Hello ... and thanks for your response.   But I have discovered a couple problems. And I am sure it is "operator error"
I used your method #1. The first window that popped up stated that it was making a temporary copy of the catalog. This took about 20 minutes.
Next, the window showed thumbnail photos on the right and a list of folders in my catalog on the left. The catalog contains folders stored on my LapTop, as well as my external hard drive.
There appeared to be a distinctive difference between those photo folders stored on the external hard drive and those on my LapTop.   The folders on the external drive were named as I have all my folders named: Date_CustomName. The folders stored on my LapTop were named as: Lightroom_5 Backup_Date_CustomName or some such combination and my memory is foggy on the actual use of underscore, slash marks, dashes, etc.
I searched the list closely, and the Folders without a reference to "Lightroom Backup" were not showing.
So as a test, I "added" to the new Catalog one folder from the external hard drive and two from the LapTop.   After the transfer, the new Catalog had accurately named my external hard drive and the folder within in and the photos and their edits transferred accurately.   The other two folders were not named but listed shown in the library module as grey boxes as images with indications of editing. But when I clicked on it, there was a notation that popped up that the file could not be found.
Any ideas?
I am going to create a second new catalog and try your option #2 now.

Being that the Brightside is a basic phone, it might not be capable of responding to a group. The option does seem to be there, though - pg. 48 of the user manual:
While viewing a message touch to display available options:
• Reply w. Copy: Reply to the sender, plus other recipients if desired,
and include a copy of the original message.
Using the "More" option, you can apparently add recipients, or reply to more than one.

You are in the iPad forum.
Open your Applications folder - find Safari in the applications, and double click on the icon in there. You may have a corrupt alias in the dock at the bottom.

And you set up your own new ID and account but can NOT access the updates, from the App store for the many apps that you already have, because they require that you sign in with that former now inaccessible ID and account and password? Call it a problem of modern times and changing relationships, if you want to be charitable.

So I guess it will only be new apps that I download that are allowed to give me their updates while 13 updates wait for me on an ID I can no longer access.

The only way I have seen is to have each device use a if fervent email account, if they all are on the same email the FaceTime connection is either to a phone number or to an email address. If they ar all on the same email, it is up to the user to decide which to use.

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.

As long as the app remains in the store then you can re-download it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app, or via the Purchased Link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
Similarly ibooks can be re-downloaded, and depending upon what country that you are in then music, films and tv shows may also be re-downloadable (if they remain available in the store).

when in firefox my track pad doesn't always respond when I want to use fingers to scroll up or down in the screen...any thoughts?

it is possible that zoom maybe enabled i think double taping with three fingers should disable it.
or you can go into settings>general> assessability> zoom and turn it off.

Step 1 - copy the relevant folders to your external drive.
For iTunes, that would be yourusername/Music/iTunes (and everything underneath it, exactly as is).
For iPhoto that would be yourusername/Pictures/iPhoto Library
Step 2 - next time you start iTunes (and iPhoto) hold down the Option key while you click the application icon. You will get a question box that will allow you to point iTunes (and iPhoto) to the new location on your external drive.
Step 3 - after verifying that everything is working correctly with the libraries on your external drive, delete them from your internal drive. Be sure to empty the trash.
As always, it is best practice to always have a backup copy of your data ... just in case something goes wrong.

First thing is I want to complain about this person here:  I had some questions on a product and called up and got Charly 1-20295539207. He was horribly incompetent. He took 30 minutes just to, "get my information" which only consisted of just email and name. How can it take 30 minutes for that????? But trust me, Charlie absolutely makes it easy to waste that much time and still not get an answer to your question. So after he spent 30 minutes gathering my, "info" (i.e. name and email) he told me he could not help me and to call back even though I told him 3 times up-front what I was calling about. All of the Sony reps are the absolute worst and they all have the same idiosyncracies, making you repeat your issue over and over and over and over being one of them. Then, after you tell them what the issue is - 4-5 times, they say, "How can I help you"????????? WHAT???? I JUST TOLD YOU 4-5 TIMES AND THEN THEY ASK SOME OBNOXIOUS AGGRAVATING QUESTION LIKE THAT?   You have to be kidding me? I am not making any of this up. It's absolutely abusurd and criminal how the sony reps are. So I asked him, IF YOU COULDN'T HELP ME WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT AT THE START AND WHY DID YOU WASTE 30 MINUTES OF MY TIME FOR NOTHING GATHERING, "ALL" OF MY INFO????? HE SAT THERE IN SILENCE AND SAID NOTHING. that is the other thing these aweful reps do. Thay all do it. They sit in silence and say nothing. THEN you have to ask them over and over and over again the same question and they never will give you an answer but will then say, "HOW MAY I HELP YOU"!!!!!! It's insane what they put customers through. It's like talking to low iq people.
