

I am trying to save an imovie onto a dvd to play at a later date. I have tried Burn and it doesn't let me highlight the project in imovies and ilife or idvd is not for sale in the app store. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You need to export the movie first before it can be used in a DVD authoring program (such as Burn or iDVD).
With your project open go to iMovie's menu and select File > Share > File. This will produce a file in H.264 format which will be suitable for burning and for playback on DVD players.
I'm assuming that you are using iMovie 10 (the latest 2013 version). If not, a similar method applies to iMovie '11 and earlier versions. Please post back if you need further instructions about this.

  • Help how do you save a still frame of video  as a photo?

Help how do you save a still frame of video as a photo? Thanks

A still frame from an Event:
Put cursor at the frame you want, then right click (or command click) and select "Add Still Frame to Project".
The still frame will be added at the end of the Project.
A still frame from a Project:
Put cursor at the frame you want then right-click (or control-click) and select "Add Freeze Frame". The Freeze frame will be added after the clip.
    In both cases:
Select the still frame (so the yellow band is around it).
Right-click (or control-click) and select "Reveal in Finder".
You will see a JPG file highlighted in the finder.
Drag this file and drop it on your iPhoto icon in the Dock.

  • How can you get your iPhone videos to compress to one video instead of 5 different frames?

How can you get your iPhone videos to compree to one video instead of different frames

It sounds like you to 5 separate videos. If you start recording, then stop it, then start it again, you will have 2 videos. Not 1. As for splicing them together, you will need a video editing package for your PC. I don't know if Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they're calling it now) can handle this or not. On a Mac, I'd say just use iMovie.

  • How can I save my iMovie Project to a DVD or Flash Drive which can be played on a PC and any DVD player

I have an iMac, purchased in January 2011. How can I save an iMovie project to a DVD or Flash Drive which can be played on a PC or any DVD player

I will give you a basic primer, not going to get to in depth, as far as parameters, size of project, or the storage size of your usb flash drive, etc.
    1. you have your finished iMovie project. Under iMovie>Share menu. Choose export using quicktime.
    2. make Movie self contained. This way your Mov, Mvi, etc files will be part of the movie and it can play without having to reference the events, because it is actually there.
    3. so, now on your desktop  ( or any where else set up quicktime to save your file) you will see a quicktime file.
Drag & Drop that file on to the icon of your USB Flash Drive, etc.
    4. Details that I omitted because I admit I am not well versed. Most Likely that quicktime file is larger than your USB Flash Drive. You have to use one of quicktime compression work flows, also if you open the just created quicktime file. It will open quicktime player and under the File>Export you have to options. I have a Movie that was 42GB 1080P, I exported it as a 720P, so it would still be playable on a large screen and now the new file was less than 2.5GB.
    5. Oh, no i just realized that the file should be playable on a PC, as long as the PC has quicktime for windows installled and you left that USB formated at MS DOS as it came originally, or a PC will not recognize it. Will it open up on your Blu-Ray Player that has a USB port, not sure. Since there is no menu. but, perhaps just pushing play will start movie.
Hope this is of some help.

  • How do you imort a .vob video format into I photo or I movie?

How do you imort a .vob video format into I photo or I movie? I tsays it is not a readable format. can that be changed?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How do i copy The iMovie video from Mac, to iPad mini?

How do i copy The iMovie video from Mac, to iPad mini?

The easiest way is to firstly export the movie to iTunes (Share > iTunes), then sync the iPad Mini with iTunes. In iTunes, include your movie as an item to be synced. After syncing, on the iPad it will appear in the Videos app. That's how I do it for my wife's Mini.
If you need help with exporting or with syncing to iTunes, please post back.
I'm caught up with something else at the moment, otherwise I'd give you full instructions now (just wanted to get this to you quickly).
