How do you select an object that is directly under another object?
I was working from a template and I wanted to make a text box the same size as a column box that was put there in order to keep the text in the confines of the paper that is was being printed to.
I could actually put text in each column fine but I wanted it to be in a text box so that I could slightly tilt the test box to compensate for my printer feeding it in slightly wrong. I accomplished this on another template but I could not on this one. If I was working in InDesign or something I know I could just select that layer but I'm at a loss of what to do here. How do I select a column right under a text box? I just thought of something. Once I make the text boxes the same size as the columns I think I can just delete the columns from the inspector. But that would be kind of a work around. I know you can hold down command when nothing is selected from outside the document and then highlight but this is not working. Does anyone have some tips and tricks when it comes to having control over which objects you are selecting when it comes to objects that are overlapped as well as directly over each other.

I'm not sure it's documented any where, but it's not too difficult. First, ⌘-click outside of the layout area to enter object mode then drag the cursor towards the two objects until you see the handles. Now, again ⌘-click on the top object to deselect it. You can now move the underlying object to the front to edit, delete, etc.
After typing this, it dawned on me, why not just click the top object to select it & move it to the back? I've only done the other way a bazillion times & now I think of this.

Cropping objects that go outside of another object

Lets say I have a template of a t shirt, and bits of my illustration go outside the edges of the shirt. Is there a way of deleting any part of objects that go outside the tshirt object? Something in the pathfinder options maybe? I feel like its obvious and Im missing it! Argh!Daniel,
You can always use a copy of the T shirt outline as a Clipping Path for an Object>Clipping Mask.
Otherwise, it depends on the actual artwork; in some cases you may use one of the Pathfinders.
If you have CS5, you should also be able to use Draw Inside.

I've been playing with lvoop for 4 or 5 months now, and in general I like it very much, but I've repeatedly wanted to build classes that know something about who owns them and I can't figure out how to make this happen.
The simple example I've been thinking about is imagine having a person class which contains a car class. Now say that I get an instance of a car class and I want to ask it who its owner is. In C++, I'd do this by giving the car class a pointer to the person class it belongs to. (Of course you have to worry about car objects that don't belong to anyone in which case the pointer has to point to NULL.)
I've tried copying this idea by giving the car class a data value reference to a person class, but when I dereference the reference using an in place loop and call a method on it I get data from the moment the reference was made and not the current data of the person class.

Yes, LVOOP uses value based references, and when you split the wire to write the owner you created a data copy. The function you're after requires you do use a DVR for all class functions in which case you'll get reference based OOP, which is more familiar coming from text based OOP.
It just so happens that G# uses that approach, take a look at it.

How do you select an image that is in a text box?
Hi There, I am trying to select the image which is inside of the text box. Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I cannot figure out how to do this. If I click and drag the mouse over it, I can select both the text box and the image, but I only want to select the image. Thank you so much!
Pages v5.2.2 on Mavericks, and v5.5.1 on Yosemite do not give you keyboard or pointer access to the image in a Text Box. There is no alignment or distribution control on the image either. No notion of background/foreground. The Text Box really just acts as a viewport for the image. If the image is in the correct aspect ratio, you can fill the Text Box with the image, otherwise it will clip the image.

How do you selected all text boxes in a document
Say you have 100 pages in a document and you have a threaded text box placed on pages 1 through 100. How do you selected all the text boxes at the same time? You might do this to change the size of the boxes, or lock all of the boxes, or apply an object style to all of the boxes.
Depending upon how well your document is set up though, layout adjustment might work.
If changing text box size is on your agenda, and every text box is lying exactly on guides, then layout adjustment might work.
The only way I can think of to lock all frames in a story, or to change the size of all text frames in a story, would be to write a Javascript. And, even after years of practice, I know that it'd still be faster for me to just step through the document and make the changes by hand than it would be to bang my head against Javascript for n hours before I found a good solution.

How do you select multiple messages/conversations on SMS/MMS to forward or save to memory card on Samsung Stratosphere?
My screen is cracked and I need to replace my phone and I don't see a way of selecting multiple messages or even conversations one at a time to forward them to email or to save them to a memory card. I can delete thread but can't forward it or move it. Is there a setting somewhere that will move the storage location for messages to the memory card instead of internal?
If not, any suggestions on backup apps? I have heard of Txtract to back up SMS and MMS messages, and Titanium Backup to back up everything (SMS, MMS, apps, app data...). Anyone have any experience with those, or other suggestions?

How do you find a table that doesn't have a specific word in it by using a query on the whole database?

How would i list all of my cars names in my database not showing duplicates?
I have tried, tried and tried some more to get both of these, but I guess i don't know how to query a specific word.
I also don't know how to query everything in just 1 column name.
If anyone could help with these that would be great I have been trying queries for over an hour now and no luck.

If your data model is at all reasonable, I would expect that you would just want

AND color != 'Red'but I can't see how this would relate to data stored in multiple tables.

How do you change the fields that are displayed on the email preview list after a search?
How do you modify the fields that are displayed in the mail preview list in the center column of Mac mail after you conduct a search of your email? All of a sudden the displayed fields changed on me whenever I do a search in mail. When I have not filtered my email with a search, the default field shown in bold at the top of each message's preview is the "From" field. However, when I do a search this changes to the "To" field. But why would you want this?
iTunes is responsible for the File Management, let it get on with it, you do your organisation in the iTunes window. And everything you need to do, you can do via the iTunes Window. Want to find the file of a track quickly? Right click on it in the iTunes Window and select Show File: A finder window pops open with the file already selected.

How do you select a sub-set of cells from the entire document so you can print only those specific cells?
There is no analog to MS Excels print range. So the next best thing is to plan your data so that you don't need to use print range. The next best thing after that is to select the range of cells you want to print, then copy, the switch to the application Preview, and create a new document from the clipboard (select the menu item "File > New from Clibboard") then select all, copy then paste to the destination (maybe an email) .
You can also paste that portion of the table into another table (or a new table) by pasting values only -
How do you make it so that the ipod will play all the different artists featured in an album when you click that album to play? At the moment, each artist in the album is being separated and I can't play them together. For example, to play the Halo 2 Soundtrack, Hoobastank, Breaking Benjamin, Nile Rodgers, etc. are some of the artists featured. However, in the Albums category, they are each separate choices. I want to play them all together, but can't. Is there a way to do that?
It sounds like the album metadata is incorrect, or differs from song to song in iTunes. Albums with various artists will play properly assuming all the songs are tagged with the same identical album name, as well as the track number. For the Halo 2 Soundtrack, metadata should look like this:
Song: <Song Title>
Artist: <Song Artist>
Album: Halo 2, Vol. 1 (Original Soundtrack)
Genre: Soundtrack
I had a similar problem with my imported Cowboy Bebop albums and the mixture of artists/album names. Once I adjusted the metadata, all of them play in the correct order just by selecting the Album from the available list or in Coverflow. -

How do I do this in ELYou don't. EL is very strict in method signatures. All get methods must be public Type getProperty(void); And all set methods must be public void setProperty(Type t);
So you will have to re-work your Bean so it does not need an argument to the get method (getDefaultColor()). Since you are calling another method out of car, you might re-write the getDefaultColor method as such:

I'm having the same problem. The book downloaded in iBooks on the computer, but not on the iPad. It seems to be stuck. When I try "Edit" in purchased books, I can't select the book that hasn't completely downloaded. I've tried synching manually, deselecting it, reselecting it, but nothing works. I've done a hard restart on the iPad a couple of times but I still can't get rid of it.
