How do you script ID in "quiet mode"

When I do alot of changes (say add a range of pages to a document in a book)
InDeign runs very slowly as it updates the screen and brings up status and progress dialog boxes as each page is added.
Is there a way to programmatically turn off screen updates when InDesign is running  a section of script?

Hi Kas.
I gave that a try.  It does not have an effect with my scenario.
The Updating Page & Section Numbers dialog still comes up with a progress bar as it opens, updates and saves each document in my book.

  • So far so good. But then, how do you return to the viewing mode while preserving the corrected photos. There is no way out such as a button " done " like the one present in mi iMac.

    In my ipad, looking at photos with red eyes I enter edit mode, red eye tool, correct and then what? How do I return to the viewing mode while preserving the corrected photos. There is no way out such as a button " done " like the one present in my iMac. Any solution ?

  • How do you run in 64 bit mode?

    Is it just the case of pointing JAVA_HOME to the 64-bit bin/ folder?
    Or
    Just add the -d64 parameter when calling java from the main bin/ folder

    Sorry! I know how to install and what system. I have T1000 Sparc and I have Java properly installed.
    First I ianstall the standard Solris JDK package and then I install the sparcv9 package.
    running java -version straight from the console produces...
    java version "1.6.0_11"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode)
    running [path to jre]/sparcv9/java -version produces
    java version "1.6.0_11"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode)
    What I was wondering...
    When a 3rd party application or even my own need to call java need to set the JAVA_HOME variable in there scripts. Should I point their script to the main bin/ folder or should I point the scripts to the 64 bit bin/ folder?
    Or should I just pass the -d64 argument and then voila 64bit running?

  • How do you turn off power saving mode on a Officejet 6000

    I have 5 Officejet 6000 printer contected by using the ethernet port. They print fine when not in power saving mode. When they go into power saving mode and a print job is sent to them, they do not print. You have to power off and on the printer for the job to print. I need to turn off the power saving mode on these printers. Computers sending print jobs are XP and Window 7.

    I am not aware of a way to turn that feature off completely since it does not have a front panel.
    However, I suspect largely that the issue is with DHCP IP (automatic) settings.  Printers in general, with some routers, have issues with DHCP and standby where they no longer communicate using DHCP information.
    I recommend setting static IP addresses for any printer on a network as it prevents most network issues with printers from occuring.
    Print a network configuration page by holding the network button for 3 seconds and then releasing it.  A printout should be printed with the printers IP address.
    Once that is done, enter that IP address into the browser on a computer as if you were going to a site.  Once that is entered, go to that site and the printer status page should be loaded.
    There should be a Network option at the top.  Select that option.
    On this page, somewhere on the left, there should be an IPv4 option in a wired section.  Select this and it will give the option for automatic or manual IP setup.
    Select Manual IP setup.  Enter The IP address and subnet mask from the printout.  You can enter the gateway and the DNS servers, but they aren't really used since this printer does not have any web functions.
    Click apply and you should get a success message.
    At this point, the printer should have a static IP address and the issue of it not responding after entering standby should no longer be present.
    PrintDoc's post has similar steps for a wireless version of the same printer.  The only step that would really be different is choosing Wired instead of Wireless on the setup page.

  • How do you script guidelines onto a document

    I'm new to this, but I've gone through the reference manual and scripting guide and cannot find the method that places guidelines. The description of the guideline properties is there, but I can't find the method.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Here is a function you can use to place guides. It can be used like any function and does not need to be loaded as a action.
    function setGuide(pxOffest, orientation){
    var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
    var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
    desc1.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( "Pstn" ), charIDToTypeID( "#Pxl" ), pxOffest );
    desc1.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID( "Ornt" ), charIDToTypeID( "Ornt" ), charIDToTypeID( orientation ) );// "Vrtc" or "Hrzn"
    desc.putObject( charIDToTypeID( "Nw " ), charIDToTypeID( "Gd " ), desc1 );
    executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "Mk " ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
    setGuide(150, "Vrtc");

  • Equium - How to set quiet mode for CD drive?

    Hi I've got Toshiba notebook Equium series and recently I had to reinstall my Windows Vista.
    And now my CD-ROM is very noisy when read data from CD and the whole notebook is shaking.
    I remember that when I both it there was some option to put it in quite mode.
    I've download some firmware from this site but it was for different CD-ROM.
    So I'll be very grateful if some one tells me how to make it quite again.
    The CD-ROM is MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-850S

    Hi!
    I dont know which notebook you have but on the Toshiba European website you can download the Acoustic Silencer.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
    On my Satellite L300 I use the Acoustic Silencer and I like it. If I watch a DVD or listen music from CD I set the quiet mode.

  • How do you make the layer mode take effect with no background in Elements?

    I have a picture of water splashing over a black background (like this:
    although this isn't the exact one). By turning the blending mode to "screen", I get the effect I want: it basically looks like the water is splashing over my image. The thing is, I need to save it as a .png file with part of the water "dripping" off the edge of my photo onto a transparent background (background must be transparent). The problem I have is as soon as the image hits the transparent background, the black comes back.
    I need a way to either remove all the black from the photo or, more ideally, find a way to make the image I see in "normal" blending mode the same as the image I see in "screen" mode. Any ideas? (I have Photoshop Elements 7.0, btw)
    Thanks!

    I don't understand how you're using "screen" blending mode on a single image, but is this the effect you're trying to get (I used a blue colour to show the transparent area at the bottom of the image):
    I used the free KillWhite plug-in (http://mikes3d.com/extra/scripting-plugins/killwhite/) with your image:
    Converted the image to RGB.  (Image...Mode...RGB Color)
    Duplicated the background layer (Ctrl+J).
    Inverted the colours on that duplicated layer (Ctrl+I), so that the black background becomes white.
    Used KillWhite to...well...kill the white on that layer.
    Inverted the colours again.
    Used Enhance...Lighting...Brightness/Contrast as well as Levels to darken the water splash.
    Added my flower image below the water splash layer and raised the bottom edge of the flower image to leave a transparent area.
    My layers wound up looking like this:

    How do you remove a web site from popular list?
    If you mean from the Safari menubar item "Popular"
    Choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmark menu in the main menubar, or click the icon for that in Safari's menubar -
    The page that opens should show a list of Bookmarks. In the Left column, click the item under Collections named Bookmarks Bar.
    In the new view, locate the folder named Popular and click the reveal triagle to the left of its name - it will open and reveal all the items listed in Popular.
    Find the one you want to remove, click it once to select it, then press the Delete key on the keyboard.
